The Ultimate Travel Gimbal

The Ultimate Travel Gimbal
Earlier this year I bought the Weebill lab and It was one of my best purchases until today. It was the gimbal that fits my need. Small, light and has enough payload capacity for my setup. I did not plan to buy another gimbal anytime soon because the Weebill is more than enough and I do not plan to use a bigger camera setup than what I already have. However, that changed when the Crane M2 was announced. I realized there were times and moments where I wanted to be low profile while filming and not catch too much attention from people. I pre-ordered the Crane M2 for the versatility. It will allow me to film with my phone or an action camera whenever I'm too shy to use my Sony A7R3 camera. I have received the Crane M2 today, did a bit of test and below are my initial impression.Pros:- Very small and compact, even smaller than the Weebill- Versatile: allows me to use multiple types of devices (action camera, phones, compact camera)- Wireless control. If you are using a Sony A6XXX series, you can now control the camera wirelessly- The price.Cons:- The locking mechanism for this gimbal is not for individual axis but instead its 1 lock for all axis. Could be subjective, but I prefer the locks on my Weebill lab.- Carrying case: it doesn't have a handle and locks, so I guess its just a case and not a carrying case. Perhaps this gimbal is already small enough to fit most bags so the case is not needed when traveling.- Slightly shorter battery life at 7hrs per full charge.I only listed the things that aren't available to most gimbals since that what I think matters. I am also surprised with the payload capacity of this gimbal. I was able to balance my Sony A7R3 with an 85mm F1.8 lens. This setup is atleast 1kg and the gimbal was not advertised to hold this much. I do not recommend doing the same because you have to be careful with the movements to avoid hitting the back motor. But if I want to use it with this setup, I can get away with it since I only do simple tracking shots. If you are planning to use it with a bigger setup like the A7III, you need to pair it with a pancake lens like the Rokinon 24mm f2.8. For me, the perfect setup for this is a Sony A6XXX series camera and a small prime lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best Small Size Gimbal Available Right Now
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2019
This gimbal is a big deal. Before it, the 2 best small size gimbal was the DJI Osmo mobile 2 and the Zhiyun Smooth 4. Both were pretty similar, both I had, and both had their advantages and disadvantages. But I’ll say this, Zhiyun took what missed the mark on the smooth 4 and made it 10x better on this new gimbal.

It’s a BIG Improvement. Previously, In the small size gimbal sector, all gimbals had a weight capacity of a large size iPhone which is about .3lb-.4lb. That was pushing it on most gimbals and even then they would fail when carrying the handle at 90degree. Now this M2 gimbal has a capacity of 1.5lb, 3x stronger! It can easily carry all phones and now compact cameras aswell, which never had a market for.

What’s great about? Besides everything, I’ll speak based as a content creator. The big improvement are the motors, it being able to carry more weight meant more flexibility on its uses. I am able to shoot rolling shots out of a car with this gimbal, a previous impossible to do on the Osmo or Smooth. The quality is top notch, solid construction of metal and rubber on hand held locations. The design is well though out, full 360 rotating and locking axis points. It’s able to stabilize any angle your throw at it and then lock up into a small package for storage. Zhiyun really hit the nail on hearing what consumers wanted!

To summarize, this is THE best small size gimbal available right now. It’s ability to be versatile with phones and compact mirror less cameras while being compact makes it a perfect gimbal for travel and vloggers. The quality and design of it is leaps ahead of the next comparison and is my recommendation unless the user is using cameras over 1.5lb.
