Season Starter: Summer Loving Book One Kindle Edition

Jessie

The last time I saw the man—jerk—of my dreams, he fired me. Now, he’s back in town to renovate my bed and breakfast before the tourist season starts. I might have gotten over my grudge, but I sure haven’t moved on since him. Harrison is the ideal hunk, or he was back when we were young and stupid. My contractor is still sexy, possibly sweet, and easily keeps up with my sarcasm…but he’s a package deal this time. He’s back with a daughter and a chip on his shoulder, neither of which should matter to me. But the more I see him on the job, each time we clash and fall into our thrilling push-and-pull, I have to wonder if there’s something fresh to start with him before the summer kicks off.

Harrison

Of all people, it just had to be Jessie Green buying this old dump. Imagine my shock that the feisty, gorgeous, stubborn girl I fell in love with in high school is the owner of our town’s former brothel. Her plans for a B&B are a nearly impossible race against time—doable, but it’s quite the hustle. With the tables turned—her hiring me—it’d be easier if I didn’t have to see her day in and day out, worrying if she can overlook our past, wondering if she tastes as good as she looks, wishing I could have a take two. Hell, even a take one.

Their pining for each other was so cute! I was waiting for one of them to give in and when they did, it was explosive.

Hilarious and fun. I enjoyed this lighthearted story that was laugh out loud funny. However, sensitive issues regarding bullying and a single parent home are addressed. The following quotes refer to Mel, Harrison's ten year old daughter. From Jessie, "This kid was just a big old dump of baggage and sadness." From Harrison, "I dropped off Mel at school—a ritual that was more like delivering a lamb to the slaughter." These quotes reflect Mel's moods when we meet her. I enjoyed the descriptive writing like this throughout the story. Plenty of comic relief eased the characters' stress.
Renovating a previous brothel with a small budget and a looming deadline in order to transform it into a successful B&B sets up our characters for a money pit type of adventure. Throw in a genius ten year old with an encyclopedic vocabulary, crazy friends with no filters and a penchant for inappropriate comments, high school bullies who grew up to be adult bullies with bully children, and Jessie and Harrison who make each other crazy, and that is a recipe destined to produce a delicious intellectual and emotional feast. Not to mention the ice cream incidents and food fights. So what if there are some editing errors occasionally. This is a fun story. There are some steamy scenes too, so reader beware. Just the preview of the next book had me in stitches. Can hardly wait to read it. This by far is one of my favorite summer reads.

So fixer up stories are not exactly my favorite as they all have the same story line. That being said, this dragged on a bit for me but others may enjoy more if this subject is of interest.

"Season Starter" by Amabel Daniels was a fun enemies-to-lovers romance between aspiring B&B owner Jessica "Jessie" Green and contractor Harrison Monroe, who had recently returned to his hometown for a fresh start with his precocious 10-year-old daughter, Mel. He certainly didn't expect his company's first client to be Jessie, the girl he'd been forced to fire years ago when they were both teenagers working for the local ice cream parlor. Out of desperation, Jessie set aside her grudge because Harrison was the only contractor available to take on the renovation of her B&B, which had to be ready to open in only five weeks. If it wasn't, Jessie's purchase of the historic property would be nullified and it would be torn down and turned into a parking lot by her old high school rival.

As Jessie and Harrison spent time together working on the renovation, the chemistry between them became harder and harder to ignore. I really enjoyed the slow burn as they worked through the unresolved feelings from their past, and when they finally acted on them, it was totally worth the wait. That said, I wish the character development had been a bit more in depth for both Jessie and Harrison because I still had a number of questions about them at the end of the story. For example, what happened to Harrison's parents that led to his adoptive father Mikey gaining custody of him and his sister Nina?

Overall, I enjoyed "Season Starter" and would recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to continuing the series.

Lots of laughs, great banter and fun characters make this an entertaining read. Jessie is over her head wanting to turn an old brothel/sex club into a B and B but she's determined to save the house even if it means working with her ex teenage crush/mortal enemy. Harrison is back in town to restart his life with his daughter, opening a renovation business with his dad. He's not ready to work with one of his biggest mistakes. Fun situation, good friends, chemistry and a cute story what more could you ask for? Can't wait to jump into the next story!

I don't typically go for single dad romance troupes but got this through stuff your Kindle day and absolutely loved it

I loved the characters in this story, Jessi and Harrison had chemistry to spare, but then there are also the supporting roles of Heather, Evie, Logan and of course Mel- Harrison's young daughter. The story line was pretty unique, I mean yeah its a renovation love story, but it's not every day that you read about a haunted Brothel being turned into a B&B. Some of the items that had to be removed from said Brothel were both intriguing and comical. I adored how everyone rallied around Mel and not only enjoyed her spouting odd facts, but also raced to jot down the words they didn't know or understand the meaning of for use later. I must admit there were a couple I had to look up. I look forward to reading more of this series and author.

It’s a nice quick read with a subtlety of steam. Not quite on the same level as Icebreaker but definitely close!

‘Facing her now, I was struck with that same bolt of lust I’d always felt near her. More so now because she didn’t look like jailbait anymore.’

Please reconsider referring to people as jailbait or putting characters into situations where they’re attracted to someone younger than is legal or appropriate. This quote was found 10% into the book, and I couldn’t go any further after this.
