Surprising Their Secretary (Love & Lifestyles: The Daddies Book 1) Kindle Edition
Jordan knows pining for her bosses is the worst thing she could do… well, it’s the worst until they all end up together at a lifestyle meet and greet. Obviously dating her bosses is now the worst decision she could make, right?
Shaun and Dylan thought dating the best admin they’ve ever had would be the stupidest thing they could do. But as they see her across a room full of Daddies, they realize just how wrong they’ve been. All it takes is one look at their sweet girl and they know letting her go would really be the stupidest thing they could do.
With change in the air and toys in the playroom, a Daddy, a Dom, and a little just might fall in love.
**This title was originally a novella in the Dirty Daddies Pride Anthology. It has been extended into a full-length novel for this re-release.**

Jamie Merrick is the pen name of a USA Today best-selling author with too much time on her hands and too many books in her head. These books will be sweet and spicy but low angst and with lots of love in all kinds of pairings.
The books that Jamie writes will be MMF with feisty subs and tender Doms with all kinds of wonderfully sweet kinks thrown in for fun. First of all, in my opinion, the guys names should've been switched- Shaun, (the Daddy Dom) is a strong name and Dylan (the Dom) is a softer name, so because of that I had to keep stopping to remember who was who. And because it was just Master Dylan and Daddy at the end it got worse for me. Bad flow.
Then there was their personalities- Shaun was the intelligent, intense, absent minded professor that needed a minder, hence Jordan, the wonder assistant. She was also the mediator between the two guys. Again, Shaun, an unsure and insecure Daddy Dom, was just a caring, intense lover when his focus was on them, but more like a "boy" to Dylan, not a Dom. Dylan his husband, was more like an impatient, in-your-face person that was also a jokester most of the time. Supposedly Shaun had the social problem but to me, both guys were inept socially. Jordan had her hands full with both these two. And Jordan went from being an efficient, professional, accepting, woman assistant, to an unsure, sweet girl, and back to a secure knows-what-she-wants, and is fine stepping into their well established marriage, "little", in a snap! Way too fast.
But the biggest problem I had was that there's no background info, or physical descriptions on any of these three. There's a little bit about how the guys met. I'm assuming the cover pic is supposed to be Shaun. And he's the architect but what's Dylan's job? And they're both her bosses but they're not the owners, and there's no locks on their doors so they can't be that important if just anyone can walk into their domain and with nothing to safeguard. And there's really vague hints to Jordan's earlier experiences but does she have any family? Friends? Like I said- not a complete story. Disappointed. I have the next book but this wasn't enough to keep me keep reading.
I don’t mind insta love stories. When they are written right with good background info they are amazing. This one unfortunately didn’t do it for me. I’m sorry! 😢
My biggest issue - the story failed to establish the characters before jumping into the story. I was struggling to figure out who was who and what their relationships were to each other. The dialogue had very little context and was rushed and scattered, particularly during the scene where the men were hiding in the bathroom.
I think the main issue is that the author was relying on their own knowledge of the characters while writing the story, and forgetting to convey things in their head to the audience. A good remedy for this kind of issue is, instead of throwing us right into one of the most important scenes in the story with a few small explanations, give us some scenes of the guys interacting together as a couple, and the main characters interacting at their place of work. Show us who they are before they land at the club meet and greet acting all nervous and flustered because they work together. Don’t just tell us “hey, they work together” with a short, awkward rundown about how she apparently knows about their extracurriculars, and then expect that to be enough. One of the most common mistakes an author can make is telling and not showing. If you read a lot of reviews for unsuccessful books, that is a frequent complaint.
I do think the plot was a fun idea! I love mmf stories where the men are together as well, and the awkward humor that could result from running into a boss at an event like that would be so much fun to read about. Though more fun if they were completely oblivious to each other’s interests. And the story of them navigating a new relationship after that could be both humorous and charming. So a good start!
