Stroke The Flame (Her Elemental Dragons Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 3,027 ratings

Four sexy dragon shifters. A huntress with a dark past. A bond that could save the world.

I’ve spent my entire life running from my past and staying out of trouble. That’s how I’ve kept alive ever since my parents were killed by the Black Dragon, who’s ruled the world under her oppressive talons for as long as anyone can remember.

But it’s hard to keep a low profile when four handsome strangers turn up in your village claiming you’re destined to save the world. According to them, they’ve been chosen by the gods to become elemental dragons—and I’m their mate.

Which means one day I’ll be the most powerful dragon of all, able to control all four elements. Assuming I can unlock my powers first…by getting intimate with each of my sexy mates.

Auric, the clever prince. Jasin, the cocky soldier. Slade, the protective blacksmith. Reven, the mysterious assassin. And me. We’re the only ones who can bring balance to the world and overthrow the Black Dragon—if she doesn’t tear us to shreds first.

STROKE THE FLAME is the first book in a COMPLETE steamy fantasy series where the men know how to share!

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were all well fleshed out. We're given just enough information about each one to allow some mystery to remain and provide room to learn more as the books progress. I enjoyed Kira as a FMC as she wasn't overly annoying and was very kind. I am also really excited to learn more about the other mates' pasts as they give little tidbits throughout the book.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were loveable and the story full of suspense. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is some grammar issues and a little repetitiveness. This was a delightful and fun read.

Kids and 4 vastly different men are chosen for a journey that will ultimately make then mates with the power to save the world from the rule of the Black Dragon. All of them have doubts about their own selection and if they can do this. But they have a bond and it's getting stronger. Can't wait for the next story

Personally for me this book took a lot to get into and it just didn’t have enough to maintain my interest. A lot of description, but not really much depth to getting to know the men. Toward the end of the book some of them are already feeling love towards her but we have had no tension, no relationship building nothing. We barely know these men and are thrust into a relationship with them. Everyone is keeping secrets.

Then they need to travel the realms, which is fine, except it takes the entire book to just get to the fire realm. Along the way they have some Dragon spottings but nothing major. No big event that was a climax. It wasn’t until about 94% of the book where things finally got interesting. But not enough for me to continue.

I need some humor, some warmth, in my readings and this didn’t have it. It was written in a past tense present tense thing but it was an active thing happening on the page. It isn’t wrong per se but it feels wrong reading it for me. When I read it aloud it does sound fine so perhaps it’s the way my brain translates it but for this reason I had difficulty with the book. In addition there is very little of Kira that really gives us an inner monologue aside from her fear of fire, her feelings for the men and some various other things. I just haven’t seen anything that makes her great.

I was struggling to connect to the book. It’s not that the characters aren’t fleshed out, it’s that the writing for me is lacking the depth needed to convey their different personalities. When the men were first introduced aside from Jasin I couldn’t tell them apart or remember who was who.

This world is also not well explained. Nor what magic is actually available. Does everyone have magic? Elementals? Are they people? Are there other Dragons or just the ruling people and now Kira and her mates? Things were not well explained for me.

Oh my horns and wings! I love this book. It's a fantasy, reverse harem romance with an emphasis on the five elements. Each element - earth, air, water, fire, and spirit - is embodied by a deity, a section of this fabulous world, and a human-dragon who is a divine avatar. There is a ton of fast-paced action, friction between the main characters, and a bunch of villains.

I'm in love with the world-building. Each area has a biome or geological feature that embodies its element. While the main characters - Kira, Auric, Jasin, Reven, and Slade - also have personalities that match their element, they are fascinating people with back stories and individual personalities.

I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

Hardly any typos!

I'm a sucker for reverse harems and dragon-themed stories, and Stroke the Flame ticked both boxes! I really liked how Kira was strong-willed and able to stand up for herself. That is sometimes rare in this genre, unfortunately. While I like the guys protecting her, she was not afraid to take up a bow herself and kick some butt. I also appreciated that she was eventually able to accept this wacky role she was thrown into without too much of a fit. It helped us see some good development between her and the guys earlier on ;)

Auric and Jasin are both completely adorable and I love that they were pretty much fine with being connected to Kira for the rest of their lives from the moment they met her. I also found myself loving Reven (darn bad boys, drawing my in again) but it will take a little more time for me to really get to know Slade, as I don't tend to be drawn to the more protective, quiet types. But I have a strong feeling by the end of the next few books he'll be on my love list too.

Overall, I really liked the story and the characters kept me entertained until the end. I love that we had a couple chapters from each of the guy's perspectives, as I always want to know what they're thinking about everything as well. I can't wait to see where the future books take Kira and her men!

This is my second RH novel and while there was no *physical steam* between multiple characters at once, Elizabeth did a great job of building the scene with their thoughts, feelings and physical touch. I am blown away and so excited for the next. Jasin keeps you on your toes, the douche you grow to love, and the one who is not afraid to have his heart on his sleeve. Auric, ugh a mysterious man who you learn about as he develops. The way he loves I know has to be sensual. Slade, big ole giant who protects, can be touching, but has a darkness with him. And then Reven, ugh, he pulls my heart through the mud. But god he’s the most mysterious, brooding, PROTECTIVE, one of them all. I can’t wait to start book 2.

Not going to lie, I didn’t have high hopes when I first downloaded this book. I thought it the character building was going to fast for me to really appreciate each character. About 60% in though I realized that Elizabeth Briggs really knows how to slept her books up & create a good series. This book is all about fire and the first paring, Kira & Jasin. I can’t wait to read book 2 & see where the story takes off!

The story is good. There’s a lot of mystery and I’m super curious with their pasts. I can only imagined what will it be.
Not much to talk about the first book because everything it’s really premature but it promises really good things form the next ones!
