Product Description
The Kala Metal Round Wound strings continue to be a favorite among U•BASS® players that like the familiar feel of metal strings. Available in 4 and 5 string sets, this unique set is constructed of a nylon core with silver-plated windings. These round wound strings provide a warm booming tone that the U•BASS® is known for. The strings are specifically constructed for the Kala U•BASS® to provide the player with extreme playability and accurate intonation. They feature lower tension compared to traditionally built bass strings, which gives them a great feel and makes them easy on the fingers

Pros
- tone is simply incredible, sounds a lot like acoustic bass guitar a la Violent Femmes
- feel of the strings is very close to normal bass guitar round wounds, just a little easier on the fingers
- these strings don't require special technique and fast playing is easy
- sounds great with a pick or fingertips
Cons
- the A and D strings have very long string ends, but barely enough usable string to get a full wrap around the tuners. The string ends are very long but very thin, and don't provide much grip around the tuners - the solution is lots of wraps of the leader material on A and D strings. The attached photo shows this.
- loud playing causing a little bit of a string buzz in the A and E strings

As a bass player with over 20 years playing these strings are a great upgrade for this form of Bass

strings themselves were of good quality. Took me a couple tries to string them because they have a lot of excess at the end and dont fit in the tuners the same way

I ordered these and they arrived faster than expected. My U-bass is so much easier to play now, I'm already playing it way more often than I was before. The sound is louder, kind of buzzy in comparison to the fat rubber band sound but not bad. Plugged in it sounds pretty impressive considering what it is.
Overall these strings have greatly improved my experience of playing my U-bass, I'll be using it much more from here on out. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who just wants to use their U-bass as a mini practice bass because it feels much more like what you're used to.
