There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
However, one day last week, it just stopped working. Light comes on but no charging or anything. (It also started making a weird hissing noise - which I’m sure is indicative of the issue and likely lower quality parts that just gave out).
Also - I will say, the functionality for the wireless charging works though the method for holding the phone on the front was garbage. I had to tap the bracket.
She was initially very excited and as soon as she had a chance she set it up to test it out. Sadly, we ran into a problem almost immediately.
Because she didn't have the right cables to do so, she first ordered a special VGA to HDMI cable to ensure that it would work with both monitors.
However, when it was all set up, the computer recognized the mouse, keyboard, network, and sound from the docking station but not the monitors. She kept getting a message, "Display connection might be limited" and nothing she tried worked.
Additionally, the docking station wasn't very responsive to the power button. She had to press it several times to successfully power it on. We don't know if the unit might be faulty or if there is some other problem. We did do what trouble-shooting we could:
In the end, after searching about online, she tried updating monitor drivers, video card drivers, and the USB-C drivers... none of that worked. She also tried her personal computer, but it lacks USB-C ports. None of the other reviewers really said much about their experience so that was of no help.
The docking station charges her cell phone nicely but doesn't do the one thing she really needed so I can only give it three stars. I will update this review if we can somehow get it working and/or I find out we missed something.
As a final note, we know the computer recognized the docking station because of all the other functions that worked correctly, so everything was set up correctly, it just wouldn't work with the monitors. Very disappointing. after so much initial excitement.
Enter the VAVA USB-C Docking Station. For the laptop user who desires a bit more room to work the VAVA dock is perfect and has excellent functionality and features that make it indispensable!
--------------------
► What Does the VAVA Do?
--------------------
For the uninitiated, the VAVA dock serves as sort of a bridge between your laptop and external monitors, wired Ethernet, and USB compatible devices. The dock supports up to two external monitors with resolution up to 4K per monitor. The important bit here is that you own a compatible USB-C laptop. Most modern laptops will include USB-C, however, this is something you want to check before ordering! Simply using a USB-A to USB-C cable will not solve your compatibility issue since the port needs to be USB 3.1 compliant and the VAVA has a built-in USB-C cable, anyway.
--------------------
►USB-C:
--------------------
The VAVA dock has a built-in USB-C cable that is intended to plug directly into your compatible device and handles charging, data transfer, and video out. Again, the important takeaway here is to ensure you have a USB-C 3.1 compliant device and that your device supports both video out, charging, and data transfer via the port.
--------------------
►Experience & Performance with the VAVA dock:
--------------------
We've been using the VAVA for a little over a month and it's become an indispensable part of our home office! My wife typically spends her mornings and afternoons out of our home office meeting with her clients and then comes home in the late afternoon to finish her workday. She can simply walk into our office, sit her laptop on her desk, connect one cable (the USB-C cable from the VAVA dock), and she's set to begin working!
On our laptop, and pretty much most modern laptops running Windows-10, the extra display (ours is a Dell S2317HJ) is immediately recognized as soon as the VAVA is turned on. On initial setup, however, you'll need to extend your display and on our Acer Spin-5 laptop, this is done by pressing an Fn key which can quickly toggle the display options native to the Win-10 OS.
I've read a few of the mixed reviews on this device and I think a lot of the issues come down to using older devices; things like VGA monitors or non-compliant laptops. At least our experience with the VAVA has been extremely smooth.
--------------------
►Qi Wireless Charging:
--------------------
Another really neat feature is the inclusion of Qi wireless charging on the front of the VAVA (circular area). A small magnetic shelf fixes to the front of the VAVA dock to hold your phone in place, then simply put your Qi-compatible smartphone on the dock to begin charging! This feature works really well and it's very convenient to simply put your phone down and have it start charging without the need for a cord.
--------------------
►I/O:
--------------------
2 x USB Charging Ports
2 x USB 3.0 Ports
2 x USB 2.0 Ports
1 x USB Type-C Port
1 x 3.5mm Headphone/Mic jack
1 x Gigabit Ethernet Port
2 x HDMI 2.0 Ports
--------------------
►Closing:
--------------------
Definitely make sure to check your environment for compatibility before ordering. But if you're using fairly modern devices that support things like USB-C 3.1, HDMI, Qi wireless charging this is an excellent dock with tons of features and I/O ports! Recommended!
