It ensures you will never miss another visitor
I’ve been trying for the past couple of years to make my home more intelligent. Little by little, I have obtained many ‘smart’ devices and love to see them all work together. Not too long ago, I added the ZMODO Pivot Camera to our kitchen. It’s a very impressive piece of technology and I found the ZMODO’s devices are made to work with each other. So, when I had the opportunity to add the ZMODO Greet Smart Doorbell to my home, I jumped on it.The ZMODO Greet is a video doorbell that provides security and safety to your home. It works by alerting you when you have a visitor either by the main button press or the motion sensor. The device houses a 720P HD video camera that allows you to view and record any activity at your door. In addition to being able to view incoming visitors, you can also talk with them. Let’s say that you have a delivery person come to the door, but you aren’t available to answer the door. You can easily open up the microphone/speaker and let them know that they can just leave the package at the door.I’ve had quite a bit of experience with video doorbells. In fact, it was one of the first smart devices I added to my house. I love the idea of being able to talk to people at your door even if you aren’t at home. Our house is set up so that the living room is at the back of the house. And while it’s not a vast expanse between the living room and the front door, it’s still been very helpful to be able to let the pizza guy know that we would be at the door in just a moment. Because I already have a video doorbell installed at my front door, I decided to put Greet in my garage. While this might seem odd to some, it’s added security to me because we have an exterior door in the garage and then a door that leads into our house.Installation is surprisingly easy with Greet. ZMODO makes it very simple by providing all the tools you need (except for a power drill) including a drilling guide. On thing to note, is that you do need to have a mechanical doorbell originally in order for Greet to work. It needs the original doorbell cables that connect to the house in order for it to work. The first thing you have to do is line up the guide where you want it on the wall. Make sure its level (it has a preinstalled level) and then use the provided drill bit to make the holes for the screw anchors. If you are installing the doorbell into wood, you could probably get by with just using the screws, but they are fairly lightweight so I would still recommend drilling guide holes and installing the anchors for added stability.Once you have the holes drilled and the anchors installed, you are ready to affix the back of Greet onto the wall. You will need to make sure the wires are pulled through the back frame before attaching the back to the wall. Once it’s screwed onto the wall, you can attach the wires by screwing them into the back plate. The rest of the installation process is very simple. You just slide the main body of Greet onto the backing. You will need to use a little bit of force to get it to lock into place, but once it does, you can tighten the security screw and then begin the set-up on your phone. All in all, it took me about 30 minutes to hang Greet up. I will admit that part of that time was spent with me removing the previous doorbell. One of the features I love about ZMODO products is the incredibly easy set-up process. There is no run around at all. The device automatically connects to your WiFi and then you add it to your ZMODO app dashboard as a wireless device. You can rename it, set the time zone, and set a password if you wish to do so. Once you finish that step, the camera is up and running for you to use. You can switch modes between low resolution and high resolution, you can share video or screen shots, and capture video and screen shots right from the interface of the camera. Greet has 8GB of built-in storage. So, you can save to it and pull clips from it as needed. There is also and optional cloud-based storage option coming soon for those who want even more space. In addition to its basic functions, I have to say I was incredibly impressed with the Greet’s night vision (seen in the example shot) and the fact that you can move the camera view side-to-side (155-degree wide-angle view). It’s great for me because I can actually point the camera directly at the exterior door and it can capture all movements in its view. Connection to Greet from my phone has been flawless. I’ve connected on my home network as well as away from the house and I’ve not had any issues with it at all. I get a crisp, solid video feed from the camera and I feel very safe with it keeping a watchful eye on my property."This product was received at a free or discounted price in exchange for my thoughts and review.
