Vanity and other Monsters: mm dragon shifter romance (Mytho Investigations Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 201 ratings

All the lines of fate have been pulling Edra Tendric to LA. It is the last place he wants to go, leaving his mate Inspector Jordan Kells in San Francisco to deal with a fractured mytho population and an increasingly tense political situation. Someone wanted Edra removed as Mytho Liaison, and they got their way.

With the exposure of their relationship, Jordan has to negotiate the fallout at work and among the people he called friends. As the elves arm themselves and favors are called in, Jordan will need to decide where he stands because doing the right thing doesn’t always mean following the law he swore to uphold.

Being a lesser dragon’s mate isn’t all mating flights and fun. Not when his mate is the Knight of a city on the brink of war.

Book 4 in the gay urban fantasy crime series that follows Jordan and Edra as they solve crime and figure out how to improve mytho and human relations. For readers who like dragon shifters and fated mates romance.

It’s frustrating to see Edra and Jordan being manipulated by their superiors and sad that no one really cares about their wellbeing. The LA vampires are scary and Edra has no back up. I love the dragons a little more as they seem to be the only ones care enough to help the lesser dragon. I’m devouring this series and I am so tempted to take time off just to finish it. It’s that good.

Dang can these two ever catch a break? It’s like they get no time to fully relax into their relationship. This one has a little more world building. We learn about the conspiracy that has been happening in the background this entire time, and we watch these two get closer even apart. We see J fully step into the Mythos world and getting a better understanding of his mate. Lots of stuff happening you don’t know who to trust. On to the next.

I loved it. It was interesting getting to know the differences in the species. Edra going to LA to do what is asked of him and Jordan doing his job and becoming a Knight in his mate’s absence. I loved seeing more Greater Dragons in this book.

I’m not a fan of cliffhangers and this one has a bit of one at the end. I’ll put off judgement depending on how long of a wait it is until the next book.

Mytho Edra Tendric is off to Los Angeles to negotiate with vampires, a situation that was manipulated by unknown individuals. Separated from his mate, Detective Jordan Kells, Edra is not happy. Jordan has been left behind to handle the fall out that came when his relationship with Edra was revealed. Now the two men are becoming aware that there are hidden forces affecting them in both LA and at home.

Edra and Jordan are amazing heroes, doing what is right and not what is easy. What they face and overcome would be too much for many others. Jordan is left to learn a new political climate involving mythos while Edra does the same only just with vampires. They are truly a case of continuing on no matter what happens. The ending sure does prove that. Their work is not done at this point.

I love these two together. They really seem to fit. Their bond is growing and respect is building for them. They have a ways to go and the next book should prove highly intriguing.

I’ve read many of TJ Nichols’ series and my favorite by far is the Mytho set of books. The newest is Vanity and Other Monsters. It was such an exciting story, with Edra facing an unknown danger in LA and Jordan dealing with the media frenzy over his relationship with Edra, that I read it in one sitting. Without giving anything away, Edra’s situation away from his support network was harrowing. It was interesting to see a familiar character in a new setting. It was also rewarding to see Jordan step into being the main point of contact for all things paranormal in San Francisco. Needless to say, he was more than capable of the job. I had hoped that with the book titles involving the seven deadly sins there would be seven books in this richly imagined world. Sadly, it looks as though there is only one more. A minor irritant for me was the use of Australian words in a novel set in the US, even one with the addition of a paranormal world merging with our reality.

This is book four in the Mythos series. Another good addition to the series. So much is going on and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what's going to happen next.

The Mytho series is definitely my favorite by TJ Nichols and needs to be read in order to understand the context and characters. Besides the amazing world building and characters that definitely keep growing on me, what this one did well is show both how Edra and Jordan are both committed to their relationship and how they deal with being on their own. Edra is sent to LA to deal with some vampire business and Jordan is left to work on his cases and the mind field that has been mythos politics. I liked that Jordan is fully in and we see how much he's learned and yet how little he actually knows. Lines are getting drawn both between humans and mythos and there is something major building on the horizon. I almost wish all of these were out already so I could just shut myself away for the weekend and devour the entire thing but unfortunately I still have to wait for the next to be releases!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous book in this series

I am loving this series so much, I can't wait to start book 5.
The connection between Edra and Jordan is growing so much stronger on all levels and I am really enjoying seeing it transform the way it is.
This book had plenty going on and I don't want to put it down, needing to know what was coming next.
The politics between the Mythos is interesting and complicated, and Jordan is only just starting to understand the ins and outs of everything.
Now he's a knight I'm sure he's in for plenty more lessons.
Edra's trip to LA didn't work out they way they hoped and they are in for a lot more trouble in the next book. I can't wait to see what happens next.
