The Amazing Date is a book that reality show loving readers will enjoy. Taking a spin on the Amazing Race reality tv show, this book mixes the high energy of an over-the-top reality show with a romance that will hit you with all the feels.

Rylee and Roberto have history. A passionate love affair that ended too soon and with a tragic ending. They both have moved on without each other but an accident has them competing as a team in a reality tv show. They do not get along at all….Rylee is Type A and Roberto is the opposite. But if they want to win they have to learn to work together…..and maybe put the past behind them.

This book is all witty banter, high energy, devious castmates and watching two people realize that their love for each other never really ended. It was such a enjoyable read that I didn’t want it put down because I was sucked into the game completely…..just like reality TV does to me to. I not only had to see how Rylee and Roberto were interacting with each other but just the entire drama of the show was captivating.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and if you are looking for a really fun enemies to lovers/best friends brother romance with amazing chemistry and TONS OF STEAM then I guarantee that you will enjoy this book.

So I’m not a big reality TV watcher. But my mom happens to LOVE one particular Amazing show that features teams racing around the country. Thanks to her I’m familiar with this type of race setup. Throw in the second chance, best friend’s brother, and enemies to lovers troupes and it’s a perfect romance. I really enjoyed Roberto and Rylee’s story.

What an incredible story!! If you are looking for a book that will put a smile on your face, you NEED to read this book. I literally laughed out loud many times reading this book with Rylee & Roberto’s banter and bickering. Mel Walker delivers a dynamic story testing the characters in ways we could never have imagined. This is the perfect enemies to lovers & best friends brother story that also incorporates a fun competition that has the couple racing around multiple cities completing challenges. I loved the reference to Zach from Jackson’s Love, (Lake Hope series #3) and the restaurant he worked at prior to moving to Destiny Falls. I highly recommend this book and definitely this author (and to Mel…this NEEDS to be a series! Gabby & Luis need their stories too! 🤣) I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This was a really fun and fast paced enemies to lovers story. I found the concept to be interesting and Mel Walker’s infusion of culture and scenery really made you feel like you were along for every minute of the competition.

“She’s in my soul.”

This is a closed door romance but it doesn’t lack any of the emotion or passion you’d expect. It’s love and growth and acceptance and all the feelings in between. So happy I found this one!

This book is well written in the structure and editing aspect. There are several great scenes in the story. It might be the fact that I don’t read a lot of YA books, but it seemed to have unnecessary drama at times. Maybe that’s why I don’t read a lot of them. If you are a fan of The Amazing Race then you should definitely check this out.
Roberto wasn’t bad at all as a hero. However, Rylee wasn’t very likeable as a heroine. She was very hot and cold. Mostly cold. She had improved toward the end, but I had a hard time believing anyone would want to be in a relationship with her.

Ok so this was my first Mel Walker Read and it is and absolute amazing read if you are and Amazing Race fan and a Romantic you will want to Read this one. It draws you in from the beginning and keeps you wanting more even at the end. Definitely 5 stars.

Mel, you’ve made me so happy with this story, which includes two of my favorite things: Puerto Rico (because you guessed it! I’m Puerto Rican) and the Amazing Race. I love all the references of my beautiful island. It was so much fun to integrate that with one of my favorite shows ever, the Amazing Race. I watched that show from the beginning and absolutely loved it.

Roberto and Rylee are teamed up to race around the world just like my favorite reality show and even though they haven’t spoken or been part of each other’s lives for four years they do it for the one person that binds them, her best friend and Roberto’s sister, Gabby who was injured before the race began and couldn’t accompany Rylee. Roberto and Rylee fell in love in Puerto Rico but their relationship ended disastrously four years prior. Now they are thrown together in some peculiar circumstance and must put all their issues aside to work as a team. Along the way they hash out the hurtful issues that separated them and purge themselves of deeply buried emotions to find love again.

I was on the edge of my seat after every leg of the race was over. The characters were amazing, even the evil twins who were so, well, evil and super competitive. It was nice to see them get theirs in the end. haha The older married couple were so sweet and laid back which wouldn’t really work well in the actual Amazing Race but it was fun to follow them along. It was a super fun read with exhilarating “Amazing Race” scenes and a great HEA!
