Lola and Devlin

Lola and Devlin Evers have their own books. They are featured in The Evers Series which focuses on the Traveling World: Humans from a Magical Bloodline who receives a magical key on their 13th birthday. This Key enables the bearer to manifest a door and travel anywhere in the world. Lola is also a Time Walker; she can use a Time Watch to travel through time. Devlin is also a World Jumper; he can add a Sphere to his door an travel to any known world. Although they are siblings, Lola and Devlin meet for the first time at The Academy, where they also trigger magical abilities.

Tom Callahan

Tom Callahan is a character from The Evers Series. He is Lola's boyfriend. When Lola and Devlin search for answers about their new magical abilities, it is discovered that Tom, Lola, and Devlin are all descendants of the Harding Twins, powerful sorceresses from the XIVth Century. Tom is therefore not surprised when, on his 16th birthday, he triggers his own set of magical powers.

Zaina and Arturo

Zaina and Arturo are characters we meet in The Blood Mage. They are students at the Harding Academy for the Magical Arts and very powerful.

Zaina is short-tempered but loyal. She can connect herself to artifacts, moving them and knowing their general location.

Arturo is the top student of his year and great at telekinesis.

Tom needs to be trained in his magic - at the start, he has power but no control. He is being hunted and, even if he is struggling with his powers and the ramifications that come from them, others have their sights on taking everything from him.
It's a story about magic, but also friendship and how one young man fits between multiple worlds.

Little slower than previous books (Blood Mage Bk 1, and Evers Series) but still very enjoyable and progresses the story to set up Book 3 to tie down all the loose ends.

I received Blood Magick, by Marie-Hélène Lebeault, as an ARC from the author. It is the second book in The Blood Magick Trilogy. I don’t think I could read it as a standalone. For me, reading the Blood Mage gave me a foundation for this second book. Lola, Tom’s girlfriend, and Devlin, her brother, and the Academy for Travelers, play a somewhat smaller part in this story than in the previous book. Tom’s friends from the Harding Academy are now the main supporting characters.

This book is definitely about Tom. And his Blood Magick. About Tom finding where he fits in the magickal world. It is about how the magick has changed Tom and how those changes affect the others in his life. It is about Tom’s frustration at being left out of the discussions and plans for his and his family’s protection.

For much of the beginning of the book, Tom acts like a first-class jerk. He is so different from the Tom in the first book. With almost uncontrollable angst and fury hovering just below the surface, always ready to explode. It isn’t until Tom meets Emmet, whose name is not really Emmet, that he suspects the reason why. It is later confirmed in a meeting with some of the staff at Harding. And, no, I’m not going to tell you. I don’t do spoilers.

Speaking of the Harding staff, there is a very cool time travelling history professor that takes Tom on a very interesting hop and a skip into the past.

The first book, Blood Mage, ended with a cliffhanger, with Tom Callahan preparing to face a hoard of warlocks led by “The Master”. The second book starts with those warlocks breaking the wards of protection on Tom’s family home and swarming into his house. Tom must defend himself against The Master’s warlock followers, and The Master, in a great big attention-grabbing battle of magick.

This second book in the trilogy also ends with a cliffhanger. And, a big stack of questions, that hopefully will be answered in the third book. Like…Why didn’t Professor Thunderbolt return with reinforcements? Who is Emmet really? And what does he want? Who is the The Master? Who are Tom’s true friends and who are not? There are other questions that come up toward the end, too. But I don’t want to spoil the suspense for you, so, you will just have to read the book yourself to formulate your own questions.

The storyline is fascinating, though not as fast paced as the first book. But the story builds to a gripping ending when one of Tom’s Harding friends is kidnapped. Tom and his friends go looking for her and find the Master’s lair and prepare to rescue her. Hence the cliffhanger I mentioned earlier, making me want to read the next book in the series. Now.

Lethal aspects to himself and to his magic, as well as limitations and areas he needs guidance become painfully clear

he faces the possibilities of being a target with a use that might exceed the usefulness of his own life, as well as surprises about his capabilities, and a need for direction, as well as a need for active involvement in making choices about directions for his training and responsibilities to his family and friends

heavy challenges indeed for such a young man

I enjoyed book 2 of the "Blood Magick Trilogy" series. In this story, Tom and his family were being attacked by others, and Tom wrestled with the decision about which was the correct path to follow. I liked Tom and his character arc, and I liked the friendships that helped to support Tom on his journey. I'm fascinated by some of the newer characters and curious as to what their role in Tom's life will be. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, where I hope all my questions are answered. Zane Boyer's narration was great and added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Blood Magick (Blood Magick Trilogy Book 2), my sixth read from author Marie-Hélène Lebeault. A spinoff of The Evers Series continuing to focus on Tom Callahan who was introduced in that series. An entertaining read! Zane Boyer's narration, though different from Valerie Rose Lohman's narration on the Evers series none-the-less makes a good book enjoyable, the accents he affects help bring the characters to life. I can't imagine reading the book without these accents. I look forward to reading more from this author, in fact Blood Legacy (Blood Magick Trilogy Book 3) is next on my TBR list. I received a free Audible copy of this book, and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Tom’s mother and sister may be safe but he stayed behind to defend their home against the Master and his minions. Will his Blood Magick be strong enough to keep the wards from falling until help arrives?

This series is just getting better and better! The action never slows and the suspense keeps building. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Middle books in a trilogy can be tricky as they have to a) answer some questions from the first book without revealing all, b) move the plot along in new directions and c) show us character growth that will allow a resolution in book three. This second book in the Blood Magick series successfully accomplishes all of these tasks. Tom is learning to use and control his powers in order to eventually successfully confront and defeat The Master while also dealing with the normal stresses any maturing young man has to deal with. We get more insight into how this world works and a great set up for the final book. Can't wait for that confrontation/resolution.
