Teaching the Teacher's Pet: A YA Enemies to Lovers Romance (Most Likely To Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 707 ratings

When the popular crowd at Brentwood High votes me Most Likely To: Marry A Math Book, I’m ready to put my ruler into the eye of any egotistical jock who comes near me.

Including the idolized Bobcats football player, Connor Bray, when he asks me to tutor him.

His only requirement?

Our tutoring sessions must be top-secret—meaning that because Connor is too embarrassed to be seen with the resident math geek, I can’t even tell my boyfriend I’m helping Brentwood High’s all-star player.

And I’m about to tell him where he can stick his protractor when the principal steps in, saying that if I agree to help Connor pass his makeup test—and keep him on the team to lead Brentwood to the State Championships—she’ll reinstate the valedictorian award I’d been striving for my entire life.

Brentwood High’s finest, cornering its top student with bribery.

But there is one thing Connor might have to offer in return—love advice to recapture the spark with my ever-distant boyfriend. Connor, who keeps the student body mesmerized just by flashing a forearm, is bound to have a good game plan, right?

Except when Connor begins to give me lessons in love—and his demonstrations are breathtakingly thorough—it starts to feel like I’m the one getting schooled.

I forgot how much I love the enemies to lovers trope until I read this book! Sarah is such a great story teller and gives each character so many endearing qualities (and backstories!) you can’t help but fall in love with them. I loved Maisie and Connor‘s banter. Maisie might be one of my favorite characters I’ve read in a WHILE! She’s smart, witty, she loves what she loves… I just really enjoyed her! Connor has so much personality and is a (seemingly) cocky jock you just can’t help but love. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. I started with book 3 (RWTBB), jumped to book one, and now I’m moving onto book 2. I love that you can read them in any order. I’m flying through the series and loving all the Easter eggs strewn throughout. Can’t wait for BOOK 4!! (I’ve used the word LOVE several times in this review, but it’s definitely the most appropriate word for this sweet romance series and how I feel about it. ❤️)

This was the perfect easy, sweet, funny, sure YA romance stress relieving novel for me at this time. I found Maisie to be the right amount of annoying, her bf, Alex, to the right amount of awful and Connor to the right amount of messed up. Everyone in this book is flawed either openly or they hide it and that is what I think I really enjoyed about this story. I enjoyed the slow burn, the character growth and the twists and the HEA. It is a lovely, clean YA romance that I will re-read because it was that fun and funny.

This story was good. I have to admit that I don't read too many books about high school romances because I like to see growth in becoming an adult. Maisie is in her senior year of high school. She is intelligent, pretty, nerdy, and loves math. She is fighting for her senior year to be valedictorian so she can secured for her future in college. Maisie is the best math tutor when she gets blindsided with the person she has to tutor and so happens she do not like him. Connor is the star football player. He is handsome, funny, smart and popular in school. He doesn't show himself since he is popular. Connor finds out he needs a tutor for math so he goes to convince Maisie. Their journey is rocky from the start but eventually it becomes more then either of realize. This is my first time reading from this author and I like it. Great work Sarah Sutton!

Honestly, it took me a bit to make it through the first bit of this book because Maisie's character seemed really whiny, but from the second Maisie bit Connor's hand, I became hooked. Humorous interactions between the two as their attraction grew after each tutoring session. It was cute that Connor was giving her Love Lessons, which actually helped them with connection instead of her and her then-boyfriend. Great emotions and character development. Thoroughly enjoyed and will keep reading the rest of the books in the series now that groundwork is laid for characters I already adore.

First, may I just bow down to the queen of the YA Romance genre, Sarah Sutton. I found her on YouTube and then bought and binged all of her books. They never fail to give me butterflies!
Maisie and Connor are no exception. They’re absolutely adorable!!! (Especially Connor…)
Their banter was everything! Maisie is so snarky and I loved reading all her inner turmoil about the lessons in love Connor was giving her. Every time they touched, I was begging for them to kiss already! Their chemistry was off the charts!
The way that Maisie fell out of love with her boyfriend as she spent more time with Connor felt very natural. She became more confident over the course of the novel and started to realize that she wanted more out of a relationship than she was getting.
Connor is truly a sweetheart and his lessons in love just really reinforced the chemistry that he and Maisie have. I was rooting for him and Maisie to get together from the first time he was on the page.
Their scene in the closet almost ended me, it was so adorable! And their first kiss gave me all the feels.
Overall, this book is about two characters who are living in a world of secrecy, afraid to be who they truly are. But as Maisie and Connor spend more time together, they open up to each other and what started as a forced tutoring relationship blossoms into a beautiful friendship and then a butterfly-inducing romance.
Also, I made a note at least ten times that just said, “Connor is such a cutie!” and I wholly stand by that assessment.
I love the series premise of the “Most Likely To” list and can’t wait for book two!

I am absolutely obsessed with Maisie and Connor. The build up was genuine and I could feel myself start to breaks all the walls down with each character. Beautiful story and just makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

This story is clean in all the ways. I appreciate that in a YA romance. Maisie and Connor are cute together and seen like well rounded characters. I felt like Connor took a lot of unfair and rather cruel treatment from Maisie at the beginning of the story. I honestly didn't like her much until after their tutoring became more comfortable and she gave up being mad at everyone and everything. But the ending made it all worth it. Totally not something I think would actually happen, especially not in high school, but totally romantic and what every girl wishes would happen to them. It has me swooning. ❤️

Sarah Sutton always gets me with that little twist at the end that shows her characters really are just teenagers trying to figure out life. That twist makes the ending all the sweeter. This is the third book of her I’ve read in the last 24 hours, and I’m about to read another.

I've been following Sarah Sutton for a while now on her YouTube channel and decided on this book being the first of hers to read. Best decision EVER! I love the details, everything described I see so clearly and it made me smile, laugh, cringe, get goosebumps and I cried. All the emotions were there :D The characters are super believable and I rooted for them right away. Awesome how Sarah weaved the characters that are the main point of views of the other books already in this first book. I felt like on a treasure hunt jumping with excitement when I found another easter egg! :D
There were some spelling errors and one logical mistake in the story line but the story is strong enough so it didn't harm the plot in the least. Love, love, love and cannot wait to get the second book!! Also I really liked the Bonus point of view :)

I cannot stop gushing over what a page turner that was and how great everything fit together!
All in all an absolute must read for people who love YA romance and great writing! Hope this series will be a movie or a show on Netflix one day!!! 5/5 in blue and gold!! :D <3

Having read all of Sutton’s other books, this one was on my tbr the moment I had space. I loved the idea of a list and everyone at school trying to prove their titles wrong. Maisie was delightful as a character and getting to know her and Connor just had me speeding through the book in one sitting. I adored the trope, one that I usually find isn’t done well, but Sutton has a way with words and made this one perfect, giving you all the threads of the story and tying them up at the end. Overall an amazingly delightful read, and highly recommended!

I’m not exactly sure how or when it happened, but I went from disliking Maisie to rooting for her. And that is how you know it is a good book!
Everything feels bleak and frustrating to…not. And while you might see or expect the HEA to happen, it was still sweet and satisfying.
