As things stand, the Kentucky Wildcats are the premiere progam in college basketball. Under the watch of head coach John Calipari, the team annually competes for National Championships, and routinely finds itself playing in the Final Four, on the final weekend of the college basketball season. But it wasn’t that long ago that Final Four dreams and National Championship expectations were the furthest thing from the mind of Kentucky fan’s minds. The truth is, after missing the tournament entirely in 2009, many fans wondered if Kentucky would ever be Kentucky again. Then, just when the program hit its lowest point, the school made a move that would change the landscape of college basketball forever: Kentucky hired John Calipari. He brought in a slew of highly-ranked recruits. And college basketball would never be the same again. “One and Fun: A Behind the Scenes Look at John Calipari and the 2010 Kentucky Wildcats” is the story of Calipari’s first season and Lexington, and the Wildcats’ rise from “overlooked” to the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Through exclusive interviews with stars John Wall, Patrick Patterson, Eric Bledsoe and others (not to mention Calipari himself), author Aaron Torres captures the essence of an unforgettable season, which marked the rebirth of Kentucky basketball as we know it. From the star player’s arrival at Kentucky, through a million dollar fundraiser and even a call from the President of the United States, Torres takes you behind the curtain, and captures it all, documenting the wild ride of one of the most dynamic teams in the history of college hoops. The 2010 Wildcats might not have won it all, but they did change college basketball forever. Re-live it all, in “One and Fun: A Behind the Scenes Look at John Calipari and the 2010 Kentucky Wildcats”

First off, I feel like I should say that I'm not a Kentucky basketball fan but picked up this book because I'm a sports fan and love when you get to go "behind the scenes" on teams.

The book has so many great inside stories from the star players to the walk-ons at the end of the bench, Coach Cal and plenty others that made up the inner circle of Calipari's first Kentucky team. I really enjoyed the anecdotes from assistant, and ex-NBA player, Rod Strickland about Boogie Cousins and the relationship between John Wall and Eric Bledsoe. The book also does a really good job of hitting on how big of a national phenomenon this team became (which is easy to forget with the 1 and done culture in college hoops these days) and how that happened seemingly overnight.

All in all, I just wanted to say that it was a really enjoyable read that I flew through and just picked up a couple copies for Christmas presents.

As an avid, bleed-blue-til-I-die Kentucky Wildcats fan, it was a no-brainer that I would purchase this book. I expected an entertaining read that would take me down memory lane to that beloved 2009-10 UK team. This book far exceeded my expectations. Besides reliving the special moments of that season, there were many stories I had never before heard. Beyond that, looking back at the entire landscape of college basketball in 2009-10 and comparing it to the present day emphasizes the impact this team had on not only changing the culture of Kentucky Basketball, but changing college basketball overall. If you're a Kentucky fan, this is a MUST to add to your library. If you're one that cannot stand Kentucky Basketball, then this book is even more of a necessity. There is much to learn and more to respect about UK than you ever dreamed possible.

Wow, I really like this book. The author gives you the "behind the scenes" stories of a fabulous year in Kentucky Basketball. Each word, paragraph, page, and chapter is filled with juicy nuggets about one of our favorite all-time teams and how they changed the culture of College Basketball for the better. The only part I didn't like was finishing the book.....I wanted more! Great read.

I first saw these guys at the Women's Clinic. I immediately called home and told my cousins who were both basketball coaches that this team was going to be something else. Boogie was playful. John was constantly dribbling. The friendships were developing.

We were at many of these games, and I loved re-living the moments through your book. I would highly recommend.

A must read book for Kentucky basketball fans!!! Torres takes a look at how John Calipari ended up after Kentucky and resurrected the program after the Billy Gillispie era. The first team with John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and the rest brought the fun back to UK Basketball.
Bought two copies, one for me and one for my parents for Christmas.
