I installed this unit on a older Cannondale mountain bike circa 2004. Fit perfectly. Added the MTX D trunk and modified a 12 inch milk crate with the MTX mount. Excellent system for touring/day trips using the D expandable trunk case. I use the modified milk crate on the mountain bike to hold tools, irrigation parts and supplies in our vineyard up and down the rows. Works great and saves me walking time.
Hey - it’s an old mountain bike! No more technical trails, just vineyard rows! Still great fun and exercise.
While attaching this to my bike and taking it on a test ride last night, I discovered that when my left leg was at rest, the quick release lever was rubbing the inside of my thigh. While pedaling it was fine, but I worried that if I made frequent stops, it would start chafing. I could feel the other side slightly as well. I tried raising the rack higher, but that made no difference--it just rubbed at a higher point. I moved my seat slightly forward, and that did not help much either. What I do now is point the quick release lever almost straight up. It is not ideal, but since I do not want a permanently installed rack, this will do fine for now. There must be some other way they could design this system so it might not rub so much.
I will admit, however, that after having taken it on a 53 mile ride, I never noticed the clamp, but I was also pedaling most of the time. During the ride, the rack never shifted once. I did not have the bag loaded too heavily, but the rack felt very secure.
Getting that quick release lever closed is a chore, especially the first couple of times you use it. The rubber shims needed to be "set" properly. What I did was put some light oil on the underside of the quick release lever where it hits the cap it tightens against, and that helps slightly. Still, if you want your rack to stay put, you really need to crank down on that. I don't see how an allen wrench can help, as with mine, the quick release lever rotates if you try to turn the bolt with the wrench.
Despite those little issues it is a well made rack, and the DX bag snaps in nicely. It is stronger than it looks, but do not exceed its weight limit. And use it only on a metal seat post--I could see it crushing a carbon fiber post easily.
This rack gets the job done, plus it's so easy to install/remove...quick release! The rack does have a tendancy to shift, but to alleviate this I recommend whipping off your seat post with alcohol to remove any grease/dirt to ensure a good seal, it will help cut down on lateral movement of the rack.
If you're just using the trunk bag without panniers you don't have much to worry about if the rack shifts a little to one side or the other. If you're going to use the pannier bags you'll want to get the pannier adapter kit to keep the bags out of your spokes. This is when the rack shift can cause a problem and cause the pannier adapter to rub on your back wheel.
I did a 332 mile ride in 5 days and only had to adjust the rack a few times because it shifted. I road in solid rain for two days and I think that helped the rack slide more so than it would have if I had been riding in dry conditions. I was able to nudge the rack back into position with my foot while riding so it wasn't too much of an inconvenience.
I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if it were an option just for the fact that the rack is prone to shifting when fully loaded...but it is what it is. Just keep in mind to make sure your seat post is free of dust & grease and it should minimize any sideways movement.

I did another 372 mile bike trip...Same trip in reverse. I opted to go with another Topeak rack given the lateral movement I mentioned in my initial review. I've attached a pic with the QR Beam Rack MTX in the background.
