Bluestone Homecoming (Welcome to Bluestone Book 1) Kindle Edition
School counselor Trinity Madison watches Leo struggle with his son, trying to overcome the mental barricade she’s erected against the man who sent his son away when he’s perfectly capable of caring for the child. The situation brings about her own unsettled feelings about giving her child up for adoption when she was young. But as she observes Leo’s difficulties, his sacrifices, she softens toward the man. While he’s in town, he ends up working with some old friends and Trinity on a committee to revitalize Bluestone. The former resort town is struggling and looking for ways to bring tourists back. Leo finds himself charmed, then smitten with the feisty counselor, but will he still love her when he learns her secret?

The author has a wonderful way with words that brings alive the characters and makes them realistic and believable, the description of the small town Bluestone made it very enjoyable for me to read and took me there with each description.
Trinity is the Bluestone Elementary School counselor and is the daughter of a Reveren. She made a mistake in college and her family has never let her forget it. When Leo comes to town because his son isn't adjusting well he meets Trinity. There is an instant attraction but Leo doesn't plan to stay for long and Trinity isn't sure she wants to get involved with someone who is leaving but she also hasn't been in a relationship since college and she's very attracted to Leo.
This book starts out a little slow as it introduces everyone to the town of Bluestone and the characters within it. This book is a sweet romance with touching moments between Leo and his son Max. Leo and Trinity are both likeable characters who work well together. I liked that Leo took it slow and charmed his way back into both his son's life and Trinity's life. MJ did a wonderful job of showing how the grief both Leo and Max felt affected them and the repercussions of Leo being gone so much. The initial scenes between Leo and Max were Leo felt so awkward with his own son and the pain that they were both feeling were very touching and heart wrenching.
This was a sweet, entertaining and easy read. The biggest issue was the rushed ending. I expected more of an ending and it was obvious that the book was leading to the next one which will be about two different characters from Bluestone. I'm not all that intrigued about the next couple in the book and in fact can't remember there names just that one is the country singer and the other is the waitress but I would like to read Lily and Quinn's book so I'll probably pick up the second book as well because I have to read a series in order.
Bottom Line: good introduction to a sweet and touching small town romantic series.
I love stories that involve a small town setting anyway. I really don't know why, other than I was raised in one myself....so I guess I can relate more to them then I can other stories that involve the big city settings.
Anyway, about the story.....
This story have me laughing one minute, and bawling my eyes out the next. I felt the turmoil that Leo was going through having to decide between being there for his son, and going off to a job he loves, as a major war correspondent. I'm so very glad he chose his son over his job in the end. I know he only left because he couldn't handle his wife's death, but he never once stopped to consider the impact her death had on his son. And that was so wrong.
The one that I felt most sorry for was poor little Max. That poor kid just lost his mother, then he was torn away from the only home he ever knew, to move to a small town where he just didn't feel like he fit in. On top of that his dad also left him behind, while he went off to do his job overseas. So basically; to poor Max... it was like loosing two parents at once. And I don't know about any of you...but I think a 9 yr old is just a little too old to still have a grandmother bathing you. I'm sure he was quite embarrassed. I know I have a 9 yr. old grandson that would be mortified, if he even thought anyone was in the bathroom with him, little lone his grandmother.. And yes, his father came back to help him get through his problems, but for how long? Seems as though Max was always sitting on pins and needles, waiting for the day his father packed up and left him again. That is hard enough to go through for any child, so I understand completely why he started acting out.
I also felt the turmoil and shame that Trinity felt, too. It's one thing to be so young and all alone, and then to find out your pregnant too? And if that wasn't bad enough, the baby's father also abandons her. I have to give her credit for having the guts to do what's right by that child. It would have been nicer if she could have done it without being judged so harshly by her picture perfect family. The way her family treated her for the last nine years, has me questioning whether or not her own family even loved her in the first place. Aren't families supposed to love & support their child unconditionally? I would have been so proud of my child for doing what was right for the child. After all; that is not a easy decision for anyone to make.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, most definitely.
