I wasn't expecting much at all from this book, just some cheap entertainment for a day or two, really. But it was actually REALLY good. There are a couple of lines I thought were a bit cringey but that really didn't distract or break my experience in the grand scheme of things.
The characters are all actually really well fleshed out and super compelling. The sex scenes are hot enough, and the relationship was extremely well built as well. The writing style was great! Quick and easy to understand but descriptive and emotive enough to really give you a sense of things. A great balance. This author also managed to build up suspense and mystery really well in a way that isn't over the top, and starts out kind of sinisterly soft. There was a great plot that is definitely sending me over to the sequel, and I wouldn't be interested if all this was, was smut, despite how well the smut was written. On that note, the smut was missing a lot of the really cliche elements you sometimes find in this kind of writing, which made it so much easier to read and enjoy.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes gangster love stories, fluff, angst and porn with lots of plot. There's probably something of a star crossed lovers trope in here, as well. Really good stuff.

I love the Mafia and Detective side! It shows both side of the story which makes it super interesting.
