The features, power rating, and tonal qualities meet their performance criteria. The amp plays like a dream and really makes your guitar sing. I purchased this amp on Amazon, from a seller named ''ElectricGuitar'', which is an excellent seller by the way, I highly recommend it. So I purchased this amp in ''Used - Like New'' / ''Non factory sealed'' condition, for an incredible price of $899.95, so $200 less than the brand new price. I have to tell you, mine came brand new, not a scratch or dent, also came in a Fender box perfectly packed, with the 2 button foot switch, the original user manual, the Jensen speaker, Fender 5 year warranty and Groove Tubes stickers or logos and a Fender bumper sticker. I received the amp on Friday Sept, the 4th, 2015. Of course I have not left the darn thing alone ever since I got it. So my first impressions of the amp until today Sept 08, have been great. I really like the sound and tone that I am getting from the amp stock, as it is. I have tried it at different volume levels from bedroom levels, which sounds so good and sparkling and also at meaner louder cranked up volumes and also sounds great and warm, as you get those crunchy tube saturated compressed sounds. The Jensen C12K stock speaker is not yet broken in and still it is not ''ice peaky'' or ''shrill'' on the treble or high frequency tones at all. Honestly I don't how some people say this about this speaker and about the amp as a whole, maybe their amps did not came up set properly from factory. Mine is excellent, I don't even need or bother to take the amp to my expert guitar& tech for re bias, because it sounds so good as it is, so it would be pointless. My DRRI came stock with Groove Tubes, but they are not the ones that have the ''ElectroHarmonix'' or ''Sovtek'' writtings or other brand on the tube along with the GrooveTubes writings. This one only say GrooveTubes. A lot of people complained that the stock GrooveTubes are junk and sound bad, well I don't know about that but these ones sound super nice and warm! I plug in the cd player to the amp's input, using a RCA (Female) to 1/4 TRS (Male), to leave it playing music at louder volumes for around 30 minutes to and hour a day. Some times that I have been home alone I cranked it up with the Cd player plug in to it and you can see when it's darker, that the tubes are ''cooking'' like they should. I think the CD player thing is a good way of testing the tubes and of helping the speaker break in period. The CD player is stronger signal than the guitar, so if play a cd with wav files, not mp3's, in it, it is a stronger signal and has plenty of gain, so you can see the speaker and the tubes working hard as I pound it with LOUD music. It sounds extremely loud even at 2.5 on the DRRI volume knob, so I can only do this for no longer than an hour, since even if it is only me at home, I go crazy with the extreme loudness, but it's been a good bench test for the tubes and helps loosen up the speaker.
I will update after a month from now. So far I am extremely pleased with the sound of the amp. Like I said before I would never call the sound of this amp stock, as it is right out of the box, ''harsh'' ''shrill'' ''too bright'' ''ear piercing'' or ''ice peaky'', like other people have said. Of course if you use your Treble knob, you can make it bright sounding, but that happens with any other amp and speaker type. About the bass response, I think it is a well defined low end and low mid response, with it never being boomey or too much bass. The mid frequencies definition is perfect as it is in my opinion, definitely no need for that ''lost mid knob control'', it is set perfectly as it is hard wired. I love this amp, I like it more and more every time I play it. Also so far it has taken the few pedals that I have, in an excellent way, especially on the Vibrato channel. I will update in one month.
Also: the seller was amazing to deal with. I had an issue with the first one I bought, it was getting some static. No questions asked, they sent me a label took it back and sent me a brand new one.
Having owned a large variety of great amps of all types in 50 years of playing, including numerous vintage Fenders, I had fairly specific performance expectations in mind.
After dialing the amp in, I found it to be as expected-capable of clear clean tones, as well as being easily overdriven when desired. I'm certain I'll end up replacing the stock speaker with a Weber, re-tubing, etc., but that is just part of the disease I share with most guitarists, not a reflection on the amp.
Speaking only for this example and based on my personal tastes, I am quite pleased with this purchase. If my amp is representative of most other DRR's, and it's features, power rating and tonal qualities meet your performance criteria, you may well be too.
