First of all, this isn't simply a DAW. FL Studio is also an intuitive platform for both imagining and creating music from the ground up. Beyond the capable DAW functionality (allows 100+ mixing tracks) with effect sends/receives, track sends and groupings, FL Studio opens up a whole new world of creative layering and sound arrangement possibilities. A channel rack sequencer gives the user a simple tool to create unique drum and instrument patterns to lay down with mouse clicks or via midi piano roll. You can then take this patterns and "paint" them into the song playlist, and by virtue of moving and repeating, you can almost instantly arrange your song on the fly. The arrangement possibilities and creative control are almost limitless, giving the user a great deal of freedom and potential for song development inspiration.
Be forewarned:
- Learning curve is subjective. You can get up and running in novice mode in 30 mins, but there is SO much more to acquaint yourself with to get to more intermediate level results. Expect to spend some time on YT to learn how to leverage the multitude of features and best techniques
- Producer Edition is needed (not Fruity Edition) to record external instruments (voice, guitar) via your USB/firewire interface
- Though more suited to EDM / hip hop, you can still use FL Studio for other music genres
- Some good drum instrument sounds and effects are included .. however .. you WILL be enticed to use (and buy) from a raft of DEMO ear candy plugins supplied with FL Studio, such as Morphine, Sawer, Drumaxx, etc
Overall, a really solid choice for home studio / creative canvas for developing music. I have been playing with this new version 12 for weeks without a single glitch, and it's been rather fun! I look forward to seeing how far I can go with this product.

Your All-In-One Digital Audio Workstation
This is possibly one of the most user friendly DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) I have ever used. Originally, I used Fruity Loops for creating loops for drums, however, I did not know that I can use this program for VSTis and be able to record vocals, guitars, and other instruments - as well as mixing and mastering.This program complements my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 and Line 6 POD HD500x for recording guitars and vocals. The ASIO drivers included in this program do a great job lowering latency and offers the flexibility of being able to reorganize structures after they have been recorded. For instance; today, I was able to record a complete song. I was dissatisfied with the structure and decided to rearrange certain pieces. I was able to clip guitar and drum tracks and move them to different areas.I am also able to get the best takes of riffs I've recorded and loop them.This takes a bit of the headache away of having to record an entire track that is 2-3 minutes long and then make a mistake and have to do it over again from the top.The program comes with pretty much everything that you need to start recording music. It's got its EQ, compressors, noise gates, limiters, and a library of different sounds you can incorporate in your music. For instance, I was able to experiment with some of the synthesizers included in this program and add a nice section of eery backgrounds to a slow black metal section that complemented the lead guitar. The funny thing is, I didn't even have the intention of adding this piece, I was simply messing around with the key that the song was playing with a random synth patch on Fruity Loops and loved it.Overall, this is a great program. It's user friendly compared to other DAWs such as Adobe Audition (which I think sucks unless you're using it for video work) and a few others. There is a bit of a learning curve, however, Fruity Loops does offer a basic tutorial on Youtube on how to use the program. There are also other tutorials available by other YouTubers to help you set up Fruity Loops for the style of music you play.Not good mixing and mastering? No problem. Fruity Loops records in .WAV files so you can record tracks in the comfort of your home and you can send tracks you have recorded to your go-to pro sound engineer and get them mixed and mastered as well.I recommend buying Producer Edition. I made the mistake of getting the Fruity Edition and had to pay an additional $110 to enable recording input functions. The Fruity Edition will only allow you to do loops, not record - just a heads up.
