Love Potions (Warlocks MacGregor Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 4,078 ratings

A little magical mischief never hurt anyone until a love potion goes terribly wrong.

Magic, Mischief, and Kilts!

Erik MacGregor is from a line of ancient (and mischievous) Scottish warlocks. He isn’t looking for love. After centuries of bachelorhood, it’s not even a consideration… until he moves in next door to Lydia Barratt. It’s clear the beauty wants nothing to do with him, but he’s drawn to her and determined to win her over.

The last thing Lydia needs is an alpha male type meddling in her private life. Just because he’s gorgeous, wealthy, and totally rocks a kilt doesn’t mean she will fall for his seductive charms.

Humans aren’t supposed to know about his family’s magic or the fact he’s a cat shifter. It’s better if mortals don’t know the paranormal exists. But when a family prank goes terribly wrong, causing Erik to succumb to a love potion, Lydia becomes the target of his sudden and embarrassingly obsessive behavior.

They’ll have to find a way to pull Erik out of the spell fast when it becomes clear that Lydia has more than a lovesick warlock to worry about.

About the Series:
People know magic is fake--card tricks and illusions, magicians and entertainers. But there is an older magick, a powerful force hidden from modern eyes, buried in folklore and myths, remembered by the few who practice the old ways and respect the lessons of past generations.

The term "warlock" is a variation on the Old English word waerloga, primarily used by the Scots. It meant traitor, monster or deceiver. The MacGregors do not agree with how history has labeled their kind. To them, warlock means magick, family and immortality. This series is not a portrayal of modern-day witchcraft or those who hold such beliefs. MacGregors are a magickal class all their own.

I loved, loved Erik and Lydia’s fated mates, warlock-human romance. This is a heartwarming, hilarious and steamy romance full of relatable and lovable characters with a just touch of angst and mystery. The story will give you all the swoony swoons while also pulling at your heartstrings with all the emotions. Lydia is a human who runs a small business out of her home making natural lotions. She grew up with her grandmother who recently died. Everyone called her grandmother the witch on the hill. Erik is a warlock and a cat shifter who has come to Lydia’s small town to look at property for his clan family to move to. He buys the mansion up the hill from Lydia’s house. There is instant chemistry and attraction between them but Lydia is confused and embarrassed about her behavior around Erik. The more time they spend together, the weirder things become. Plus Erik’s siblings take a love potion practical joke a bit too far. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steamy scenes, laugh out loud moments, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, surprises, evil entities, magic, and heart squeezing love. I loved the insanity that is the MacGregors and am looking forward to reading more in this series.

I thought this was a good read. This book offers an enticing mix of romance, humor, emotion, drama, action and steam that I felt was beautifully accented by the paranormal twist added to it. I really liked Erik but for me, Lydia was only OK. This story had a certain cuteness to it that majorly appealed to me. I'll admit though that there were a couple of things that kind of bugged me or simply rubbed me the wrong way but nothing I found a deal breaker. Overall, I enjoyed it and look forward to checking out more of this series.

Brilliant, extremely funny full of never ending action with enough magical mayhem to keep
everyone entertained including the crazy Scottish characters.
Author Michelle Pillow is over flowing with her amazing imagination and inspirational worlds she creates for to to enjoy and be a part of.
Lydia and Eric take romantic soul mates to a whole new level, while Lydia tries her damdest to not be swayed or tricked by the magical warlock she cannot keep her hands off, his stubborn arrogance cheeky demeanour and natural charm continually find ways to lower her guards.
But considering the magical power Lydia suddenly finds she has over Eric its really hilarious watching how these two lovers continually find themselves up against each through a battle of wills.
Even though every day since meeting the. Clan her life has ended up battling some type
spiritual, magical or evil power all apparently flowing in one direction, towards her, Eric is able to get under her skin and almost immediately becomes in integral part of her mentally and emotionally
so we witness a continuing battle of wills between the two.
A magnificent storyline that keeps you glued to each pages along with the never ending battle of trying to rid their lives of the drama and danger that continually weaves itself into every positive step they take.
A fascinating whirlwind of mysterious adventures as these two intriguing people learn to deal with the intense emotional romantic enfolding them while supernatural entities use everything available to grab the power brewing around themselves and their love.
Definitely a worthwhile read that keeps you chuckling along with these fun loving characters.

LOVE POTIONS is the first story in Michelle Pillow's Warlocks MacGregor series. I have read many of Ms Pillow's Qurilixen stories and I especially enjoyed the Lords of Var and Dragon Lords series. Sadly, I did not think this had quite the depth and plot it needed. It is worth reading if you're looking for a quick story, that doesn't take itself too seriously. This book can be read as a standalone.

The Macgregors are a centuries old Scottish clan of warlocks who need to relocate frequently to keep their secrets safe from mortals. While checking out a new town to move to, Erik Macgregor is enchanted when he meets one of the citizens of the town. Later while viewing a mansion and property, he discovers the neighbor to be the lady he met earlier. As the property meets the Clan's requirements, he quickly purchases it. Lydia is not interested in a relationship but can't deny the Scot is attractive and mysterious. Unfortunately Erik takes a relationship shortcut and uses an spell on her and starts a landslide of humorous romantic events and failures.

I must point out that there is not a very syrong plot to this story and mostly centers around sexual suggestions during Erik's ineffective and inappropriate romancing of Lydia. However, there are a couple of steamy scenes.

MacGregor clan totally made this book as they are absolutely hilarious with their antics and pranking each other.  I will be reading the next book, Spellbound, to see if the plot improves while leaving the humor in.

I did an advanced reader review of book 4 for this series a few weeks ago, and I loved it, so I HAD to go back and start at the beginning. I’m so glad I did. This was fun. Genuinely fun to read. It had a great plot; wonderful characters, and I love the MacGregor family dynamics. I’ll be continuing the series pretty quickly from here because it was a true delight.

He has a lot of problematic behavior. Can't say more because Amazon says my review contained hate speech and didn't publish it. I just mentioned what happened in the book.

A fantastic book that introduces us to Erik Macgregor who is in the area looking for a house large enough for his family.
The Macgregors are a Scottish clan of Warlocks who are centuries old and unfortunately moving around is part of their lives.
Erik is enchanted by the neighbour who he sees when he views the property he quickly buys.
Lydia is not interested in a relationship but can't deny the scot is attractive and mysterious.
A love potion causes Erik to develop an obsession for Lydia but his attention is extreme and the prank is dangerous.
Can they reverse the effects?

This story was absolutely hilarious with his serenading and other strange behaviour.
It does become more serious but the mischief is a massive reason I loved this book so much.
I couldn't help but read on out of pure intrigue and eagerness which meant I binged the entire story.
So much happens that it is impossible to grow tired or weary even hours in.
This author has a talent for the fun and the romantic which makes this an ideal read for lovers of evident skill.
I highly recommend losing yourself in the Macgregor world with a family of crazies and a love story for each.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
