Description

1000 Miles is based on a French card game. It is simple to learn and play, even for children, and is very addictive. You need to think ahead and watch your opponent's moves to maximise your score though.

The premise of the game is that you are in a car race. Each hand is either 700 or 1000 miles long, with the first player to reach 700 miles having the option to extend the race to 1000 miles.

The game uses a special deck of cards which includes distance, hazard, remedy and safety cards. Hazards are played to slow or stop your opponent's progress. Remedies are played to remove hazards applied by your opponent and safeties are used to prevent hazards.

What’s New

Version 3.6

• It will now be easier to double tap cards to play them.
• In single player mode, you and the AI will now take turns at going first at the start of each hand.
• In an earlier update, the scoring was changed so that the bonus for all four safeties was 300 instead of 700. This is now properly reflected on the score screen.
• Achievements based on scores have been adjusted downwards by 400 to reflect the above change. It should now be possible to get a perfect score!
• Various multiplayer fixes.

Decent version of Millie Bournes

Game is nice, but needs IMPROVEMENTS. You should be able to draw off the discard stack like in the real card game.
Once you’re out of cards it doesn’t reshuffle the discard stack the game is just DONE. You have to get EXACTLY 700 or 1000 - no cards to put you over that number- which I guess isn’t a huge issue but the actual game doesn’t require such strict math.
In the true game the green light isn’t needed each time after each obstacle; once it’s fixed you’re back on the road. Seems like an unnecessary extra step, especially when they are so rigid with the cards, don’t reshuffle and you can’t pull from the discard stack.
In multiplayer mode there needs to be an opponent TURN TIMER; I’ve gone into so many games with randomly matched opponents and they take 30 minutes to HOURS to take their turn if at all and I end up forfeiting just to get out of the game.
Otherwise the game is good, just wish these improvements were on the way to make it awesome.

Nice, but needs work

The current version does fix some issues, but there is still at least one obvious bug, as mentioned by another reviewer: when you play a Safety card in single-player mode, there should be an automatic Go, i.e., the top card should turn into a green light. Currently it seems to do that only when you’ve scored a coup fourré, and I’ve accidentally discarded miles cards b/c it was waiting for a Go. Also, it would be helpful if there were some indication of the number of 200-mile cards that have been played; I haven’t seen any. (On an iPhone screen there clearly isn’t enough room to display all the mileage & Safety cards that you’ve played, but a small 200-mi. counter could be squeezed in.) And although double-tapping generally simplifies and speeds up play, I’ve gotten into the habit of double-tapping cards I wish to discard, which works fine when the card is unplayable (i.e., most of the time) but I sometimes accidentally play a card I meant to discard. There doesn’t seem to be an obvious way for the program to know the player’s intent; perhaps another gesture could be added that always means “discard”. (Desktop implementations of the game have the luxury of a second mouse button for that purpose.)

One-player game does not seem random

I always play the one-player game. The other “player” gets a tremendous amount of speed limit cards. I have to hold on to at least 3 end of limit cards per hand, or I will be stuck every time. And, I rarely get an end of limit card. Plus, on the rare occasions that I get multiple red lights, the other “player” just so happens to have enough green lights.

If I get too far ahead of the other “player”, they will suddenly get 3-4 safety cards all in a row.

The game is fun, just wish it were more random.
