Pros of crane M2:
Brand new product so plenty of support and better software!
This thing is light and small! Great for holding long periods of time and easily stored for any traveling!
The build quality is great, it feels very sturdy and solid which I like!
The locking motors is such a HUGE plus! I don't feel worried putting this in my backpack as I know it will stay locked in place and not rotate any bad directions.
Super easy to use as well! the balancing for the first time took less than 5 mins and the quick reset positions makes it to where I can rebalance in under 30 secs. another big deal for when I travel and I don't have the ability to mess around with big equipment for those quick shots.
This device doesn't take batteries so you don't have to mess with additional batteries or chargers either.
I was worried I wouldn't be able to do inverted shots with this gimbal as it is smaller but surprising I can with my kit lens! such a great surprise!
Being able to swap between smartphones and cameras was a big plus for as I get my media on both and it doesn't take but 5 mins to rebalance for different equipment.
Cons of M2:
Brand new so not a long history to build a track record. So we will see as time goes on for that.
Battery life 7hrs. That can be a draw back with no the batteries part is that this has a lower battery life and no way to swap them out on the fly. But you can charge it while using it with a batter bank so all in all still worth it!
Gears are closer together limiting max dimensions of cameras you can mount.
720g max is kinda low but even if it held heavy cameras I would just recommend larger gimbals.
App Usage:
The app works well enough as far as I can tell, it connects quickly and once it is done once it will auto connect your camera, gimbal and smartphone once they are on. With the Song A6000 though you can not wirelessly control the camera with gimbal while in movie mode. That kind of sucks as this is used mainly for videos but this is NOT the gimbals fault. It is the fault with the sony camera, I just have to purchase the cable that will connect them and it will be good to go. So also not a huge deal.
At the end of day I'm extremely happy with my purchase as this does everything I need and is wonderful for traveling and storing. I have never used a gimbal before and I felt comfortable using it getting great shots within a couple hours of using it. I will be posting a video review this week on it.
I just wish i could get my a6000 to connect with it in video mode! I cant control zoom or initiate record. My only complaints.
Highly recommended for vloggers and travelers!
It’s a BIG Improvement. Previously, In the small size gimbal sector, all gimbals had a weight capacity of a large size iPhone which is about .3lb-.4lb. That was pushing it on most gimbals and even then they would fail when carrying the handle at 90degree. Now this M2 gimbal has a capacity of 1.5lb, 3x stronger! It can easily carry all phones and now compact cameras aswell, which never had a market for.
What’s great about? Besides everything, I’ll speak based as a content creator. The big improvement are the motors, it being able to carry more weight meant more flexibility on its uses. I am able to shoot rolling shots out of a car with this gimbal, a previous impossible to do on the Osmo or Smooth. The quality is top notch, solid construction of metal and rubber on hand held locations. The design is well though out, full 360 rotating and locking axis points. It’s able to stabilize any angle your throw at it and then lock up into a small package for storage. Zhiyun really hit the nail on hearing what consumers wanted!
To summarize, this is THE best small size gimbal available right now. It’s ability to be versatile with phones and compact mirror less cameras while being compact makes it a perfect gimbal for travel and vloggers. The quality and design of it is leaps ahead of the next comparison and is my recommendation unless the user is using cameras over 1.5lb.

Two things holding this back from being the perfect gimbal for me. First, the ZY Play app. The camera for the phone app is as barebones as can be. The motionlapse mode is terrible. You cannot assign where the camera will be pointing. The built in presets for this are weird in that they have odd starting points (which you can't assign as well).
Secondly, the bluetooth connection is strictly for the ZY Play App which means I cannot use the default camera app or Filmic Pro to start and stop recording using the CM2's recording button. For a gimbal that's in the midrange this is unacceptable. I understand this gimbal was not made for phones only and has to accommodate other types of cameras but this is a big oversight. I hope a firmware update can fix this.
Having said all that, I'm still going to use this gimbal. This design with the roll motor located *behind* the camera is suitable for ultra wide and anamorphic lens attachments. The strong motors will result in butter smooth footage since they are made to accommodate heavier payloads than my phone. The materials are quality and it's well put together.
Just take note that if you'll be using a lens attachment for your phone, you'll still need a counterweight as it will become top heavy. The phone will simply not balance without those. Speaking of balancing, it was easy enough to figure out, just take your time and adjust in small increments. I love that you don't have to rebalance when you detach your phone as long as you keep the phone holder attached to the mounting plate. This will also be good for my trips as the gimbal size is small and packs nicely in my gear bag.
I have spoken.
Update: After tinkering with for a while and taking my time to balance it. I actually do not need a counterweight to balance my iPhone 11 with the anamorphic lens and nd filter attachments. However the cons remain so my score still stands.
