Defy The Stars Kindle Edition
I needed to get into Columbia College. I'd do anything to get in. With no other choice, I had my dad help me get an internship at Circe Operations Center.
Only it's not an ordinary operations center.
Getting attacked on my first day on the job wasn't exactly stellar, but staring into the eyes of the dark eyed boy who saved me, made me re-think every single thought I'd ever had.
But when things like war come up, I don't know how far I'm willing to defy everything I've ever known for a future that is anything but normal.

I first heard of this book, by my fellow blogger Laura Carter @ Bookish Treasures she was doing a review on a different book by Magan, but she mentioned 'How to Date an Alien' and I was instantly hooked. I absolutely love that title! I've been looking for a great alien series to read and took a look on the book.
It was great, it had this geeky, witty, sarcastic humor, that Alexs' possesses and that I could totally relate to, she was a very down to earth, teenage girl. She didn't get swooped up by the revelation that Alien existed. What I mean by that, she was dazzled and suddenly went all freaky like alot of us would if we ever saw an alien (admit it, y'all would freak the s*** out). She handled the big secret more maturely than you would expect.
But (aha! y'all knew there was 'but' eh?) when Alex gets saved by Ace, everything changes for her, like all other teenage girls, she has finally found that one boy on the entire planet, that finds her attractive, that understand or accepts her humor, and loves despite her many flaws.
But (again?!) There is an intergalatic rule, humans and aliens do not mis. Ever. Everyone is trying to keep them apart and when everything spirals out of control and it is Alex's turn to save Ace from imprisonment. Is she strong enough to do it? does she have the strength in herself to despite all the harsh and negative thins said about Ace, to find a way to save him?
I love Alex and Ace, I loved seeing go through the normal teenage agnst, does he/she like me, will they ever? the embrassing situations a teenage can find her/himself in, the awkward moments before you get comfortable with a person, acting normal through the butterflies flying in your stomach. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to review to the other books in this triology (have already read them!)
if your looking for a drama filled, teenage love, mixed with a bunch of aliens, then this is definitely a book you should pick up!
Alex wants to get into college, the only issue is that she doesn't have any extra curricular activities to put on her college applications. She believes interning at her father's government job will do just the trick. She isn't close to her dad and has no idea what he really does for living, only that he works at Circe, a government agency. She finds out she is in for so much more when she finds herself in trouble the moment she steps into the building. Circe is actually an alien operations center, full of, yes, aliens and humans. After a very hot alien named Ace saves her life, she finds that she will be working closely with him for her time at Circe, what she doesn't expect is falling in love.
I love sci-fi, I love aliens, I love alien romances. I can't help myself, they seem just so fun. This book was fun. I found it to be a very light read, nothing really serious and very amusing in so many parts. It wasn't quite what I expected, but I was not disappointed. The story was fun, the pacing was fast, and the characters were very interesting.
I did like the storyline. It was new with kind of an old edge. I liked the forbidden romance and for some reason all the cliches worked well with this story. I felt the storyline and the writing were a bit in between a parody and a ya novel. There were no real surprises or awe inspiring moments but I was ok with that. It was a nice break from some of the deeper books I have read lately.
I really liked the main character. She was the average clumsy, smart-mouthed, science geek that I know so well. I liked her quirkiness. It gave her the every day Jane feel that I don't seem to find in many books. I also liked Ace. He was definitely the quiet brooding type that I seem to find dreamy. He knew all the right things to say at the right time. It was a quick romance, the insta love kind, but they never seem to bother me too much. It was sweet but passionate and I couldn't help but to root for Ace and Alex.
It was fun, enjoyable, and a great book for a quick smile. A great vacation from heavy reads.
Magan is an exceptional writer who draws you in and keeps hold of you until the very last page. Her characters were very well thought out and developed. And I am not afraid to admit that Ace became my favorite character in the book. Sometimes throughout the story Alex would get on my nerves, but you have to remember she is in high school and high school girls can be majorly dramatic at times!
Magan had everything in this book: drama, romance, action and surprises. I read this in a couple days and was really satisfied. I am anxiously waiting to read the sequel, How to Break Up With An Alien, next! Great book to read so go get it!!!

This is an amazing start to this series. I couldn't put it down. I am itching for book 2!!!!
Who doesn't dream of sexy aliens..
