Hurt Me, Daddy (The Brat & The Beast Duet Book 1) (Maddox Sharks Football 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 2,445 ratings

Does the baddest boy in school need a tutor... or a Daddy?

I've spent my whole life needing absolutely nothing and getting exactly that. Love? No. Security? Yeah, right. Parental supervision? As if. I take care of myself. After graduation, my football scholarship and I are out of here and we're never looking back.

Unless I screw it up.

Trying to study when I'm cold and hungry, that I'm used to. But throw in my mom's sketchy new boyfriend and his shady side hustle, and my home life's suddenly way more than just unbearable. Studying's barely on my radar and I'm in danger of losing my future before it starts.

My one shot at turning things around is The Beast.

Caleb Heath is the smartest guy in school. And the biggest. A giant, quiet bookworm with no friends, and okay, maybe that's partly my fault, but whatever. I hate him and he hates me, so why would he even offer to be my tutor?

Turns out there's a reason. He doesn't just want to save my grades. He doesn't just want to save my season. He wants to save
me.

Wants to wrap me up in his giant arms and rescue me. He wants to spoil me. Punish me. Take care of me. He wants me to call him Daddy.

Sure it's hot. Sure it's tempting to think anyone could ever really want me. But I'm way too old to believe in fairy tales.

Aren't I?

I have honestly never left a review before but I simply have to now. This book is a full 5 stars. I had this book on my kindle for awhile before I finally read it and only had it because it was a free kindle book. The title and cover do not do this book justice! It is sheer perfection. The characters feel so real and are so endearing I absolutely fell in love with them. This book has all the feels. It’s a great story with more heart than most books I’ve ever read. I cried more times than I could count and while some of this story is heartbreaking, most of it is heartwarming and the majority of my tears were happy tears because my heart was simply bursting. The thing I was shocked to notice and probably the biggest reason I’m leaving this review is because I literally had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it! I don’t know if that’s ever happened before. Another selling point is the spice. This book is definitely SPICY 🌶️😂. I couldn’t put this book down and immediately devoured the other two books in the series because they are both just as good. Usually I get bored with the same characters if there’s more than one book with the same couple but that was definitely not the case here. I just couldn’t get enough. I’m probably going to have to buy the paperbacks just to have on my shelf they are so good. Misha Horne is amazing and now I’m starting another of her books and that smile is back. I bet I write another review 😄 Caleb & Logan will capture your heart too, I guarantee it!

This book starts out a little bit slow. We have Logan who is having a hard time…to say the least. He is about to lose his scholarship and his only chance at freedom from his terrible family life. In comes Caleb, a tutor who is going to help Logan. Caleb and Logan have an intense history but along the way, feelings develop…or have always been there. This book made me feel absolute rage, made me giggle, made my heart swoon, and most importantly, it made me smile! Can’t wait to see what book 2 has in store! ❤️❤️❤️

All spicy novels are not created equal, and this one is a WINNER. The writing makes you care about the protagonist, the pacing is masterful; no, I don’t know the author, I’m not a plant, I’ve just begun reading spicy stuff in the last year, and I’ve read the plectrum quality-wise, and this is one of the best. SUPER hot, and all the emotions are tangible, I cried, felt warm below the waist, made my wife hold me after I finished it, and am not beginning the sequel in the same night. I don’t often write reviews, just give stars, but I’m. A. FAN!!!

This has a good story, loads of hurt/comfort and a daddy totally worth swooning over even if he’s so young the idea of a real life Caleb would make me cringe… but it’s not done? It really bothers me that this is split into two books. It ends on a cliffhanger of sorts, and while that’s fine—it’s whatever honestly—it should have been written as a HFN and it’s not. I’m really assuming the next book is going to be a higher rating. I’m not hating on this—at all, I really enjoyed it—but, yeah. It feels undone and I just do not appreciate that at all.

That being said, if you like…

MM High School Romance (19 yo MCs)
Jock/Nerd (football player and very swoony tutor)
Hurt/Comfort
Broken Boys
Daddy Kink, and
Impact Play

Then you’ll like this one! Just keep in mind it’s part one of what should have been 1 book 🤷🏻‍♀️ on to book 2 I go!

Slow burn. Very good. I wish it would have been dual pov, but it didn’t disappoint. Some areas dragged a bit and some were worth the wait. I’m in love with Caleb as a person and can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

This is not a portrayal of poverty as owning a 10 year old car and addiction as a parent who sometimes acts a little silly. It is an uncomfortable look at how things can get, before Logan accepts that he really does have an opportunity to get out. The person who wants to show him he's worth saving is the last person he expects to offer anything but revenge for his childhood bullying. While I'm looking forward to part two, it does feel like a complete journey in itself just seeing these two communicating honestly together. I don't think Logan fully understands how Caleb's kink actually requires honesty and trust to really work, but he's clearly getting there. It's nice.

Took me a minute to get into this one. 19 year old teenage boys are not my point of view of choice. BUT once I did I loved the writing. There were several laugh out loud moments. Logan is certainly clever. Do I want more of Caleb’s backstory? Yes. But that’s because I want to see him learning about what he enjoys. Overall very good ending. I hope to see this couple again soon

Until literally 62% of the book nothing happened and I was pretty angry. But then... when it did happen. Oh boy. All the good things happened. All the right things. I love you, Misha Horne.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this story. Love these lovers.

Logan is a desperate kid. He’s so used to living in despair that he has lost sight of how bad his situation really is. His mom is a flaked out alcoholic / druggies/ stripper who , along with a revolving door of scum boyfriends, threatens to kick him out, when she isn’t trying to force him to work and hand over money for her bad habits.
Caleb is a fellow student, a boy Logan used to bully mercilessly. But Caleb grew to be huge - and although he remembers Logan’s poor treatment of him in the past- he’s way over it, and because he is as emotionally and intellectually intelligent as he is tall, he gets that Logan has never really had a chance to try being anything but hostile and aggressive.
Logan’s made himself become a good athlete , and he’s always considered himself a top when it comes to sex, but Caleb pulls him in , a little at a time, becoming his tutor when it looks like he could lose the one thing he’s counting on to get him out of his crap life - a scholarship - Something shifts- Caleb’s different. He watches Logan so intensely. Like he’s waiting for something to give … but Caleb hates him, right? And Logan should hate being tutored by the way- too- tall ‘ beast’ Caleb , with his huge hands…always so organized, always wearing those stupid gray sweaters, and being so smart…Always listening so carefully, like what Logan says actually matters…The only guy that ever managed to make Logan feel physically small…But…the thing is…Logan doesn’t hate it.
Not at all. Not even a little.
What the hell is happening?
Read this very satisfying love story to find out.

I usually don’t care for first person narrative, but for this story it works really well. It gave me the best insight , seeing the tale from Logan’s perspective.
I really like the way the the author pulled me in and almost immediately got me cheering for Logan and Caleb. I will definitely re-read this series. I need to own it in paperback. Can’t wait to dive into the next book.

Well done Misha Horne.👍🏻❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Surprise ever

I don’t give 5 stars lightly. Most MM books for me have one or two factors missing to really get a 5 star rating, but this series definitely deserves all the stars.
I was so skeptical beforehand because Daddy Kink really does nothing for me but holy hell this author does such a great job describing the MCs and their emotional experience that I really got why this kink does something for them while also not focusing too much on the kinky side of the characters but building them multifaceted and relatable. There is good spice (even if you’re not a fan of the daddying, it’s not too extreme) without it being all the book is about.
Also, as a psychologist I got off on how well the author depicts Logans inner turmoil and how realistic his thoughts & fears are considering his up bringing. I wish every kid going through what Logan went through gets to meet and keep someone like Caleb - he’s such a sweetheart.
And that’s the selling point for me why I gave 5 stars. In most hurt/comfort or even most mm books from one POV only the love interest of the MC is just there to support the MC. The characters are often flat and have no depth - not the case here! Even though the focus definitely is on Logan (which he deserves & takes nothing from the story), we learn a lot about Caleb and his behavior and how that connects to his past as well! We understand both characters at the end of the story and I absolutely love that. The author really took their time with making sure the characters are relatable and it shows. In the side characters as well!!
I’m so excited for Walker & Ellis and I’m hoooooping for dual POV!

First time with this author and had constantly seen this book recommended through book groups and then saw it was free on a fill my kindle day so I went ahead and got it and well I am not disappointed. It was a quite a slow burn but I was here for that as it truly built up the relationship and the type of situation Logan was accustomed to! This is only their beginning and I cannot wait to see how this flows. He truly needed someone like Caleb and well, when their relationship took that level, it really took that level and it was ✨explosive✨🫦 loved this and about to dive into book 2!

This was great.
I managed to inhale this little gem of a book in a few sittings, and the only thing I can think of is: Misha Horne's a genius.

I've read several of their books now, and I think "Hurt Me, Daddy" is my favourite to date.
It's angsty and emotional and tough and sweet and hopeful and hot and just, precisely my kind of jam.

Logan is also precisely my kind of protagonist: he's mean and angry, but he's also deeply hurt and broken and vulnerable and self-loathing, and I spent the whole book wishing somebody would just swoop in and save him from his horrible home life. Thankfully, that's where Caleb came in, with his giant, grabby hands and his gentle but domineering personality: Logan didn't stand a chance.
I think (HA, no, I know!) I have a weakness for these kinds of protagonists and this kind of relationship, where some sort of expectation or role is reversed: secretly subby, bully jock and his giant, domineering nerd? YES, PLEASE. I love it when big grumps find their match, and their submission, in their even bigger, uber possessive and commanding love interests.

Logan and Caleb's relationship was fabulous: surprisingly slow-burn, in the sense that I was expecting it to advance much more quickly than it did, but actually, I found the pacing just perfect; also, sweeter and gentler than what I was expecting, and also, so damn hot. Their chemistry was off the charts, and every single one of their interactions is now literally branded in my brain.

Everything that happened between Logan and Caleb, from their mutual discovery to the praising and the care-taking, everything was so damn good, ridiculously lovely and addictive. And the way Horne mixes steam with angst? Absolutely unforgettable, all-round chef-kissing.

I'm jumping into book two RIGHT AWAY. I can't get enough of these two.
