Protecting Shaylee (The Fae Guard Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 1,148 ratings

Shaylee

Once upon a time, I believed in fairytales. But when my father died, so did my belief in the elaborate stories he told about light and dark, faeries and magical kingdoms.

When I was young, Aden offered me friendship and protection. When I became a woman, passion ignited between us. He brought a spark of magic back into my life.

Then he left without a word and took it all away… my heart, my belief in magic and my hope for a happy ending.

Aden

As a favor to Shaylee’s father, I was asked to be her guard. I was her friend, confidant, and protector.

Then one day, the girl I knew was gone and, in her place, a striking beauty. For one moment, I gave in to the growing attraction, and it changed everything.

I had a secret about her past…and her future, but it was not yet time to reveal the truth. It was impossible for me to lie to her, so I kept my distance, letting her believe that I was gone from her life forever.

The time has finally come for me to return, to tell her about who she really is. The darkness is stalking her, and I’ll do anything to keep her safe. And make her mine.

Elle is a reading addict and a lover of all things books. She has always had a passion for writing and since she is a hopeless romantic, loves an HEA, has a crazy (and dirty) imagination, writing romance came naturally to her.

Elle is married to a real life book boyfriend - a sexy alpha male with a sweet side. He is her inspiration, the love of her life, and her best friend.

She also loves creating romance book covers, watching baseball, and having adventures with her husband, daughter, and puppy!

Paranormal is something I read once in a while.. but this book... what Elle Christenson did... holy smokes. I have found a new author that I plan on stalking! I have always loved stories about the Fae and what Christenson wrote, was beyond amazing. It dabbles in history but it has the romance element where it feels like its just every day romance.. but with such a twist that you cannot put it down. Shaylee.. omg I love her. She has such a wit about her that keeps Aden on his toes and gives him a run for his money. Aden is such a fierce alpha its hard not to love him either.
With the Fae storyline intertwined it played just an amazing role in it and was beyond intriguing. I loved the idea of this story about the Fae and how they work. Makes it feel more realistic even though it is fiction. I can honestly say I devoured this book in hours.. I could not put it down. I am soooo looking forward to more in this series because it is a pure winner.

Falling into a world where fairytales do exist is every girls dream. Well until you find out that your life is a lie and the person who was you hero and first love left you to protect you. Shaylee now has to work through the aftermath of her old life and find out who she really is. Aden decides to finally give into to his feelings but is Shaylee willing to let him back into her life. He might just be the final breaking point for her or the one thing that can save her.

This is an amazing first book in the series. I absolutely fell in love with Elle's writing. This story is filled with so many wonderful twists and turns you can't help but be drawn into this fairytale world. The characters have so much personality and the plot is completely original from anything I have ever read. It was like Elle made this entire world and I couldn't help but get lost in it. This is a rollercoaster ride that I never want to get off of. I can't wait to see what Elle has in store for us next. This book is a must read and I recommend it to everyone even if paranormal is not your thing. It's like that decadent chocolate cupcake with the hidden cherry filling that you just can't get enough of.

I rated this three stars because while it was a pretty good book, and much better. The author had an original idea for a great backstory and plot line. The only problem was, the book was completely pornographic. What could have been an incredible story was barely tied together with X-rated scenes that got so repetitive after a while that I would skim ahead through them. I'm not a prude, and I enjoy a good sex scene, but when that seems to be the main focus of a book it gets boring. I was a little disappointed and won't be reading any more of the books in this series.

I don't usually read para-normal books. I was a bit skeptical about liking it.
I actually loved it. I really enjoyed the humor and the world Elle created.
Shaylee is someone I would like to know in real life.
Aden is mysterious enough to keep me coming back for more.
Some of the terms for body parts were a bit crass but overlooking that it was a very entertaining book.
I can't wait to read the next one.
I know this may sound weird, and I am sorry if this offends the author, but as I read this book, I thought the author was a male writing under a female name. The references to Star Wars, X-men and the crass terms, surprised me in a romance. Living in a house full of testosterone I can understand where the references come from. I know this is stereotyping but not many of the women I know care much for Star Wars and X-men, much less use "tits" when talking about breasts. So I was surprised when I read her bio. Thanks for writing something unique, wonderful and entertaining.

When I heard that Elle Christensen had a Fae series I was very excited. I've only read one Fae series previously and I fell in love with this pnr genre. This book was a little different though. It had an equal amount of background information on the mystical aspect of the Fae but mostly it focused on the H and h's relationship (past and present.) Suffice to say this start to the series did not disappoint!

Shaylee and Aden were great together. They were sexy (hello smexy times ;)) and sweet while being a force to be reckoned with collectively. I also enjoyed Aden's "alpha" protective nature while reveling in Shaylee's snarky-ness. Furthermore, I enjoyed the comradery between the other Fae guards and am curious about their stories!

While the story did feel a little "Insta" at times and the ending felt a little rushed, by no means was I disappointed. The "insta" aspect made sense as they were "mated" and soulmates. So of course they'd have a connection/feelings much faster than the usual. Furthermore, I thought the author did a wonderful job tying up this couple's story, while simultaneously setting up book two and the H and h's (Ean and Laila) story. I, for one, can't wait

I am new to this author but I was drawn in by the book cover and then the description. I'm a sucker for stories where the heroine finds she is a bit more than the girl next door and this book did not disappoint. I enjoyed the interaction between Shaylee and Aden. Their characters were well developed and I could feel the inner turmoil they were dealing with as they struggled to merge their worlds and conquer the shadows. I liked the flow of this book. It kept me interested all the way through and I loved the playful banter between Aden, his family and friends as well. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

First in a new series by Elle Christensen. Shaylee has lived her life thinking she was normal. She's had a crush on a guy ever since she knew what crushes were. When she meets up with Aden after her first year of college, things become heated, and steamy. Oh, pantries never looked so good.
But Aden takes a step back and leaves. He comes back two years later when Shaylee is about to find out the true nature of her heritage and what he has to do with it. Moving to Rien and learning about the Fae as well as dealing with her growing feelings for Aden consumes Shaylee's time, she tries to guard her heart knowing that if Aden left her again she'd never survive, but love takes over and slowly Shaylee succumbs. A fantastic story with depth, the world of the Fae is just like ours and their heroes just as sexy. Hot sexy scenes and a rollercoaster ride of emotions, with a HEA at the end. Looking forward to book 2.

I love it when i find a new author that i have not read before,i was intrigued by the blurb as this is my genre to read pnr plus having Fae in the story well then i was hooked.
This wasn't a large book and i felt it was a bit rushed but you still get to find out what is happening and why, plus the character's are easily likeable plus there is plenty of hot steamy sex through out this story, well it is the Fae what do you expect.
I totally enjoyed this story and will definitely read the next installment, this does not end on a cliffhanger which i loved and the next book is about a different couple that we met in this book.Three & Threequater stars.
