On the Shelf: A Short & Sweet Romcom Sugar Bomb (The Men of Engine 17 Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 508 ratings

Is he a hero...or a villain?

At thirty-seven—or seven-and-thirty, as they'd say in one of her cherished Regency romances—librarian Zoey Matthews is a spinster. On the shelf. Alone. But she'll settle for nothing less than a man as good and noble as a hero in a Jane Austen novel...even if it means attending her baby sister's wedding without a plus-one. As the date approaches, Zoey's feeling more like an old maid than the Maid of Honor.

When Engine 17's fire chief appears in her life—on horseback, no less—he seems to check all the boxes. But is Zach Shofner truly a hero? Or is he the villain in this story?

Fall in love with the Men of Engine 17 one short novella at a time! Each rom-com features a different fireman and his quest to find the one woman who will set his soul on fire. These short & sweet romcom sugar bombs are best read in order.

Zoey moves to the country and after one night she discovers she's cut out for country living. There were no noises during the night that kept her awake! As she drives to work the next morning reveling in her good fortune, she hears a strange sound, a squawk, and a fluttering of wings! She's trapped in a car with a wild beast. Barely escaping unscathed, she tries to figure out how to handle this problem when she's rescued...by a man on horseback!
This auspicious beginning to country life had me laughing until tears almost made their appearance! And it wasn't the only time in this very very short novella that has more humor and a HEA. Perfect for a lunchtime break or waiting for a lesson to be over kind of read. Funny, sweet, and part of a series, this is sure to be the start of loads more fun!

This was so dang cheesy & I ate it up. Wishing my husband have me a chicken instead of flowers after reading this. It’s a cute short read, I think this would have SO MUCH potential if it was longer instead of a quick novella.

Each novella is short and sweet but the characters are great. I was surprised by how short they were and I was skeptical when I found out who the characters were in this story but the chickens, LOL. Read the series.

This is a fun quick read. Fun characters, witty comments and the chemistry between Zoey and Zach is great. I recommend for a quick fun read.

This book was short & sweet. A nice little romance. Plus, who doesn’t love firefighters? I would have loved it at any other time, but it just wasn’t what I’m currently looking for.

I enjoyed this short, kind of quirky romance between a librarian and a fire chief, both past their youth and lonely. She moves from an apartment in the city with a view of a ventilation shaft to a little house in the country. It's only 10 miles out of town, but a whole new world, complete with a flying monster that flies into her car as she is driving away from her new home. A man on horseback rescues her and the monster, which turns out to be a chicken, and the blue egg it laid in one of her boxes of books. Her hero, just like in the Regency romances she loves to read! Fate demands a hiccup or two before they end up together, but it's inevitable. Fun and clean.

This is a fun story and really short, so reads really fast. The characters were good and draw you in. It is a cute series.

This is a series, however, each book is a stand-alone. The story is in the same firehouse so there are overlapping characters, but they are all so endearing and add to the book.

This author knows how to write an amazingly funny and sweet romance short story. This time Zoey (who is Alli's sister - the heroine from book 1) has her chance at love. She wants quiet from the city so she finds a place in the country. It's just too bad she doesn't have time to fully walk her property before work.

I have had a situation of an unwanted guest in my car before, and I can say without a doubt I wish a had a hunk on horseback to save me too!

I absolutely love the theme of animals playing a part in the making of a couple is an all-time favorite of mine. I recommend, both the author and book!

These two are just two adorable together. After Zack find Zoey on the side of the road in the country freaking out over a monster in her car he can stop thinking about her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet
Reviewed in Australia on August 10, 2023
This book was short and sweet, but it could have been built on so much. I enjoyed the writing but feel the plot is lacking. I would have enjoyed a more developed plot, where the characters were described more, and we got to know them better
