Claire Beckett and the Black Order (Claire Beckett: Protector of Crescent City Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 86 ratings

A secret society for witches.

I’d always just thought those were for privileged college students, but it turns out I was wrong. Again.

Not to mention my half-sister, Nina, is in town claiming she’s hearing voices. If only there was an easier way to break her into the paranormal world than just telling her our family tree consists of witches and still to be determined paranormals.

I’ve survived a shapeshifter attack, nearly been lunch for a murdering vampire, and now I’ve stumbled onto The Black Order, the small group of powerful witches who secretly control the Shadowmoon Coven.

Heath warns me about getting closer to them, but solving a murder to learn more about my mom’s past is worth the risk.

I just hope I can make it out without pledging my soul.

So much is going on in this series! Totally binge worthy, you won't want to put it down!

*note- series should be read in order

When Claire and the Paranormal Department in the Crescent City PD suddenly have a rash of mysterious deaths to investigate, she doesn’t know that it will introduce her to a world that hits pretty close to home.

More secrets are revealed in this book, which picks up shortly after the end of the previous book. Claire learns a lot about both her mother, and the paranormal world, and even a little bit about her own magic.
She’s definitely growing as a character, not making nearly as many mistakes, although she has a horrible memory 😂 and can’t seem to remember much about her friends!

An enjoyable series, which improves with each book. Recommended for paranormal mystery lovers.

Our heroine has a lot of secrets in her past, not necessarily ones that she is keeping, but ones that have been kept from her. And discovering those secrets comes with a price that might be difficult to pay.

This is book three of the series, but it does pretty well as a standalone. The essential bits are covered early on and I had no problems picking up here.

This is an urban fantasy story with witches, werewolves (i.e. shifters) and other such beasties. The story is well written and easy to read, although it is perhaps a bit slow at times. Fortunately, I found those lulls were balanced by some fast paced action now and then, so it all balances out. The characters are well developed and only get more interested as we learn about our heroine and her lineage. Overall, I found this to be a highly enjoyable story and I look forward to going back to the earlier books.

Highly recommended

Claire is a detective for the paranormal agency. New to the position, Claire is still ironing out all aspects of her job. She has gained massive headway with those that she works with. Getting to know the personalities of those around her, readers will love their banter and sass.
Perhaps, Claire's biggest complement is that she takes no crap from anyone. She's mouthy, and pushes the buttons of her protector, and the Mayor, Heath. Talk about sexual chemistry, passion, and likeness, these two are just barreling toward a heated exchange. Claire is not afraid to admit she has feelings towards Heath. Readers will keep this secret, right?
Claire's present case takers her out to bruja lands. As she tries to find out more about her abilities, Claire once again searches through the varied information her mother has left. However, it does not prepare her for the the demands put on her by the brujas.
Readers will enjoy this second book by Chase. I am a huge fan of this series. Well done!

Molasses could move faster than the romance in this series. I thought I would get shifter Olympic and got secret society instead.

Book 3...witches! So Claire is finding out more and more about her mother's past, her father, her sister and herself...including increasing powers...coming to Crescent City has somehow set this all in motion.
More murder and mayhem, more tvary symbols to see and learn. Heath and Claire seem to be getting closer. Her sister, Nina, show up in town. There is a lot pulling Claire in different directions, but, if it were me, I'd want to sit down, ignore everything else and pour through my mother's stuff!
What will Claire find next! Way to keep us enthralled!

She has been through so much already and now her half sister wants her help. How can she help them? Will she be able to fit in with the new group? What is going on? See what she finds out

Back in Crescent City, Claire is getting comfortable with her new life; exploring her mother’s cabin, enjoying some slow time at work, and trying to come to terms with her fears about the escaped shapeshifter who is after her. A series of new murders leads Claire to bruja lands where there seems to be an equal number of new questions about herself for every answer she’s able to uncover. As always, Heath is around for backup and her sister Nina is in town with her own problems. This is a slower moving series, with everything building up bit by bit and I enjoy the change of pace. As an aside, I love the naming convention for the titles! I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
