His Perfect Bride (The Brides of Paradise Ranch Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 4,024 ratings

How do you love a man who married you against his will?

For Corva Collier, life as a mail-order bride in the quirky town of Haskell, Wyoming is her last chance for escape. She longs for a peaceful life away from the darkness of her past where she can create the paintings that are close to her heart, and where she hopes she can grow to love her husband.

Franklin Haskell never planned to marry. What woman would want a man who was crippled due to his own arrogance? But when he is offered the chance to help a woman in crisis, he agrees to wed. Corva is so much more than he expected, and when a baseball game gives her the chance to shine, he loses his heart.

The game of love has never been so hard to play…or so worth winning.

Merry Farmer draws you in with her wonderful wit and characters. The story takes several twists and turns. The couple certainly help each other to heal.

His Perfect Bride is a fast-paced little novel, and I read it pretty quickly with much enjoyment.
Corva is a mail order bride from an abusive background, and despite a few triggers, she's wholesome and eager to please. Franklin suffered from a crippling accident ten years before, and walks around in leg braces, a cane, and the worry that his new bride would find him lacking.
Together, they built each other up to have more confidence, and fell in love in the process. The love scene was steamy, and the ending sweet. It was well-written and fun, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short, satisfying HEA read.

There is nothing I like more than reading a book where the characters come to life. Ordinarily, I try to stay away from romances where the hero on the cover has lost his shirt, but I was delightfully surprised. The characters are developed enough so you can suspend your belief and agree that a mail order bride and her intended can fall in love at first sight. The plot, which is at the risk of becoming trite, has new life breathed into it, even if some of the actions aren’t historically accurate (I still can’t wrap my head around a shy 19th century woman with little self esteem running bases because her husband can’t run).

I found a new author to follow. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

This is a sweet, but fairly predictable story. Franklin and Corva both come to their marriage with emotional baggage, but they work through their issues pretty quickly as soon as they start talking to each other, a process helped along by an entire host of benevolent neighbors and family members. In fact, other than the main couple, everyone is either purely good and generous or purely mean and selfish, with no real complexities or nuance. The book could also have used a bit more effort on research. If your going to talk about the food, make sure it's appropriate to the time and place. Spinach pie and pasta? It's Wyoming in the 1870s, not New York in the 1970s. Macaroni, maybe, if you want to stretch a bit, but definitely not "pasta". You want to make the point that they didn't just eat meat? Give them fruit pies and creamed onions and succotash and buttered peas. For me, mistakes like that are really distracting. The writing is pretty good, though, and Farmer's descriptions are strong enough to give you a really clear visual sense of the people and places. All in all, a pleasant if fluffy piece of writing.

Thank goodness for authors who have the sensitivity and compassion to continue to provide us with books that touch our hearts. Take a small Montana town, some caring adults, plus a home for abused and hopeless young women, then add a young man who has given up on ever having joy in his life, and you have the recipe for a wonderful book.
You won't want to miss this story and its characters!

I really liked "His Perfect Bride" by Merry Farmer. I liked the western setting and I liked both Corva and Franklin. Franklin wears braces on his legs, he can barely walk without them, he was badly injured in an accident about ten years ago. Franklin's problem is, he was once younger and foolish and caused the accident in which he got hurt. People have forgiven or forgotten the circumstances surrounding the accident, but he hasn't forgiven himself.
Franklin's aunt convinces him to send off for a mail-order bride, and Corva arrives. Corva came from a home for abused women. She lived with her uncle who was particularly nasty. She is a little frightened of men, but not of Franklin. She likes him, but he is so somber that she worries he doesn't like her and regrets marrying her.
There is some passion in this book, nothing over the top, but a little steamy. While I really liked the story and was drawn into the book, I felt like I wanted to know more about the main characters background. I almost felt like something was missing. But I highly recommend this book, it is a very good read - especially if you like western historical romances.

I love all kinds of books, except slasher stories. But this was a really wonderful story about two people who really needed each other but didn’t know it. Sometimes fate has a way of intervening and that’s just what happened here. But will two people who fear they have nothing to give ever find a common ground. For that answer, you will have to read the story.

Corva Collier comes to Haskell, Wyoming as a mail order bride. She has lived for awhile at a home for women who have been battered and abused. She looks forward to her new life with soon to be husband Franklin Haskell. Both Corva and Franklin have some healing to do in order to be able to truly love one another. It's a beautifully written story about a healing journey to love for Corva and Franklin.

A feel good story about two people beset with problems who turn out to complement each other well and find true love.
Corva and Franklin have complicated pasts and needed each other to bring out the best in each other and the people of the town were mostly behind them!
Great characters but I could do with a who's who to go with the book.
Looks as if It could be a great series.

I love how this love story introduces two lonely, damaged souls into a lifestyle of a growing town in the middle of Wyoming. They have never met but are married on her arrival to town.
However, some families and events reveal the tug of war between ranchers and certain women who are bullies and liars. No one is safe around those who think they are all powerful.

Merry farmer has written a beautiful book, it was better than summary written in Amazon. Story flows nicely, though set in different era, still very good.

I liked this one, but I've always enjoyed this author's works. The characters were fun, and the way the H and h came together in the end was believable for their premise - as a mail-order bride and groom. Fun story, would read more in the series.
