Retying the Knot: An Over-Forty Christian Rom-Com (The Fab Forties Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 227 ratings

What happens when you say "I do" to the same person... twice? Not your typical love story!

Meet Piper:
Okay, here's the scoop: I married my old study buddy out of necessity. But trust me, it's not as scandalous as it sounds. See, Peter needed a wife to receive his dad's inheritance, so I did what any friend would do, I said yes.

Enter Peter:
We're talking a marriage on paper, folks. That's all the guts I had to ask for. But if Piper had wanted more, I'd have handed her my heart, all the puppies in the world, and a truckload of chocolate. Instead, I paid off her med school debt as a surprise and hightailed it to a different country with my broken heart.

Back to Piper:
Here's the not-so-great part. I somehow ended up pregnant (details of our wedding night are a bit fuzzy, but that's another story). Peter's mom despised me (still does). And when we parted ways, we left our baby with her over-the-top grandma. I told you, it's complicated. But now Peter's reaching out, and I'm starting to wonder...

Peter's Turn:
Regrets? You bet! Turning forty hit me like a freight train, and I can't let this chance slip through my fingers. I've reconnected with our daughter, and now it's time to win Piper back. If only she weren't engaged to another man...

Peter & Piper are people I’d like to spend time with. The predicaments they find themselves in and their thoughts in the midst of those predicaments are still good for a chuckle, even though this is the second time I’ve read it.
Dealing with 40 year-old knees and bodies can make for good comedy too. Parts of their past tug at a parent’s heartstrings , but it’s not maudlin. Their faith in God supports them in the trying circumstances that come up when dealing with a messy past.

5 stars for a mostly light-hearted Christian romantic comedy.

The H needed to marry within 3 months of his dad's death. The h offered to marry him. They divorce after having a daughter & never got over the loss. Sometimes second chances do come around.

This series is about friends who are in their 40's. Peter and Piper met when they were study partners in college andmarried to enable him to get his inheritance. When Piper becomes pregnant, things start going downhill, they end up getting divorced, and Peter's strict mother raised their daughter whom Piper hasn't seen in a long time.
Years later, Piper returns to work on building a relationship with their daughter but in doing so her daughter convinces her to work on her relationship with Peter, but Piper is engaged.
This is a clean, wholesome read with some faith elements, funny moments, resolving relationship issues, and Piper finding ways to connect with her ex-mother-in-law who disliked her from the start.

This book was more than I expected and absolutely adorable. It was seriously funny and had me laughing throughout. The cultural references and faith elements were both handled seamlessly adding to the storyline.

The one bed trope adds to the comedic relief to the storyline. 🩷

This was a short and sweet read. Peter and Piper have an unusual backstory. They married to help him get an inheritance, had an unplanned baby, then left said baby with his mother and they went on with their lives. Sixteen years later, they are trying to make up for leaving their daughter.

It was a cute read, but it never really made sense to me why they both left the baby. It was sort of explained, but meh.

Other than that, the dialogue was cute, and the characters were quirky.

This book was so fun to read, mainly because the main characters are a bit older, and also because it has a group of friends who support each other in all their craziness.
I also loved this story because the two main characters are finding each other and love after their crazy history with each other.
The relationships with friends and families are so real. When we can put ourselves in the characters’ lives and understand the pains and joys, that is what makes a book great! This author has done that!
I see there are more books in this series, so now I’m looking forward to reading more of these fun characters!
Liwen Y. Ho is becoming one of my favorite “go-to” authors. I think I’ll definitely be reading more of her books. Her stories are packed full of sweet lessons from God, and how He loves us. They also have wonderful examples woven throughout on how to cherish relationships.
If you like tender stories of love, friendships, and overcoming many issues, then this is a book you will want to read.
This is a wonderful book to read, I highly recommend you pick it up!

Fun, lovable characters grabbed my heart and interest right from the first page. This is a humorous,, delightful, easy to read story . I had to pause occasionally while I caught my breath after laughing out loud.

The reunion between Piper and Peter, who were best friends in medical school,, now live on opposite coasts, Peter in California and Piper in New York however share a teenage daughter, the result of a short lived marriage. The three of them come together for the first time in many years and experience a fun, life changing adventure

Heartwarming, delightful story that was fun to read until the last page was turned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, cute, adorkable - and chock-full of dad jokes. :)

Disclaimer: I loved Mimi and Nolan's story (Ten Things I Like About You), and I really wanted to read the second-chance story of Mimi's parents.

I loved both Peter and Piper, although I found them at times to be a bit frustrating. As before, in Ten Things, Nai Nai certainly was a force to be reckoned with, and I truly didn't envy Piper who struggled to get on her (ex-)mother-in-law's good side.

Another disclaimer: As I'm not a big fan of religion in the books I read for fun, I am not quite the target audience. But I am a fan of Liwen's writing, especially her rom-coms, so here we are. :)
(Plus, this time, she also brought dad jokes. Lots and lots of cringe-worthy, terrible, so-bad-they're-actually-funny-somehow dad jokes. )

I loved this book.

Coming from a Chinese background myself, it was cool to read about similar cultural differences that I experienced myself.

I loved the relationship between them, and I love reading romance that’s over 40s!

Very much recommend.
