3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 78 ratings

Sam hasn’t seen Kevin in two thousand years.

Sam casts a soulmate summoning spell and it delivers none other than Kevin, his warlock ex from two thousand years ago.It turns out that Sam and Kevin have been living in the same rural Connecticut town for over a century, but never ran into each other. Go figure.

Sam is a good warlock but Kevin’s always been evil. He spends his days enchanting thunderstorms and making potholes for fun. The last time they dated, Kevin bewitched the villagers into zombies and built himself a castle.

This might be a good time to mention that Sam has a weakness for bad boys.

He knows that dating Kevin again is a bad idea, but the spell was foolproof. If he doesn’t want to spend eternity alone, he’s gotta make it work with him.

This is a HEA, enemies to lovers paranormal small-town male/ male romance. TW: Kevin is an evil warlock, and uses animal parts in his spells.

This is the first book in the Warlock of Westland Series:

  1. The Warlock of Westland
  2. The Warlock of Westland 2: The Witch of Westland
  3. The Warlock of Westland 3: The Warlock of New Randolph

Great fun to read. A few spelling and syntax errors. Well worth reading the series, I think. Will be buying the rest.

Kevin did some super twisted things. The shelter animals were my breaking point, though. He's genuinely horrific. I couldn't really relate to either main character or bring myself to like either of them.

The author's writing style definitely shows promise, though. I plan to pop back in in a few years to read his stuff once he's got a few more books under his belt.

This book is seriously a lot of fun. It wasn't what I was expecting or in the mood for at the time, but it really pulled me in. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely read the rest of the series.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book with main characters so puerile. I’ve come to expect warlocks to use magic indiscriminately, but The Warlock of Westland by Jack Brightside takes it to a new level, which I can’t reveal without a spoiler. I found myself entertained by the juvenile antics of Sam and Kevin, the good and evil warlock respectively. Part of what made them fun to read is that neither is an extreme example of their trope. Sam has enough foibles to make him likable and while Kevin embodies much of the bad of stockbrokers and then some, he is not irredeemably evil. There was only one thing he did that was on my do not read/do not watch list for books and movies. However, it’s clear from the ending that such unpleasant activities will not continue in the future. I received a copy of The Warlock of Westland by Jack Brightside from Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I rated this three and a half stars, but remembering my grade school math, that rounds up to four.

This is a mm paranormal romance with magic and oddities. I liked this book better than “the Billionaire’s Soulmate” but the author writes in a rather confusing manner. I can’t tell which paragraph has which point of view. Who is thinking in their head right now? There’s a lot of thinking too which had me re-reading passages more than once to figure out what was going on. Just like the last book I read by this author, it has good bones but it hurts my head to follow the spastic lines to a complete thought.

I really enjoyed the start of the story. Had an Alice Winters funny bickering vibe with the evil character having just a bit of a good nature. And then we found out what was in the freezer and I couldn’t read it anymore. There was just no redeeming the character after that. Not sure what the author was thinking.

Sam and Kevin are both warlocks. They are, however, living very differently. Sam is a good guy who is hardworking and down to earth. Kevin is a stockbroker who is all about himself. Many, many, many years ago they had a thing. But several hundreds of years have passed and they have not been together. Still, different as they are they appear to be meant to be together. And it is likely the fact that they are good and not so good that makes them good together. Which is good because in this story they have to team up together to hunt down and capture a ghost. A good first introduction to this rather interesting pair. I am now looking forward to reading more in the next books and seeing how they develop as a couple.

This book takes 'opposites attract' to a whole new level. Sam, a good warlock, and Kevin, an evil (or at least very selfish) warlock had a thing 2,000 years ago...and Sam still feels it. Now, they must work together to stop a ghost that Kevin set free. Sounds crazy, but it really worked. Kevin was more like a kind of Loki character to me, more of a prankster just for the fun of it, but definitely very self-centered and selfish. It made me wonder what Sam saw in him at first (and even later on), but together they made me laugh out loud. The story was very entertaining and kept me flipping pages to see what would happen next. I am looking forward to the next book.

I only got as far as 27% with this before I gave up on it completely. There is a plot but it does not seem to advance at a good pace. At this point I was expecting a little more to happen than what was. It's silly the way it's written and the dialogue reminds me of two kids talking. Not a very good book. Would not recommend to friends.
