How To Tell If Your Oxygen Absorbers Are Working
Kevin
Product Description
Oxy-Sorb brings you the best in freshness. Tired of having to purchase large packages of Oxygen Absorbers and always seem to be wasting a few? That is where this set comes in. Included are three packs of twenty Oxygen absorbers for a total of sixty absorbers. This is a much more manageable solution for most household applications. Each pack has a freshness pill inside so that there is no question as to the quality and freshness of these absorbers. If the pill is red, then no Oxygen is present, and they are good to go. If the pill has turned blue it means the bag has been compromised and Oxygen has gotten in and the absorbers are no longer good. Our Oxygen absorbers are made of a chemical compound, the active ingredient of which is powdered iron oxide. While they are not edible, they are not toxic either and are completely safe. No harmful by product gases are created, and they do not remove the fresh smell and taste of the product. Our absorbers reliably bring the Oxygen level down to .01% or less when used in proper packaging. They eliminate the need for additives such as BHA, BHT, sulfur dioxide, sorbets, benzoates, etc. Other benefits include: Helps retain fresh-roasted flavor of coffee and nuts. Prevents oxidation of spice oleoresins present in spices themselves and in seasoned foods. Inhibits oxidation and condensation of red pigments of most berries and sauces. One 300cc Oxygen absorber should effectively cover up to 1 gallon of space. Each absorber measures 2.95" x 2.17" x 0.11". Each pack of 20 measures 9.25" x 7.25" x 0.19". Overall packaged set dimensions are 9.50" x 7.75" x 1.10".

I do a lot of canning also, but when SHTF, I'd rather have dry, lightweight bags of food than heavier glass jars. So for serious bulk food preparation, dry storage using oxygen absorbers is an excellent choice.
Fast service and there was a pink sticker inside so you know they're good. If you're new to using these make sure you have a canning jar or something airtight to put the extras in right away or they will lose effectiveness. Your best bet is to have everything ready in assembly line fashion ready to pop them in and seal the mylar or bucket. These are different from silica gel packets. Don't use with sugar or it will harden and once the package is opened I believe they lose effectiveness so if using these with 5 gallon buckets get mylar bags too and put a pound or 2 in each bag depending on how long you want things to last. If you are doing this for emergency preparedness, I would definitely do that. I just buy flour in bulk. I don't bother with mylar for that. I put 12 cups in gallon ziplock bags with an oxygen absorber and toss them in 6 gallon buckets. It is especially helpful when you use different types of flour because 50 pounds doesn't fit in a bucket. This way you can fill canisters and have the extra tucked way nice and fresh for later use. If you use wheat germ or flaxseed flours with breads that ask for a couple tablespoons a loaf, put these in 1 lb bags and don't use oxygen absorbers with leavening agents or yeast. There are some really good articles on this subject if you are using them for dry canning I would take the time to read them or you could use them incorrectly and waste time & money.
I really couldn't be happier with my first effort at canning beans, flour, oatmeal, coffee beans, etc... I've incorporated the Oxy-Sorb with a FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer. I know the Oxy-Sorb works as some of my older Ball jars have rims that are too thick for the FoodSaver to seal a lid to. I know some people just ad the Oxy-Sorb and that creates a seal so I tried with the older Ball jars and it seams to work just fine. I added one Oxy-Sorb per old Ball jar, placed the metal ring on and they were sealed within a few hours. Couldn't be better and I have piece of mind with the other jars that did seal will stay sealed with this product. Getting ready to order another batch now.
Oh yes, it is nice that they come in bags of twenty so I don't have too many out at once. A quick tip, that all of you may know, that I learned from Youtube was to just put any leftovers in an empty mason jar and vacuum seal it with my FoodSaver. Now I won't loose any and I always have some ready, even if I just need one or two.

I have tried many, for Freeze Drying purposes, and these are the best IMO! It's great that they are packaged in 20's as many companies don't, and it makes resealing them a pain. However I would still prefer having them packed in 10's. Its very rare that I would use more than 10 at a time and the quality of the product will decline each time they are exposed to air.
24 hours for the same effect. Not sure these are brand new due to this, it seems like they could
have been in storage for longer periods of time (hence why they did not activate right away).
That being said the price makes up for it. If you are not in a hurry then this product
is a good solution.
I bagged the leftovers in a ziplock freezer bag and then put that inside the original wrapper and ironed it closed again. Works great at preserving them for future use. If left unsealed, they absorb all the oxygen they can (getting quite warm in the process) - I tried this with one to see how effective they are. These are good.
