When Maggie May Carver moved to Baker Valley, Colorado she wanted two things: to open a dog barkery with her best friend, and to take care of her aging grandpa.

But when her grandpa is accused of murder--a crime he may well have committed--Maggie finds herself in the role of amateur detective.

With her faithful Newfie, Miss Fancypants, at her side, Maggie is determined to find the real killer and clear her grandpa's name.

Assuming he isn't the real killer, that is.

Aleksa Baxter has a lot in common with the main character of her Nosy Newfie series, Maggie May. She loves Coke, the Colorado mountains, her family and friends, and especially her Newfie, who is not named Miss Fancypants but is very much the inspiration behind her.

A small town with plenty of secrets and one murder - I call it a good beginning of the story. And, of course, the dog. The dog is always a great addition to the story. And Fancy didn't disappoint with her role as the main dog of the story.
The story is easy to read, and even though the end may be predictable, I enjoyed the book from the first to the last page. The characters are not black and white, which is a nice touch, and the reason behind the murders is quite legitimate if you see it the way the murderer does.

Stepping outside of my comfort zone, this was a cute, predictable, easy read, as I ventured to the cozy mystery genre. That being said, I’ve already downloaded the second of the series. It’s a lovely way to unwind on my break.

Cute cozy mystery. Short list of well-developed characters that keep you guessing. First book of Aleksa's I've read. I enjoyed the read.

I want a Miss Fancy myself, haha. I am a lover of animals so this caught my eye, it was a good read, mild suspense, great characters with good storylines a couple of them get you right in the heart. I will be getting the second book, I enjoyed this one very much.

This is a smart and sassy but way too short mystery. I liked the characters, their interactions and the plot. I'm so glad the damsel in distress is a thing of the past.

The draw for me to this book was the Newfie on the cover. I love dogs, and honestly think they are better companions than some people because of their loyalty, and that trait comes out so well in this cozy. This was a well thought out mystery with great characters, human as well as canine. Lots of detail, sassy dialog, and plenty of action. I did figure out the culprit before the big reveal, but I enjoyed the journey so much it did not matter. I've been to Colorado, and so the description of the mountains was something I could relate to. I have also lived in some small towns and so the small town mentality of Creek, was something I could also relate to. There is a hint of romance in this story which gives it just a bit of spice and expectations of things to come in future books. I really thought this was a good cozy first in the series book and look forward to reading more.

For a long time I have wanted a newfie--a Nana dog--and I really like the name of the dog in this book--Miss Fancypants. Just a great name, and a really interesting book, too.
Maggie May, yes, named after the Rod Stewart song, has moved back to Colorado to live with her grandfather and open a café/dog barkery with her best friend, Jamie. She discovers a dead body and so the mystery begins.
Don't want to give anything away--there are many twists and turns.
I like the way the author writes--she makes her main character very real, her thoughts and actions.
I hope this is the first book of many.

I couldn’t put it down. It was funny and clever, and very "real". Loved the dogs and their antics. I have 4 dogs.

I didn't think this would turn into such a great read. I got the first book in the series and thought that would be it, but I fell in love with the characters. It's a light read but keeps me interested all the way through.

Book is slow but that compliments the way it is written. Good plot. I didn’t figure out who done it until the end. Well done.
