I'm calling it now - this is going to be one of my favorite books of the year
Raleigh Beaumont has spent his entire life preparing to run the Texas ranch that has been in his late mother's family for generations, so it comes as a shock when his father passes away and leaves the ranch to his second wife, Raleigh's (wicked) stepmother Twila, instead of him. Twila has no interest in running a ranch, so she accepts a buyout offer from developers to fund her designer lifestyle in Dallas. Realizing that he needs to get away from the situation, Raleigh's best friend Zeke takes him to Las Vegas, where he meets a mysterious woman who, after hearing his tale, invites him to a private poker game. He's not sure if he should accept, but curiosity gets the better of him. Later that evening, Raleigh is stunned to find himself the new Baron of Lochmara, an estate in Scotland.Meanwhile, Kyla MacKean has been busy preparing her family's estate, Ardinmuir, for her brother's upcoming wedding, which she hopes will establish them as a premier Highlands wedding destination. Her plans are threatened when the bride, Afton Lennox, runs away a week before the wedding. They soon learn that Afton lost her ancestral estate, Lochmara, in a poker game and the new owner has arrived to claim his prize. In order to keep it, Raleigh will have to fulfill the terms of an ancient marriage pact by taking Kyla as his bride. With ownership of Ardinmuir on the line as well, Kyla agrees to a one-year marriage of convenience; after that, she and Raleigh will divorce, having satisfied the terms of the pact. But a year is a long time, and when all is said and done, Kyla and Raleigh may just find that their feelings for each other are more than mere convenience.I completely adored this story! We're only two weeks into January and I'm pretty sure it's going to end up being one of my favorite books of the year. After the initial fireworks when they first met, I liked that Kyla and Raleigh became friends and partners as they worked to save both of their estates. The romance that blossomed between them was kind of sneaky and unexpected, but it made perfect sense given their mutual interest in preserving the land and heritage. They supported each other and their ideas, which was particularly important for Kyla because she felt as if she'd carried the burden of her family's legacy alone for so long. For her, it was refreshing and gratifying to find someone willing to help her.I highly recommend "Cowboy in a Kilt" for all contemporary romance fans and can't wait to get my hands on the next book of the series.

Interesting story. Raleigh and Kyla did not start off with any kind of relationship as they were forced to marry due to a pact signed many centuries ago. Her brother was suppose to satisfy the pack, but the bride-to-be ran off and gambled away her home to Raleigh. The story is about how they fall in love with very little drama. It does takes place in Scotland, since Raleigh lost his home and land to a stepmother who sold everything. Great story to read.

A lovely story about marrying for duty and falling in love with your spouse. Heartfelt romance about strangers marrying to fulfill an ancient pledge and the plans that go awry. Good characters, nicely paced, well written. Each book has a link to bonus material also. It will be fun to read the series and get to know all the other friends and family.

Kait Nolan is a thoroughly enjoyable author. Easy to follow stand-alone. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama.

This story begins on an incredibly harsh note but quickly becomes entertaining for the reader. Intriguing storyline which begs the question what would you do in this situation? Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking and memorable dialogue.

‘She always said you should never be the first person to let go in a hug because the other person might need it more.”

And maybe it wouldn’t end up working in the grand scheme of things, but he’d tried. He’d taken the time and put himself out there to give her what she needed. Hell, he’d made her a spreadsheet, speaking the language of her ever-so-practical heart.

No desire to re-read this story. I always look forward to works by this author.

When I saw the title I imagined a very different storyline. This book is very well written. I loved the animals and their personalities. It gave the book a sweet family feel. I’ve read several of Kait Nolan’s books. I haven’t been disappointed yet. You won’t either.

If you haven't read the prequel to this book, 'Jilting the Kilt', STOP! Go and read it, it introduces important players in this series.

Raleigh Beaumont is awaiting the reading of his father's will. Charlotte Vasquez, his mom's best-friend and the woman he thinks of as his second mom is with him as he looks over the north pasture. A truck pulls in and he realizes his best friend Zeke has come as well. He doesn't need the support, but he appreciates them being here.Turns out he does need them, his father left everything to his second wife, Twila. She's selling to a developer, and he doesn't have the funds to buy it for the same price. To top it off she's given a week to get out. The ranch that has been in his mother's family for generations is now lost to him. Not only is he out of a home so are all the hands and Charlotte.

Persuaded by his best friend Zeke to go to Vegas he has an unusual encounter with a surprising outcome. Afton Flynn in a private poker game has lost her estate and her title to Raleigh Beaumont. He's the new Baron of Lochmara, the entire estate is his.

The only thing she didn't tell him is about the marriage pact. That's not going away and Connor is now free as well. Unfortunately, that puts Kyla in the hot seat.

Kyla decides she's not against marrying and then divorcing and informs her boyfriend David of that. She just has to fulfil the pact and separate for a year and the divorce will be final. One thing she was not prepared is for the Banns to be announced for her and Raleigh's wedding to be on the town's social media page. It's a heck of a way for Raleigh to find out as well and he goes to confront her.

Sophie manages to find a couple to wed at the estate, thus saving her and Kyla's business. But unfortunately, David can't find a way for Kyla to come up with the money, so they are left with only one way to preserve the estates, marry. With all the red tape involved in marrying in Scotland, and witnesses Hamish and Connor in tow, they elope to Gibraltar. Raleigh does get his own witness in Zeke when he arrives with the ring Raleigh requested.

Arriving back at Lochmara, Charlotte shows up with the rest of his things from America and she's definitely miffed she wasn't at the wedding. Now they have to keep her from knowing the truth of their arrangement. Malcolm isn't sure what to make of her at all.

I love the way this story unfolds, from the wedding to the end it is a never-ending struggle to keep the properties afloat, but Raleigh and even Zeke have their eyes open looking for money making opportunities. Sophie and Kyla's Wedding Business also begins to take off.

Plenty of laughter, tears, romance and a touch of sizzle!

First story for me by this author and I did enjoy it. My heart ached in the opening scene of what transpires for the H and reading of the Will. I don't think how he was cheated would have happened, since from his mother's family --- no spoilers.

The H was the perfect man, kind, loyal, hard worker and honorable. The h took me longer to like, as her story unravels with what she has dealt with all alone, you understood her better.

Great secondary characters too. Romance builds slowly, lovemaking within marriage heat level 4 out of 5, and described a couple times. Crude words and Lords name used in vain.

The h's brother had an idea near the end of the story how to help get them out of debt, but this was just dropped. Also, something important happens to the h at the end, but we don't know the cause. I like my stories tied in a nice bow with no loose ends - lol.

No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, but a teaser with a secondary character is a set up for the next story. Also we get HEA and some steam. An epilogue a few months in the future which you have to download separately, which I dislike. When you do you are signing up the this author's newsletter so you're warned. (ljb)

This was a sweet story where dedication to home and family shine. Although some of the details bringing the main characters together is somewhat far fetched, I really enjoyed watching them try to work together for the betterment of all. Little did they know that each is what the other has been searching for. A bit of drama and a touch of suspense made the HEA more satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars I’m gonna love this series!!!

I went into Cowboy in a Kilt both looking forward to it and not being entirely sure ….. Being a Scot, I find I’m often disappointed in books where the characters are Scottish and the writer obviously hasn’t done their homework fully and the language/dialect/words/location just don’t fit or are just plain wrong and that drives me crazy! While I know I will have to suspend some belief reading certain fiction, some things should be right… Sorry, kinda not sorry…

Kait delighted me as she has definitely paid attention to locations, words (and spelling) and while there are some of our colloquial phrases and words used she didn’t over use them when the characters were speaking.
I could picture settings, especially the drive from up north to Edinburgh… all of this, along with the story just made me love this book more! I also got the feeling that Ms Nolan might like this awesome (ok, I’m biased! 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) wee country of ours!?!

Raleigh was a great guy. Hadn’t had the happiest life since his mum passed then was, IMHO, betrayed by his dad…

Meeting a stranger at a casino with a strange proposition was just another weird turn in his world.

I don’t know how I expected him to be when he got to the village but the gods, the guy threw himself into the whole experience.

Kyla, poor Kyla. He she is thinking her brother is gonna bear the weight of the centuries old pact around their family property and that of the Lennox family, when all of a sudden things change and she’s suddenly in the spotlight.

I liked Raleigh and Kyla together. They formed a friendships that was developing into more - but there was the complication of Kyla already having a boyfriend who lived in the city. I didn’t entirely like the premise of how things would go, especially when it was obvious that feelings were more than were being admitted…

I liked the supporting cast of characters, one or two in particular and you could definitely see some future couples within the friend/family group!

An excellent first book in the Kilted Hearts series and I can’t wait for more!!!!

** Read the novella Jilting the Kilt to meet the main characters that are gonna be in the series and for a glimpse at a happy couple from one of Kait’s other series!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun forced proximity cowboy Scottish fake marriage horrible pact romance!
Reviewed in Canada on November 2, 2023
This is Kyla's and Raleigh's story.

If you've read Jilting the Kilt, the prequel for this series, you'll know that there's a huge issue at hand. And Afton has gambled away her home and land because she can't be the one to marry Conner.

That leaves Kyla to be the one to take up the marriage pact to save her home and his.

Raleigh is the man, a cowboy from Texas that Afton gambled it away to.

This is a Scotish romance as it's based in the beautiful land of Scotland. It's a cowboy romance as Raleigh is a cowboy from Texas that relocates to Scotland to claim his land and title. But he doesn't know about the marriage pact.

It's a fake marriage romance as they get married to fulfill the terms of this pact.

It's a forced proximity romance as she moves in with him. It's a friends to lovers romance because as they spend time together they learn to rely upon each other and fall in love.

This is an easy read. There's one sexy scene, a little detailed.

It's a great story. Kait Nolan is a great author. I love her writing style. This is a story worth reading!
