Fireball: An Enemies to Lovers Romance (Bridges and Bitters Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 1,369 ratings

He hates me for some reason. I will not rest until I change his mind.

People always like me. It's kind of my thing. All the employees at my tech startup think I'm the best boss, and the community partners and investors I woo not only trust, but adore me.

Everyone likes me, except him.

I may have been caught off guard when I accidentally insulted AJ Trachtenberg, but I'm pulling out all the stops trying to make it up to him…and it’s not working. Offering his students a swanky field trip doesn't win him over—it only seems to make him grumpier.

Unfortunately, grumpy looks very good on him. AJ is tall, dark, and annoyingly handsome and he’s got a giant chip on his shoulder. Honestly, his smoldering is distracting.

I can’t afford any distractions right now, not with the media hounding me as I try to take my company public. Maybe I can swing a one-time naked distraction, though. That doesn’t have to mean anything, right? I'm not looking for a happily-ever-after here. I'm just trying to get him out of my head.

Alas, when it comes to business and bossy men, I have trouble letting go.

Fireball is the laugh-out-loud first stand-alone installment of the Bridges and Bitters series. If you love found family, hilarious antics, and off-the-charts heat, you'll devour these sexy romantic comedies.

We got enemies-to-lovers, grumpy & sunshine, an inclusive and diverse cast of characters and omfg, no jokes, some of the best spice scenes. But let me get back on track...In Fireball, our FMC is a data-nerd and CEO of a tech start-up on the brink of going public. She meets our (somewhat frustrating) love interest when he attends a session at her company while representing the public school he teaches science at. They have a misunderstanding - and much like me, she just can't let it go. The two keep running into each other and promptly get into the habit of bickering. The FMC is very much a people-pleaser who is selfless and always wants to do good for those she cares about - even when they don't deserve it - but our love interest doesn't take this as genuine acts of service when he has been in the past. I was utterly obsessed with the FMC - she works in tech, is a data-nerd and she ends up facing burnout because she pours from an empty cup way too often (same girl, same), but her enthusiasm for data was basically like reading a book about me (I am a digital strategist, and I love living in my little hobbit hole where I get to look at data all day.) I felt the author did such a good job in writing about the feelings that come with wanting to do everything yourself, and how hard it is to ask for help - even for simple things like remembering to eat. As for the love interest, I got really annoyed by how he let his pain and trauma be the driving force in every social interaction with Sam, like WTF dude? Love her, or else I will! Seriously, this was such a great read and I am so excited to get to know the rest of the characters with more stories in this series. The next one follows the marriage in crisis of a historic romance author and guys, I am so psyched to see what Lainey has in store for our girl, Chloe. ➡️ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5➡️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶/5* I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.

I really liked Sam in this book. It was nice to see an overwhelmed CEO struggling to put together a public offering. She was too much of a people pleaser which became a burden. The things I was not as enthused about was AJ. He was very unlikeable. I wasn't sure why she kept constantly forgiving him. The book stressed it was due to a bad breakup, but he was just mean and belittling. I was not a fan. I also wasn't a fan of her family, and I didn't like the book didn't have a good resolution for them. They too were ridiculous and yet, the end her stab at independence was to not and go home for Christmas seemed weak. She was an inventor and head of a company worth near a billion dollars and yet her grand stick it to them moment was choosing not to go home for a holidays? It seems a bit wimpy. Overall and enjoyable book, but certain things definitely detracted from it.

The story itself is cute, but it’s frustrating how Samantha’s family take her for granted and don’t seem to care about her, and even more so how AJ allows his insecurities to affect how he sees Samantha. I don’t know how she continued to give him a second, third and fourth chance. He was a complete jerk and doesn’t deserve her at all. And he didn’t even grovel well. Three stars is generous from me.

This was a fun and flirty story. I loved the characters and the sense of place / community. Easy to read anytime of the day, on vacation or just looking to "get away" for a little while. Happily ever after! Don't take it too seriously.

Boooooooooooooooo

This book pissed me off. Let me explain 🙏🏻
Samantha is an angel and a gift from heaven and she deserves the world.
AJ is a mean old grump and not in a cute grumpy/sunshine way. He is constantly snapping at people and taking his insecurities and anger out on the people around him. He is constantly using his ex (almost) fiancé as a crutch for being horrible. He plays hot and cold with Samantha practically the whole book which just infuriated me because she’s a dime piece and he’s a literal nobody with the personality of a rock.

For the life of me I cannot understand why she gave him SO MANY chances. She was nothing but consistent and honest with him the entire time, and he just compared her to his failed relationship with a gold digger from 2 years ago. Then he exploded on her and said a bunch of horrible things to her and basically accused her of using him and his students for good publicity and then stormed out of her house and then he barely apologized and she STILL TOOK HIM BACK.

Please give me a break. Please. He at least should’ve had to grovel for more than five minutes before she took him back.

UGHHH. Please forgive my ranting but I just could not stand AJ and I wanted to strangle him the entire book.

Fireball is a cute rom com that follows Sam, a CEO and founder of a tech company and AJ a teacher for the Pittsburgh school district. They start out as an enemies after a bad first interaction but things do turn around. I found I really enjoyed Sam and found her super relatable (I especially loved the found family in this book), but AJ wasn't really my favorite. He didn't seem as fleshed out to me so he fell a little flat.

I liked the premise of how these 2 characters meet and I felt their relationship progression was mostly pretty normal (except for their first "interaction" that just felt all kinds of weird and out of place for me). I did also find the describing of AJ to be a little odd as Sam seemed to be really into his body hair?? It came up a bit too often for me, that I found it jarring rather than sexy.

Overall I thought the story was cute, the relationship and its progression worked for me and I easily read this in one sitting. Great book to veg out on the couch with or read at the beach.

I LOVED this book. It really proves how important communication is on both sides in a relationship to avoid misunderstandings and also a bit of what it’s like being a career woman and trying to have it all. I adored Sam and her high energy self and I really can’t resist a good old grouch paired with an energetic boss babe. This is a book I will probably read more than once just because it’s not too long and it’s a great read. I can’t wait to read more from Lainey Davis now!

It takes a quick moment to get used to the gender roles, but it's not not complicated which makes it a non-issue...just interesting. You'll see what I mean. I've never known a woman to be turned on by a bear-like hairy man, but it's absolutely adorable. Foof.

The story gets you from the start. It's a funny book with heat and very strong women. The man in this book has some serious game. The squabbles between the main characters made me smile. You MUST get this book.
