I ended up sending it back the next day and Amazon is in the process of shipping me another unit. The return/replace process is pretty fast/easy. Hopefully I will be successful with the next unit. 4/18/2014
Ok, I received the replacement yesterday and it works great. The reason why I couldn't use the first unit is because you have to load the CD for the mixtrack to function, even if the drivers are loaded successfully to your PC. As far as Virtual DJ is concerned it only works with the LE version or the Pro version. That's why it didn't work with my Virtual DJ Broadcaster version. Not sure about Serato or traktor as I have never used/seen either one of them before. It's very user friendly and I adapted to the Loop/cue/sample features almost immediately. I'm a veteran to sratching on technic 1200 turntables, so the scratching is going to take getting use too. I would recommend this to anyone looking to have some fun mixing "live" as the LE version does not have the record option for separating the tracks. You can record but it will be 1 big mix. But while you're in your 20 day trail version of the Pro version you can record/burn your mixes. You will need an external soundcard to use headphones for previewing. I got mine from Amazon for about $3 when I got the Numark DJ2Go unit and it works great. The only difference between this unit and the Mixtrack II Pro is that the Pro has the output and headphone slots, but the same intro version of the mixing software. And honestly its not worth the extra $100 "to me", because I just connect my line out from the PC to the amp and call it a day. 4/25/2014
You have to judge for yourself with this one. Keep in mind its only $149. It seems that some expect and $800-$900 perfomance for $149.
EDIT: I have played at a local nightclub a few times now and I ended up getting a Native Instruments Traktor Audio 2 soundcard to ensure the sound quality is up to par. With the cheapo usb soundcard I had before I was having some latency/skipping/clipping issues that the new card has fixed. Given that the Native Instruments card ran me $100 I wish I had gone with the Mixtrack 2 PRO initially so I'd have the sound capabilities built in as well as the microphone input for the same cost. Oh well, I'm still glad I got this controller because without it I never would have started playing in public.
I like that this is small enough to hold in my lap, yet big enough that I don't feel cramped. The jog wheels work great. The touch sensitivity is pretty cool for scratching, though I don't do that much. The trigger pads are plenty usable but not velocity sensitive so buy an Akai controller if you want to do finger drumming. The knobs and faders do the job just fine. If I was planning to DJ professionally I would invest in a higher quality controller, but honestly I would not feel embarrassed using this for the occasional paid gig. The selling point of this controller is the low price. This is the perfect way to get more serious about DJing without breaking the bank. If you have been mixing using your mouse and keyboard, I highly recommend picking up the Mixtrack II. It makes a world of difference to have physical knobs, buttons and jog wheels.
Also ich hätte mir eher zwei Gain-Regler gewünscht.
