3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 109 ratings

An ancient goddess imprisoned and waiting for release and vengeance. . .
A man sent by the Scottish king seeking the truth. . .
A woman who can control fire. . .

Eons ago, six ancient Celtic gods turned on the seventh who promised to destroy humanity. To keep her imprisoned, they passed their powers down through their descendants who could be called on if, when, the time to rise up came. In the dark times of the late 13th century, that time came.

William de Brus, illegitimate son of King Alexander III, is sent to investigate a nobleman thought to have mysterious powers and designs on Alexander’s kingdom. When he discovers the tales are true, and, that he is part of some larger plan, William also finds an enticing young woman who seems to be at the center of it all.

Brienne of Yester knows who her true father is and so do the villagers around her. She knows she is different in other ways and when her powers soar and she can create and control fire, Brienne learns the truth of her father’s nature. And his plan to release their ancestor, the goddess of fire and chaos. The only one who makes her feel safe, the only man she dares trust, may be her soulmate or her destruction.

When passions flare and powers rise, can they trust each other enough to give all of humanity a chance to survive or will the goddess escape to destroy everything in the world?

This dark, emotional fantasy romance series set in medieval Scotland was previously published by Berkley.

From the Author

Dear Readers,

I'm thrilled to have my WARRIORS OF THE STONE CIRCLE stories back out in the world, and even more excited to finally be writing the fourth and final book in the series about the battle between good and evil in medieval Scotland, England and Ireland.

Ancient Celtic gods banished an evil goddess and gave their human descendants the powers they would need to protect humanity against her. Now, her minions have found a way to free her and the Warriors of the Stone Circles are all that stands between the evil one and her forces and the complete destruction of the human race.

I hope you enjoy this dark, historical fantasy romance series!

A great start to this series. This is all about an ancient war between gods and goddesses that continues through time as their powers are taken on by new people. Brianna and William are great characters and meld together perfectly as a couple. The wold building is exceptional and the characters believable.
Pick this one up as well as the others in the series for a satisfying read - but be forewarned, it is the first in the series. The war is far from over.

Terri Brisbin’s “Rising Fire” (Warriors of the Stone Circles Book 1) was a wonderful way to start a new series. I was captivated by this historical fantasy filled with Celtic Gods and Goddesses and their descendants. I’ve enjoyed her medieval stories so much in the past.

This a well written book that takes place in Late winter, AD 1286 in Scotland. Christianity has come to Scotland and the old gods and goddesses are seldom heard from anymore. But their influence remains unbeknownst at first to their descendants but there in case they ever need them. And the time is coming. There’s so much happening in this book.

While I usually don’t read fantasy books this one is somewhat different. With a larger theme at play here and humanity’s destruction on the horizon we have our handsome hero, William de Brus, illegitimate son of King Alexander III and heroine, Brienne of Yester to find a way to save the day.

I enjoyed the story and the characters. Since this is the first in the series there’s a lot to set up in the story. It was wonderfully imaginative and well executed. I loved how the relationship between the main characters just sizzled. I did however look for a more epic HEA. All in all this is a fantastic story.

Thank you Ms. Brisbin for this exciting love story.

This book was sooooo good that I couldn't put it down and when I had to my mind stayed with this story. If you love adventure, mysteries, romance, fighting and such don't miss out on this story. I've read many books but nothing in this story reminded me of another book. I don't want to give spoilers but the story synapses is more than enough to reel you in! Enjoy, I know I did and can't wait for the next book.

The story was OK but it was difficult to really like Brienne.
The was too gullible, and for most o the book she more than willing to be mentored by the person she knew was evil.

The writing is wooden. It is a good story but the characters are stiff making the book uninteresting and disappointing.

The prologue catches your interests straight away. However, the characters have certain powers within themselves, but they themselves don't know how to use their powers or the extent of their powers. Very disappointing book. Expected much more. Had a great start but.. Disappointing. No depth to characters.

Rising Fire is a fantasy set in Scotland where the ancient Celtic gods have been forgotten, to be replaced with the Christian god. Even so, one of the ancient goddesses, Chaela, is determined to return and rule the world, at all costs. She has groomed one of her descendants to aid in her restoration to the place she believes she deserves. Lord Hugh is a nasty piece of work.

A secret group of followers of the ancient gods have been waiting for Chaela’s attempt to return and have plans to stop her reappearance. The descendants of other gods will need to be rounded up to assist. Those descendants include William de Brus and Brienne of Yester, Warblood and Fireblood.

William de Brus, warrior on a mission for the king to find out what Lord Hugh is up to, finds more than he bargained for. Brienne of Yester is young and has been kept in the dark about her past, but knows she is something more.

Rising Fire brings all these players together, introducing an attraction between Brienne and William, as well as setting up a long game that will involve several showdowns before the goddess and Lord Hugh and put in their respective places.

This fantasy concentrates on story development over character development. The story, while not complex (bad goddess against everyone who wants to live happily ever after), is well told. The darkness of the story gives it an edgy feel. While the story of William and Brienne is complete, to see the bad guys defeated, you will need to read the rest of the series.

Thanks to the publisher who provided a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
