Replacing the JDM radio (AM stations 9kHz apart) in my Subaru Sambar kei truck was easy and straightforward (with a Scosche connector handling the OEM interface). This mechless unit cuts down the weight and the included sleeve holds the rig securely. Above-average AM and FM sensitivity: getting a lot of DX on a not-fully-extended whip antenna. Plenty of volume in the small cab, runs the range from zero to too-damn-loud thru 4-ohm Cerwin-Vega 4x6s.
Minor complaint is the phone voice pickup quality was described as 'boomy' or 'muddy', but given the large expanses of glass and steel in the cab, the acoustics are probably to be expected. Plays audio mp3s fine from phone, stereo wire and USB stick in addition to AM/FM radio. Can even deliver up to 1A of charge current over the USB port. No color-change, clock, wireless remote (something else to lose!) or temp gauge frou-frou in it, but it does just about everything else you want in a rig at a high level. Robust buttons with good tactile feel add to ownership satisfaction. Decent-to-above-average audio quality with four preset EQ settings and independent front-rear, L-R, and bass-treble settings if you want to go outside the box.
At this price point, with 12 - count 'em - 12 AM and 18 FM presets, this is a terrific little winner. I'm happy I selected this little guy.
