What is a road bike?Road bikes are meant for speed & performance. They are lightweight, smooth & aerodynamic machines. Normally featuring geared drivetrain systems, narrow tires and drop style handlebars, you'll go faster and farther on a road bike than other types of bicycles. |
What's special about this one? This bike was designed for road bike enthusiasts who seek performance combined with value. The Shimano Claris STI 16 speed shifters and rear derailleur make for an incredibly smooth ride. |
Is this the right bike for me?This bike is great not just for beginners - but intermediate and serious riders alike. Theres no better way to jump into (or BACK into) road biking than on the Giordano Libero. |

Another thing that's good here is there's excellent clearance on the fork and brakes for bigger tires. I have some 700x35c tires that I tried on this bike and they fit. Making this a good candidate for use as a gravel bike / road hybrid.
Having said all of that, everything on this bike needed adjustment. So if you're not mechanically inclined or don't want to learn how to work on bikes budget another $100 - $150 to have a bike shop tune everything. I did it myself, and it took some time. The wheels needed truing. The front derailleur was misaligned. The brakes needed adjustment. One of the brake calipers had a stripped adjustment screw. Kent support was excellent and sent a replacement caliper that arrived 2 days after I made the request. That's another thing - a lot of complaints here about missing parts and one of the reviewers even bought new brakes because of it.. I never understand this, just contact the manufacturer to get the parts under warranty. Kent support was excellent here.
Anyway, I've been riding the bike a lot lately and I really like it. There is a trade off for the low price, but if you put a little time into it, you get a lot for your money.
1. Align the front derailleur, set limits, adjust the rear derailleur.
2. Adjust pads to flat, bed them then toe them.
3. Stretch the cables and readjust.
4 . Loosen then tighten every bolt on the bike. Some are torqued good other's are put on by Hercules himself.
Done.
The bike is SO MUCH NICER than I expected for 450 dollars in the middle of the pandemic. I was ready for stamped steel everything, but what I got is a bike that my partner can ride for the next few years if she decides not to upgrade. Do you have to push the brifters over into the next area code to get Claris to shift? Sure. But does it shift great once you get there? Yes. Yes it's just fine.
The front derailleur is Claris as well. This should probably be in the product description. The only thing that's not claris on this drivetrain is the crank, double chainring, and brakes. That's how I'd put together my discount drivetrain, so major props to the product manager at Giordano.
Anyway, I expected to throw 450 dollars away into a bike that I would be lucky to keep in service for 6 months, but what I got was a bike that is reasonably robust and just fine. It's a 450 dollar bike. It's not super nice. But good god you don't get ripped off - not at all.
Do yourself a favor and purchase this bike alongside a pair of compact drop bars. They are like 20-30 bucks for a set and you can even reuse the bar tape that comes on the bike to wrap your new bars. The stock bars are huge and will make your medium bike have the effective reach of a large bike. (There was a longer distance from seatpost to brifter on the Giordano 51cm frame with the stock bars than on my 56cm cx race bike.) It feels awful to ride the bike with the bars that come on it.
Here is to Giordano figuring out how to get more modern bars on the bike.
Also the seat is the most UNCOMFORTABLE POS I have ever ridden and it was replaced. And I had to replace the crankset, the one it came with made the chain rub against the chain guard because the bottom bracket was too long and the crank did not align properly with the front or rear derailleurs. BB and crankset were replaced with Shimano Claris and so the bike rides very well and shifting is adequate but "to the moon" on the brifters, if you will. Ohh, and one of the brake cables was pinched and had to be replaced. But the bike rides well once properly tuned and the extra weight gives you an extra "oomph" downhill...and a workout coming up again! And did I mention this bike is HEAVY??! If you are about 5' 7" this bike works, but at 6-feet or even 5'11' or 10" it does NOT!! This bike is a Small but sold for a Medium!
PS: The frame is STEEL...NOT ALUMINUM!
Update: Support for this bicycle is available and responsive to questions or issues, but I’ve already rated five stars so cannot increase it.
