The Space Between Heartbeats Kindle Edition
Beautiful, wild-child, Nicole Tepper, is hit by a car and left for dead. But when she wakes the next morning, Nicole finds herself in bed without a scratch. Perhaps she was more intoxicated than usual, as her mother is giving her the silent treatment and her friends are ignoring her as well.
Things take a turn for the weird when Nicole soon discovers she is actually hovering between life and death. Her body is lying in the forest while her spirit is searching for anyone who can hear her. Unfortunately, the only person who can is Dale Finnigan, the guy she publicly humiliated with a sharp-tongued insult that has left him branded.
Desperate, Nicole has no choice but to haunt Dale and convince the freaked-out senior to help her. Will he find her body before it's too late? Or will the guy who tried to kill her with his car, beat him there and finish her off before anyone finds out?
This is a revised edition of The Space Between Heartbeats (previously published by Amazon Publishing and Alloy Entertainment LLC) and a new edition of Betwixt previously self-published by Melissa Pearl.

This story is a Great combo of Thriller, Romance, Intrigue! Nicole is a popular girl hanging with the wrong crowd at school, doing all sorts of bad things, so when she goes missing, her friends, parents, and boyfriend don't seem to care nor notice much. Her supposed friends actually make bets and joke about how she must've run away since Nicole has suggested it many times in the past. What they don't know is Nicole has become the victim of a Hit & Run during last night. She is somewhere off the road in the country left for dead. Nicole somehow awakes in her bed and gets ready for school as if it were any other day. She can't quite remember getting home and she thinks she must've blacked out. Nicole finds herself being ignored by her mother before she leaves for school, then at school by her friends, bf, even teachers. This is when Nicole starts to Freak out! Dale a boy at her school apparently is the only one who can hear and kind of see her a bit. Nicole feels awful since Dale has gotten a terrible nickname at school because of her need to fit in. She begs Dale to help her find her body before it's too late. Nicole starts to regret so many things and starts to learn from this terrible situation she's in. Dale teaches Nicole a lot about herself, how to forgive and just Live life for herself. She starts see who the real Dale is and comes to Care for him deeply as does Dale for Nicole. What Nicole doesn't know is Dale has suffered a tragedy too and came out with a Better view on life and tries to instill that into Nicole. Dale also doesn't realize that Nicole has too suffered a Great loss that she blames herself for it. I fell instantly in Love with Dale and his Sweetness! Both of these characters grow Immensely throughout this story & learn so much from one another. If you WANT to know how it all plays out... Go Buy yourself a copy!!
Like other readers / reviewers, it took me a while to warm up to Nicole. Dale, on the other hand, was so easy to like. I did enjoy getting to know these two and discover the real people behind the respective facades they put up for the rest of the world.
While Nicole and Dale both have gone through tragic and truly heartbreaking experiences and still have plenty of baggage to work through, there were enough lighthearted moments (Nicole coming to terms with her ghostly existence, for instance), fun and snarky banter, and - though sometimes quite dark - humor that made me smile way more often than I would have expected.
On top of that, there was the mystery to unravel of what really happened to Nicole (now THAT took some turns I didn't see coming!), plus the budding romance that provided some sweet (and sometimes funny) moments.
I loved it. Had a very hard time putting it down for long.
Reminded me of Slow Dance in Purgatory by Amy Harmon. Totally different stories, but if you enjoyed that book, I think you will like this one.

It reminded me of my teen reading years. I didn't know I missed the feeling.
