Off the Deep End: A MM Sports Romance Kindle Edition
I’m the nerdy reporter. He’s the hotshot diver. We’re complete opposites. There’s no way this will ever work.
My entire life, I’ve had one dream. To be the best reporter I can be and tell stories that matter. When the opportunity to shadow an Olympian lands in my lap, I’m determined to rise to the occasion. But nothing can prepare me for Wes Cooper in all his glory.
Wes is the cocky athlete who has no interest in having a green reporter standing in his way. Or asking too many questions. Which is fine. I’m here to do my job, not be his friend.
But when he extends an olive branch, I start to rethink things.
There’s clearly more to him than meets the eye. The more time I spend with him, the more I want to know. Professionally, of course.
Except when he looks at me like that, I feel all kinds of unprofessional things.
I’m a goner.
Off the Deep End is a standalone, MM romance with no cheating and a HEA guaranteed!

Wes is starting his journalistic career and can't quite figure out what makes this piece on a local olympic hopeful special. That is until they meet. The sparks in this book were hot. I loved that there was no miscommunication or third act break up. The plot revolved around the love story of the two men and how they became a couple with the Olympics as a backdrop. As a former diver this book made me smile. I was smirking especially when Wes asked Finn what score he would rate the dive and was told a 10.
If you are looking for a sweet romance that will make you smile and your toes curl pick this one up. I really enjoyed my audiobook and suggest reading it that way if you have a chance.

If you are looking for a sweet romance that will make you smile and your toes curl pick this one up. I really enjoyed my audiobook and suggest reading it that way if you have a chance.
Wes is a pro swimmer and while on his journey back after an injury, his coach decides to get him some good publicity before qualifying for the Olympics gets underway. When a relatively green journalist is assigned the story, Wes is not amused. But he’s surprised when Finn turns out not to be exactly what he expected. As time passes, they become friends and their attraction grows. Falling for your subject is not the most professional thing to do, but resisting Wes is harder than Finn ever bargained for.
This audiobook was a treat. J.F. Harding and Tim Paige are two of my favorite male narrators and the contrast in their voices was perfect for these two characters. Their differences really distinguish the characters and give each an individual life of their own. Both J.F. and Tim give strong performances with humor, emotion, and passion. You’ll feel like you’re right next to Wes and Finn as they fall in love. If you love a sweet and steamy romance, I would definitely recommend this audiobook.
The overall story and characters were fine, but there were so many odd choices when it came to wording (eg “it was *like* I ___” but describing something that literally actually happened, or actions just not making sense. I annotated way more than I should need to) and emphasis/plot points.
The most stark example of the writing just not making sense is Wes being up on the 10 meter platform, having a panic attack, and then suddenly Finn is there (even though he’d been terrified to go up there before, no mention is made then or at any point later of how he went up there for the first time), and somehow a few scraps of dialogue later they’re both in some room alone off the near the weight/locker rooms. I went back and reread 3 times trying to figure out where I missed them climbing down from 10 meter diving platform with Finn basically carrying Wes—he wasn’t aware of much so not sure how he’d have climbed back down the ladder being /that/ out of it without falling. There wasn’t even an acknowledgment like “how did I get down” or “wow I’m suddenly back at floor level”
and it actually really really frustrates me because that should have been caught in editing, even if all the other inconsistencies/plot holes/nonsense moments weren’t. This was supposed to be a big emotional pivotal scene and all I could think about while reading it was how tf “scrawny lanky” Finn carried massive “muscle god” Wes down a 3 story ladder
It seemed to be setting up for a big deal out of their careers being in conflict, but it was hardly an issue after all (which I don’t mind, since I hate the whole “we could nEVeR be together we’re sOOo different” thing, but then don’t try to make that the main conflict if the characters themselves forget about it immediately).
The ethics of a journalist sleeping with their subject was only addressed towards at the end in an offhand way, and then again right before the end with a dramatic “I thought I was about to be fired” like did you really think that?? because we got zero worry/thoughts/plans/emotions/any thoughts about that being a real concern. It also absolutely should have gotten him taken off the assignment—not disclosing that you’re dating the person you’re writing about (especially in such a favorable light) to both your boss and your audience is unethical.
Didn’t feel that strongly about either MC; they were fine, but didn’t feel that invested in any parts of their relationship or career paths/journeys. The POV voices were indistinguishable, honestly.
Had a few moments that made me almost let out a chuckle-adjacent-breath. It wasn’t terrible, just frustrating to have a story avoid some of the more annoying tropes by setting up false conflicts that go nowhere and fizzle out.
I appreciate the diving puns sprinkled in (at least I hope they were intentional)
