CADE (THE MORGANS OF ROCKY RIDGE), by Margery Scott, is a 41 page (minus front and end matter) novella. Setting: 1861 Colorado. I ADORE the premise....Isabella Morrow is just days away from a wedding to a man she doesn't even like...when fate hands her the perfect escape from this unwanted union. Cade, a boy she went to school with, turns out to be her hero in every sense of the word. I loved watching their youthful affection blossom into romance, their united focus in righting old wrongs bring them together, and the resolution of Cade's revenge come to satisfying results.

The burgeoning romance is believable. The interaction between Cade and Bella makes their physical attraction and emotional connection and not-so-instantaneous love ring true. These two went through an awful lot (past and present) to come together....and they deserve their happy ending. This novella is a stand-alone, though I truly hope to see more in this MORGANS OF ROCKY RIDGE series (must be, given the subtitle, right?). There is room for much more in Cade and Bella's love story....and secondary characters would make premium star characters in future books.

Era-appropriate crime is described (but not seen in action), and kisses ignite passion beyond 'sweet' classification. I label this read PG.

This short story is incredibly well written. It's strong on themes of love and loss, revenge, and the meaning of family. The short story was almost error free (I found a few, but they were very minor). I'm so impressed with the quality and enjoyment factor of Margery Scott's work that I simply must find everything she's ever written and add it to my TBR (to be read) cue.

Highly recommended to fans of historical romance.

This is a fast-paced story of crafty revenge, childhood friends, and rekindled love. Everything is promising. Clean romance, suspense, and HEA.

I don't normally care for the shorter novella type stories; however, I enjoyed this one very much. It had a basic plot where our character Bella was supposed to marry a man that she didn't like in order to please her father. In gallops our hero, Cade, to take her away from that problem. Then there was the twist and Bella is the one who seems to solve all their problems. It sounds somewhat contrite, but it was sweet and to the point.

I have learned with writing that you are supposed to keep what is important to the story and throw out what is not - I feel that is what this author did - and came up with a compelling story to keep us interested enough to continue to the end. I look forward to more of this author's work, and hopefully, more about the Morgans of Rocky Ridge.

Easy read without all the heaving bosoms and throbbing members...

I very much enjoyed reading this book but I do not appreciate the swear words so instead of a five star rating for the story I had to give it a three because I was offended by the unnecessary swearing

Cade has committed his first ever act against the law, but, he had no choice. It was either that or have his best friend from his childhood, Bella, marry the absolute worst man ever! Edward Dobson killed his mother 12 years ago and got away with it since the Sheriff was on his payroll! Only will she believe him? After all the Sheriff ran him out of town the day after for trying to tell. A very great story by Margery Scott that you wont want to put down till the last word and then still want more!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I liked the quick yet thorough development of the characters. I really look forward to the rest of this series!

I’d recommend this novella to anyone who enjoys Western Romance but has a very limited time to read.

I gave it 5 stars for all the reasons above & because it left me feeling happy & peaceful.

This novella felt as if the romance was forced into it. I rather liked the premise but, for me, it didn't live up to the other high marks. Cade won't tell her why he "robs" the stage coach because he doesn't think she'll believe him. He waffles about that, then tells her. See?! She doesn't believe me, then she does and suddenly they have always loved each other - since they were kids. Yet neither one made any effort to do anything about it for 12 years, until he learns about her getting married to a man everyone has heard horrible stuff about for more than a decade (including the TSTL heroine). Didn't hate it but glad it was free.

Isabella is to be married to Edward. She doesn’t love him or even really like him but she is being strong armed by her father to marry him. She is on her way home to prepare for her wedding when the stagecoach is stopped and masked men rob them and takes her away.

Cade is out for revenge on Edward because he killed his mother.
He grew up with Bella and he doesn’t really want her to end up like his mother.

I enjoyed reading this story.

I quite enjoyed this short novella and would look for more of Margery Scott's books. The setting, the subject matter and the storyline were great, and Ms Scott writes quite well. There was a good connection between Cade and Bella, and they were believable together. The only reason that I didn't give the book 5 stars is that I felt that things came together a bit too simply and easily at the end of the story. It didn't quite feel realistic to me. I also think that if Ms Scott had wanted to she could have written a bit more detail in and made the book a bit longer. However, as I said, I enjoyed the story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid, if short tale of reunited childhood friends brought together again by a mutual enemy.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 18, 2014
Cade Morgan aims to save the girl, his boyhood self admired, from an arranged marriage. He has his own reasons for getting involved and really doesn't know if she will welome his interference.
Aided and abetted by his equally heroic cousins they fake a stage coach robbery to put the bad guy (the bridegroom) and his confederates off the scent. Their kidnapping the heroine appears to be a hostage situation intended to dissuade pursuit and will not be seen as a way to delay the heroines marriage to the point where it will frustrate the villain's plans.
But once the h&H meet again their childhood tendre blossoms into more and plans change.
This is a pleasant, short, clean read which is not lacking in charm or dramatic tension.
