If I'm installing this on my computer, do I still need the HP Smart app?

Yes. All users must download and install the HP Smart app in order to set up and use the printer. The HP Smart app is available on a variety of devices, including smartphones, tablets and computers.

What is the HP Smart app?

It is a printer software application that is required to set up the printer and print from mobile and computer devices.

Why should I use the HP Smart app?

The HP Smart app makes setup, printing and scanning easier than ever. It will help you connect to Wi-Fi, install drivers, load paper, install ink cartridges, register for an HP account and sign up for Instant Ink (where available).

What should I do if I can't find my printer on the HP Smart app during setup?

Wait for the printer light to turn purple before starting setup. This means the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode. If you still have issues, restart setup mode by pressing the Wi-Fi button on the back of the printer for 3 seconds.

If I'm having problems with my connection or printing from my PC, what can I do?

Download and install the HP Print Scan Doctor, which will help you resolve most issues, including Wi-Fi connection issues. It is available for Windows and will fix printing and scanning problems.

Just received as a replacement to an officejet pro after its printer head went out and I already know it’s a huge downgrade, but I was looking for something smaller and more low profile for a seldom-used home printer and this fit the bill. I read the reviews about how difficult it is to setup, lack of tech support, etc and they’re not wrong. Instructions are nonexistent and the HP website has generic virtual help that is useless. Following directions on the HP Smart app, it instructed me to go to my wifi settings on my device (iPhone X) and select HP-Setup..however, the only thing that popped up was the actual printer, which when selected prompted me for a password which I did not have because the printer was not set up yet. I was on the verge of giving up and packing it up to return when, by chance, I decided to check the actual printer for a wifi button (which my old officejet had). Basically I lucked out with setup. While searching for said wifi button, I pressed the info button, which automatically printed an information page with the printer password and PIN - it also tells you where to find the wifi button (back of printer). I’ve included a picture of said info page, but blacked out the password and PIN as I assume they’re unique to each printer. It would have been very helpful if this information had been included in the box, or at least told how to find it.I will say that you can probably avoid all this by pressing the wireless setup button on the back of the printer, which will most likely bring up the HP-Setup... option on your device. It’s what I would have done if I knew there was/where to find the wifi setup button on the printer. Can’t vouch for quality or durability since I just received and setup today. Will update if any changes or useful info comes up.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crafter's Delight - Restoring my faith in HP! **UPDATE**
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2020
I spent months trying to make a decision about replacing my Epson 2200. I just couldn't deal with the clogged printheads anymore. All of the other printers in my home and business, are HP. But over the years, I have become spoiled by the outstanding quality of the color printing of the Epson 2200 Photo printer. So, I was really torn between buying another Epson or buying an HP color printer. My SIL solved the dilemma when she gave me Hannukah cash and told me to purchase something that I really needed in my studio! I purchased the HP Envy Pro 6455. The price was great (I had enough cash left over to buy more craft supplies) and the features were appealing.

I must say that I was surprised by the quality of the printing on the Envy! In addition to creating greeting cards, I am an avid planner and I like to design and print my own stickers for my planners. The quality of the color prints is wonderful. I use #28 paper for my planner pages and both matte and glossy sticker paper. The Envy handled both of these media very well.

I was able to set up this printer in a very short period of time. I had not upgraded my Mac OS and so I had to locate High Sierra 10.13.6 because the printer will not work on lower OS versions. Once that was done, the rest was easy peasy. The printer located my network and installed itself really. I signed up for the ready ink program because I find it convenient and after doing the math, I know that the plan I chose will be a money saver for me. I also liked the fact that you can roll over unused pages.

UPDATE (JUNE 2022) I have been using my printer with Alexa, my Silhouette Cameo, my Curio, and my Cameo 4. I continue to be blown away by the efficiency of this printer. The HP Envy is a powerhouse and a little workhorse. I have had 19 months of trouble-free printing!

I saw a few reviews that mentioned a lack of printed documentation for this printer and I must say that there is no need for huge printed manuals anymore. I was able to get all of my questions answered using the Virtual Assistant at the HP Smart site.
