I particularly enjoy long-distance trail biking, sometimes up to 50 miles per day on my Trek Dual Sport 3. This is why I wanted to utilize my bike instead of purchasing a stationary bike. I researched several different brands and types of bike trainers. Once I had narrowed down the type, I then looked at the different Alpcour models. The one I purchased is their basic, entry-level model, which suits my needs perfectly. With more advanced indoor bike trainers you have access to data collection technologies about the ride via special apps, as well as other features.
Because the Alpcour Bike Indoor Trainer is the only trainer that I’ve used, I do not have a basis of comparison like other cyclists may have. To read about the technical features of this trainer, you can view that on Amazon and other websites. The purpose of this review is to explain my experience using it.
SET UP: This type of trainer locks into the back wheel of the bike, versus other trainers that remove the back tire (I did not want to do that). Getting the frame set up and my bike placed into the unit was very simple. With that said, there is a long metal bar that has to be inserted through the hub for use on the trainer. And then it has to be removed when you want to ride the bike outside.
ADJUSTMENTS: There are two areas that can be adjusted to provide the desired riding experience. The first area is the metal roller that provides friction on the back tire. It may take some time to determine how firmly you want this to roll against your tire. Once you have it set where you want it, you can leave it as is. One of the downsides to this type of trainer is that it does wear down the tire tread, but I was/am not concerned about that. I want to replace my existing tires anyway.
The second area is the resistance knob that attaches to the handlebar. This is an important feature that I wanted on a trainer because I can easily change the resistance while I am riding instead of having to get off of the bike to change it elsewhere on the unit; not all bike trainers have this feature. When first using the trainer, I moved the knob to different levels (1-6) and found that the #2 setting provides my desired level of resistance and the feel that I want.
By feel, what I mean is that when I go higher than #2, the ride doesn’t feel as smooth. This feeling may be very different for different people and also may coincide with how I have the metal roller set against my back tire. Another reason why I do not mind just keeping the resistance knob set on #2 is because I like to do interval training with my leg machine and vibration platform. So keeping it on #2 allows for a great interval training workout while my legs and ankles are still recovering from the surgeries.
NOISE LEVEL: From reading many reviews, this is a really important thing for people. I do not have any basis of comparison, but the noise level (to me) is acceptable. It makes a high-pitched whooshing sound that I do not find bothersome, and I usually have my earbuds in and listen to music anyway.
STURDINESS: This is another subjective area that I think is based on a person’s overall riding kinetics. Some people tend to hold the core of their bodies still when riding, while others have a slight sway to the left and right while riding. The people whose bodies move more while riding may have a different ‘sturdiness’ experience with an indoor bike trainer, regardless of the type and/or brand.
Additionally, bigger/heavier people may also have a different experience with a bike trainer than their smaller counterparts. If this is a concern for you, then be sure to look at the indoor trainer’s specifications to see if they have any weight recommendations for certain models. I’ve had no problems with sturdiness; I am 5’1″.
FINAL THOUGHTS: For a basic indoor bike trainer, the Alpcour Bike Indoor Trainer Stand, is an excellent choice. It allows for easy resistance adjustment on the handlebar, provides a good ride experience once adjusted to your preference, and can be easily changed back/forth between indoor and outdoor use. Additionally, it comes with a bag and folds up into a packable size for travel. I am so pleased that I purchased this because it has allowed me to obtain cardio workouts despite challenging circumstances, which should be remedied in the upcoming months.

Pros:
- Super easy to assemble. All you need to do is thread the bolt and unwind the magnetic resistance cable. Everything else is already put together. Nice and easy.
- The whole kit folds up nicely and barely takes up any space when not in use
- Getting the bike mounted is a little tricky at first (unless you've used a similar product before) but is pretty easy once you get used to it. Just remove the rear wheel bolt from your bike and use the one the supplier provides (comes w/ the trainer). Once that's in there, it's just a matter of adjusting the width of the clamping mechanism and the height of the resistance wheel
- The magnetic resistance is actually pretty strong; I'm decently fit but really struggle to pedal when I have the resistance dialed all the way
Cons:
- It's a little louder than I thought it'd be. It's not deafening. Can you maintain a conversation with someone? Yeah, probably, but they're probably not going to fall asleep or be on a work call while you're pedaling. Not a huge issue but worth knowing
- It's not quite as stable as it could be. Could be that I don't have my bike mounted properly but when I get out of the saddle to do hill climbs, I actually rock the whole thing. Makes me worried I'm going to fall over. I think the legs of the trainer should be longer and spread wider to keep the whole thing more stable. You can probably put some weights on the legs to help with this. Will give it a try and update this review
- The magnetic resistance setting thingy has a clamping mechanism that is just kind of small. I think the manufacturer thought people would clamp it to the handlebars but it only opens so far and it makes it somewhat hard to find a good spot to clamp the thing. Had to put mine around the drops which is a little annoying. For my girlfriend's bike, I have to really force the thing to fit on the handlebar and I'm worried I'm going to break it at some point.
Overall, I really like it. A solid piece of equipment and I'm very glad I bought it. Looking forward to putting more miles on it.

Simple, easy to assemble , easy to operate - and does the job brilliantly.
Yes, you can have all the resistance you want by playing with the pressure on the tire and the “resistance level” control at your handle .
Perfect product.
