From the Author
I don't know about you, but they had me at "royal wedding" back when Diana and Charles had their fairytale marriage. (Let's ignore the fact that it was not at all a fairytale and practically ended in revenge fantasy...)I actually got to meet Prince Charles years ago when I was a photographer in Washington, DC. (back when we all still believed he and Diana had their Happily Ever After). No, he didn't not kidnap me and persuade me to help him not be forced into a marriage against his will (funny how he actually had been, though!). But he was rather charming, and far better-looking in person than he came across in pictures. It was fun dabbling in the rarified world of royalty and getting the briefest of glimpses into it, even if only for that brief time. Nevertheless, I have long loved a good royal escape romance, so thought it would be fun to create a modern-day royal series in the vein of the Princess Diaries, only for grown-ups. It's been great fun creating an actual country and this royal family and friends etc. It's been something different for me from a writing perspective to world-build as I have with this, and I hope you have a fun time visiting the royals and their friends in Monaforte!Jenny

I've had pieces appear in Ladies Home Journal, the Washington Post and on NPR's Day to Day. I joke that I honed my fiction writing skills while working as a publicist for a US Senator. Other jobs I've held have included: an orthodontic assistant (learning quite readily that I wasn't cut out for a career in polyester), a waitress (probably my highest-paying job), a TV reporter, a pre-obituary writer, and a photographer (once being Prince Charles' photographer in Washington!). I live in Virginia with my husband and a small menagerie; we have three grown children. I love all things Italian, dream of traveling to exotic locales, and feel a bit guilty for rarely attempting to clean the house. About the author
Hi there!
Thank you so much for checking out my books! I hope you will find some that keep you from doing the dishes, or vacuuming, or maybe even cause you to stay up later than you'd planned to (although I covet my sleep, so I'd feel guilty if I was to blame for that too often!).
A little bit about me: my novel SLEEPING WITH WARD CLEAVER won the Romantic Times/Dorchester Publishing's American Title III contest. And my novel SLIM TO NONE was a #1 Kindle bestseller (it even surpassed a John Grisham novel for a day!). My work as appeared in Ladies Home Journal, the Washington Post, Marie-Claire.com, Paste.com and on NPR's Day to Day. I honed my fiction writing skills while working as a publicist for a US Senator. Oh I'm also the volunteer coordinator for the Virginia Film Festival, which is a great one!
I live in Virginia with my husband; we have three grown children, and we all love to travel--between us all we've probably been to about 50 countries. I love all things Italian, regularly fantasize about traveling to exotic locales, and feel a little bit guilty for rarely attempting to clean the house.

I liked how totally clueless Adrian was about American “common” culture and how he just soaked up all of the knowledge. His willingness to go with the flow and experience new things was awesome. There were lots of snickers and giggles along the way as Emma teaches him how to be normal. It is also great to see Adrian come into his own a bit and finally realize that “the way things have always been done” doesn’t necessary equate into “the way things need to be done”.
Loved the fairy tale ending and how Adrian and Emma help bring the Monaforte monarchy into the modern era. Can’t wait to read the stories of the other Monaforte siblings and friends. This was a very quick read that will have you laughing and cheering along the way.
I also thought that Adrian's mother would NOT have changed as much as she did, and certainly not so quickly. I thought her almost immediate acceptance of Emma was totally unbelievable.
I thought this book was OK, but not good enough that I will continue with the rest of the series. It gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
The story opens with Prince Adrian of Monaforte, who's in DC on royal business, deciding he's had enough of not only his boring duties, but his matchmaking mother, and taking off with an assist from his loyal equerry and a woman he's just met, event photographer Emma. Keeping Adrian's identity a secret while he enjoys a much-needed break from royal life becomes priority number one, and a change in both scenery and Adrian's wardrobe are required to pull this off. Once the prince and his unwitting partner-in-crime are away from prying eyes, the two of them spend some quality time getting to know each other, sharing confidences as well as some interesting adventures, and . . . you'll have to read the book to find out how it all turns out. There are some fun twists and turns along the way, and the book ends in a very grand and romantic way, in the perfect fairy tale setting.
This book was my kind of light reading; it made me chuckle, sigh, and fan myself at various times, was very fast-paced, and incredibly entertaining. I'm so pleased that Something in the Heir is the first story in a series and I can look forward to reading about the romantic travails of Adrian's aforementioned equerry, Darcy, in the next book.
