A display and charging stand for wireless headphonesWireless headphones have come a long way, offering the best in sound quality, noise reduction and mobility. With most wireless headphones shipping without wall chargers, and newly designed laptops requiring adapters if they have extra ports at all, wouldn’t it be nice to have a stand-alone solution? Enter Fermata: a dedicated, wall-powered charging station to keep your wireless headphones fully charged and always ready to rock. |
Give your headphones the rockstar treatmentWhen you press pause on Apple Music, don’t toss your premium headphones on a table or stuff them in a drawer. Keep them safe and sound by hanging them on Fermata. The support saddle is topped with a baby soft, contoured leather pad, instead of a hard metal hook. The post is set back to ensure your leather headphone pads don’t rub against any support structure. |
Ensure the beat goes on and onThe USB charging cable built into the post on Fermata has a micro USB connector that lets you connect it into your headphones with ease. When you’re not charging your headphones, the micro-USB cable stays tucked away and hidden inside the Fermata post. That should be music to your ears. |
A dynamic charging duo from one super standNeed to charge your iPhone or iPad? Fermata can do that too, thanks to an additional USB port in the base, allowing you to charge simultaneously from one outlet. The base of the stand also acts as cable management so you can feed out just the amount of cable needed to keep your workspace streamlined and clutter free. Now you can have all of your recharging needs housed in one beautiful stand. |

Update: Twelve South personally contacted me and recognized an issue and immediately resolved it. Very happy with the service and promptness. I can now absolutely recommend the Fermata.
Of course, the Fermata will work with other headphones other than the QC35 that use the micro USB connection, but I felt at least reasonably assured it would work with my new Bose headphones as pictured, and it does - absolutely fine. I'd read a few reviews with users complaining their headphones won't charge. It may well be a defective cable, so it's worth swapping it out if you otherwise like the product. I charged both my QC35 and my wife's QC35 without issue.
Setting up the Fermata is very simple, and the included picture and instructions are very clear. It should take no more than two minutes to put together.
The stand is a relatively simple affair, really. What you see is really what you get. The base is sturdy, which is great.
However, the little snake-like reversible micro USB cable you connect to your headphones is much more of an annoyance than I thought it would be. I get the design, but it's just a bit too short and fiddly when you're trying to plug it into the bottom of a pair of headphones when you have so little slack. You end up trying to balance things without scratching the headphones on the base part and ... oy... it annoys me quite a bit even thinking about it. In addition, because the cable is reversible it doesn't fit quite the same or as easily into micro USB ports like on the QC35 (takes more pressure than normal), and removing the cable from the QC35 also required some wiggling since it's sort-of wedged in there. I just do NOT like this part of the Fermata. In addition, as tricky as it is to get your QC35 plugged in when you have full access to the shelf it's on, if you're trying to plug these in when they're set back on a shelf? Good luck with that. Far too annoying.
Of course, once plugged in, it's altogether quite handsome, really. And of course you don't need to plug your headphones in every time when you pop them on the stand. It would just make sense that you'd WANT to if it were a really simple thing to do. I can say for a fact that someone a little more elderly and less tech-oriented will struggle (sorry, old neighbors!) with the fiddling here.
Overall, I strangely kinda/sorta like the Fermata, but it's not cheap, there's some questionable build quality issues apparently out there with the reversible micro USB cable, and it really is just a too fiddly to plug headphones in, at least for my liking.
3 stars out of 5. Just... OK.

The base is flimsy and the stand attaches with one tiny screw, if you knock this over it will probably break off. The charging cable is
too short and does not stay attached to the stand. For almost $80 I expected more. I'm sending mine back as it's just not worth the high price.

Assumed that the headphones would charge through the cradle on top but charges through the plug-in.
A very expensive stand for your headphones.
