Can't clear a clog

Can't clear a clog
So my housekeeper really likes this vacuum brand and when it came time to buy one, I sprung for a Miele just like she wanted. We have two small dogs that shed so I sprung for the pet model. After using it for 6-8 times, I'm now sitting here looking at a $50 charge from the vacuum repair place. We noticed lack of suction at the hose and dutifully pulled out the owners manual (which is really not much help) and tried clear the clog. Guess what?! Apparently, an end user like myself can't access a clog in the system but has to take it to a slow and expensive repair place and pay $50. Not covered by warranty of course! When it's not clogged it's a nice vacuum but not amazing. I'll try and update this to see if this is a continuing problem or just a weird mishap which could be forgiven if this unit does it's job. UPDATE: Continuing clog problems each time it is used. We have another vacuum that we use to suck out the clog in the Miele but really this is ridiculous. You have to vacuum twice too once you figure out the clog is in action. I just finished clearing it twice in two rooms of cleaning. This is the second time after getting it back from the repair shop. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! The operation is otherwise smooth and light to the touch but if I could have known the clog problem I certainly would not have purchased. BEWAREUpdate 12.15.18 I am getting a little tired of ordering things on Amazon because there is absolutely no returning or support after their very small window of returns. I plan to take a hard look at anything I order over $100. This awful vacuum has been to the repair shop now 4 more times to clear clogs. I contacted Miele directly and they said that the repair company has to ask for a replacement directly from them. Guess what? Miele no longer has a sales rep in Washington State to respond to Viking Sewing & Vacuum. They are trying to contact "customer service" with Miele to resolve the problem. Had I purchased this vac from a regular retailer, I feel pretty confident that the problems would have been resolved. Also, yup, Amazon is listing this as a recommended product and is highly rated by consumer reports too. I am going to bet that I have a lemon but I'm stuck in a loop with no retail support. Never again Amazon.

Review from Day 2 of our new Miele U1 Cat and Dog Vacuum Cleaner.
First off, the name may be a bit of a misnomer. I tried it on both the dog and the cats and none of them were thrilled with it. Just joking. Never vacuum your pets. Duh.
Ok, out of the box. Easy to set up although the directions leave a bit to be desired. Ultimately, there is really only a couple of things you need to do before you are operational: push the handle in all of the way, and prime your hepa filter. Easy peasey.
In the directions, there's no real explanation of the suction settings for any vacuum you might have just bought. Maybe they're self explanatory to normal people but I wanted written confirmation. Turns out it isn't necessary; you can hear the difference. Turning the dial to "curtains" makes an obvious quieter sound than the other settings.
And speaking of sound, this thing sounds really good. Vacuum sound has never bothered me to begin with, and this vacuum is a bit quieter than our last Eureka, but more than that it sounds like a high end sports car compared to a muscle car. It sounds impressive like it means business but is so confident that it doesn't have to show off.
This is our first experience with a swivel head, so I can't compare it to other swivel head vacuums, but that said, I love it. It is so much easier to maneuver.
And yes, the Miele is a little heavier than our Eureka, and that might bother some folks, but we are only on one level so I do not expect to be lifting it much.
A couple of other reviewers mention that it is self propelled, and that is sort of true. I had it on carpet but on the hardwood setting, and nothing. Then I turned on the beater brush and it gently pulled forward. Impressive.
So, handling (on a single story) is wonderful.
I think the head is a bit more narrow than our last vacuum and I guess that means it covers less ground, but it can fit between the legs of chairs and other narrower paths, and it is so easy to maneuver that I feel like I'm moving faster.
And the head is somewhat lower so it fits under our couch...sort of. It fits under there about six inches which is far enough on all sides that you'd have to bend way over to see the hairs I missed, and hey, while you're down there, sweep those out for me. It also fits under our counters which is nice.
Our Eureka had a hardwood setting but you had to bend over and push a lever. It was a pain. I never vacuumed the hardwood floors, though my wife did. I'd use one of those dust brooms and then just vacuum the corners with the hose. But this Miele has a button right by the on/off switch that switches it from carpets to hardwood and so I vacuumed the hardwood and it was a breeze. And the wheels didn't sound or feel like they were scratching my floors like the Eureka's did.

Now, suction. You're out close to 800 bucks by the time you add some bags and the taxes so you made that choice because you want it to suck and you want it to keep sucking for a long time. (Frankly, for that price, I want it to cook me breakfast in the morning and call me handsome and charming.) Because our Eureka died...it was 15 years old...I couldn't give this new Miele a real test of vacuum power. I would have liked to have vacuumed the floor with the old one and then saw how much more the new one sucked up, if at all. To me, the hose suction does not seem that much greater than the Eureka. (Though the Miele is much easier to deal with and I love the extendable wand.) As far as the suction on the head goes, I read a reviewer or saw on youtube a pro saying how suction is only one part of the equation. The other part is agitation. You want the beater brushes to be...well...beating. Nothing scientific but I feel the carpets look cleaner than they did before.
Ours came with the (air) powered upholstery brush. This I could test. We have 6 cats, three of which are Persians. That's a lot of hair. (I don't really like cats but as you can see, I've not only lost that battle, I've lost the war.) So, I used this power brush on the sofa's head rest part...the flat part on the top of the back. It felt to me and looked to me like it was clean and hair free. Then my wife used this pet hair sponge thing (if you have pets and don't have one of these sponges, you're missing out. $5.00 here on Amazon) and she was still able to brush some hair off. So, I think I'll use the powered brush and I think it's easier and getting it pretty clean, and doing it faster, but she might still sponge afterwards occasionally.
Obviously, I can't tell yet how it will hold up. It feels and sounds solid and well made.
My wife believes in that consumer agency that rates things; I believe in reviewers. That consumer group rated a kenmore the highest but the users there wouldn't recommend it to a friend. Amazon users seem to love this Miele and I trusted them...and so far still do. I would definitely recommend this Miele Dynamic U1. It does its job and does it in such a way that it makes it easier to use.

I was skeptical to spend the money on a Vac to this amount and had been looking at Dyson's for a number of years..... So why didn't I buy the Newest Dyson, and instead, go Miele? Well, The last 2 vacs I have had here, had been canister style. Both were nice to start, then slowly got bad. This last one, had a nice run, then the hinge on the canister split, and I guess it wouldn't stay tight, and bypassed a lot of dirt. Due to that and the previous ones issues, I decided it would be best to go with this style, and the replaceable bags.
It arrived today, March 26, and I am in love with this vac. First off, I can talk in my regular tone of voice and vac at the same time! My dogs arent scared of the vac, and the tilt/turning of this vac makes it really a dream to use once I got used to that feature.
It picked up the dog hair from our 2 terriers wonderfully! switching from a area rug to the carpet was a breeze, and I only had to do 2 swipes instead of the normal 5 to get the hair up.
The attachments are nice. And the vacs head is heavy, but I know that it helps hold it to the floor, since the job it did was so much better.
Overall though, it is literally a nice vac to push and use. My wife even had nothing but compliments for it, and I can tell you it was a tough sell due to the price, but as of now, she is totally on board with it!

I want to end by saying that although I cannot speak to the longevity yet, that I will say I checked it out thoroughly, and I do not see poor build quality, nor do I really have any concerns. I do however want folks to know that it will take a little getting used to as it is a much better vac than even a 300 dollar Bissel vac I just got done throwing into the dumpster. I am not worried about bags cost, as I think this containing the dust and hair is a better option than dumping a canister that seemed to release most into the air.......

I highly recommend this vac, and If I remember, I will post a update sometime as I use it more.
