Jenna Jaxon is a best-selling author of historical romance, writing in a variety of time periods because she believes that passion is timeless. She has been reading and writing historical romance since she was a teenager. A romantic herself, Jenna has always loved a dark side to the genre, a twist, suspense, a surprise. She tries to incorporate all of these elements into her own stories.

She lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets--including two vocal cats, one almost silent cat, and a cocker spaniel who thinks he is a cat.

When not reading or writing, she indulges her passion for the theatre, working at Hampton University, a private HBCU, as a professor of theater and humanities, and as a theater director. She often feels she is directing her characters on their own private stage.

Jenna equates her writing to an addiction to chocolate because once she starts she just can’t stop.

Judith Harper is introduced in ONLY A MISTRESS WILL DO in a previous series (HOUSE OF PLEASURE). She is in a coma for 4 months thanks to her faithless and abusive husband, Simon Harper. They have a 6 year old daughter, Anna. Judith's condition continues to worsen and Dora Harper, her beloved sister-in-law, brings her back to her parents home to die. In those months, Simon has died, and his father, Lord Downing, has guardianship of Anna. Once home, Judith's parents call in Lord Farringdon, a peer and physician. He recommends surgery to alleviate pressure in Judith's head from her fall - which may kill her, but the constant bleeding by the other physician has weakened her so that she will not survive. The surgery is successful and Judith awakens to the news of losing her husband and more importantly, her daughter. Enter John Tate, Lord Haxby, who has loved Judith since childhood. He stepped aside when she was swept off her feet by Simon Harper. He married also and lost his wife and baby years before. Judith is recuperating and still coping with being a widow and a mother without her child. She is in no hurry to marry again - but this time she is faced with the handsome doctor who saved her life and the beloved childhood friend who was always her champion. Also, Judith is fighting for the custody of her daughter and her cruel in-laws who will not even allow her to see Anna. Complicated tale of the consequences of our choices and the people we choose to be part of our lives. John has always been in love with Judith, but she doesn't think she can return that romantic feeling. When all goes wrong and tragedy strikes, Judith begins to realize the value of devotion and faithfulness. Going through adversities together forges an unbreakable bond. Wonderful story of true love and all we do to secure that precious gift!!

TRUE LOVE IS FAITHFUL, DEVOTED & FOREVER!

A romance full of dastardly deeds. John and Judith had so many schemes to overcome before and after. Thankfully they found some good people to help them along the way.

Anna’s husband was abusive and one night, he hit her so hard he knocked her down and she hit her head on the fireplace hearth. This put her in a coma for 4 months, and when she awoke, her life was irretrievably changed. Her husband had been killed in a duel, and her memory had missing pieces. She knew she would have to marry again, but had no desire to do so, at least until her formal year of mourning was over. However, her circumstances became such that she found herself in a situation in which she had no choice or otherwise she would be shunned by society. She felt betrayed yet again by her deceased husband and her picture was dimmed by society morals. So how could a widow find a perfect man to marry? Suddenly she found herself with two marriage proposals, one by the doctor who treated her and saved her life, the other her childhood friend who she considered only a friend. Both gentlemen were handsome, titled, wealthy, and would make a good husband, but the choice was extremely difficult. To find out which one she chose, the reader of this review will have to read the book since I have no intention of putting out a disclaimer, other than to say Anna was extremely happy with her decision. I really enjoyed the story. There were so many twists and turns it kept my interest and I didn’t want to put it down.

This book has a dark side. Spousal abuse with consequences, dishonor, death, child abduction, emotional manipulation and blackmail. Most important throughout is the love story of John and Judith. She's the only woman he's loved and lost to her dead husband. This time he doesn't plan to lose. I was not expecting how many layers of this plot I would have to read through to get to an HEA. There is so much more to this book than just A Countess of Convenience.

I love how Jenna Jaxon's characters are intertwined through the books in the same series. I knew a little bit about Judith's story before I read this one. Jaxon does an amazing job writing the dialect of the time, describing their world and their actions.

This story had a clear villain who was enjoyable to despise and a few extra villainous people thrown in just to torment our leading lady.

The hero is swoon-worthy. (wink wink). Might I be reading too many Regency Romances?

This is an entertaining read--a wonderful escape for a rainy day or a trip to the beach.

Miss Jaxon shows no limits a mother will go to protect their child. Choosing the right husband can mean the world to a family with secrets.

The plot is adequately interesting. The characters fine enough. Overdone for my taste. Wish I had known before starting, I would not have started.
