Directions
Keep it Clean: Regularly clean your band and wrist—especially after working out or sweating. Rinse the band with water or wipe it with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Do NOT use hand soap, body soap, dish soap, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes or household cleaners which could get trapped beneath the band and irritate skin. Always dry the band well before putting it back on. Keep it Dry: While Fitbit devices are water resistant*, it’s not good for your skin to wear a wet band for long periods of time. If your elastomer band gets wet—like after sweating or showering—rinse and dry it thoroughly before putting it back on your wrist. Be sure your skin is dry before you put your band back on. Don’t Wear It Too Tight: Make sure your band isn’t too tight. Wear the band loosely enough that it can move back and forth on your wrist. If you use Fitbit products with Purepulse Heart Rate tracking, for better heart rate readings during exercise, we suggest wearing the band so it’s secure, but not too tight, and wearing the band higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). Lower the band on your wrist and loosen it after exercise. Give Your Wrist a Rest: Prolonged rubbing and pressure may irritate the skin, so give your wrist a break by removing the band for an hour after extended wear. I had trouble with the touchscreen just as most people did, HOWEVER I found out that it's not a typical touchscreen...**it responds more to pressure than to touch.** I figured this out after tapping twice a little harder than usual *while I was wearing gloves.* Then it hit me, duh, I just need to tap a little harder to get it to respond, it has nothing to do with the touch of my literal finger like any other touchscreen device. I've had absolutely no problems using the screen once I figured this out. They should have been more clear about how exactly it's not an "ordinary touchscreen" but I'm satisfied now that I know how to work it. I'm even more satisfied to know I don't have to take my gloves off to tap through the screens, either!
I wasn't used to snapping the wristband on and at first lined up the pegs and holes and tried pushing on the top into my wrist and that 1) didn't work and 2) really hurt. After actually reading the provided instruction on how to snap it together, using my index finger on top and thumb on the bottom, I've had little trouble getting it to secure. No problems with it falling off at all.
The sleep tracking is something I was pretty excited about. You can select to start logging your sleep from the app if you wish, but I've found that this somehow figures out I'm asleep very accurately and logs accordingly. I thought maybe it had something to do with predicting the time of day and my stillness but nope, when I took a random midday nap by accident, it totally logged it! I won't question how it does it, I'll just enjoy that it does it. I try to put it on one hole looser than usual while I sleep so it's a little more comfortable if I roll over on that arm (more wiggle room).
I compared my steps and distance traveled to my previous tracker (Withings Pulse Ox, clipped onto my pants pocket) for the first few days and noticed that my Withings tracker counted fewer steps but more mileage whereas my Alta counted more steps but fewer mileage, which is pretty interesting. It would be nice if you could set your stride. The differences weren't outrageous and I'm not sure which is more accurate but I'm happy with what the Alta is recording.
My Pulse Ox would track any and all minutes of activity throughout the course of the day whereas the Alta only tracks when you do 10+ minutes of activity. I do a lot of running around during my job in my department but they're never greater than 10 minutes at a time. My steps are still being counted, though, and that's what matters. Though it would be interesting to see my collective time spent taking those steps and not just doing 10+ minutes of activity (though I'm still getting used to the Fitbit dashboard so this might be an option I haven't found yet).
I like the way the band looks and I'm happy with how it fits. I was worried since I have teeny tiny wrists but it's not even on the smallest size! I did get lotion accidentally between the band and the tracker in the small crease that's there but was able to easily wipe it off by releasing the tracker from the band with the buttons on the back. Charging it is also easy, though I wish there was a longer cord to go with it since I charge it at an outlet rather than at my computer. I kind of just rest the tracker on the adapter I plug the USB charging cable into and it's fine. Since the charger clips onto the device, it doesn't slip out when it's dangling from the wall either, but I'd rather it not dangle from the wall anyway.
Here's the nitty gritty: The look of it is ok. For now I'm using the standard band in the plum color and cosmetically it only seems slightly nicer than my flex. However, the screen is an awesome upgrade and I love the functionality. When you rotate your wrist, you can see the time. You can adjust the clock and I went with the one that shows the Fitbit flower progress thing. It's cute.
Also, I love the text notifications and phone call notifications. I'm never far from my phone, so it wouldn't have been a deal breaker to not have it, but it's really cool to have anyway.
The set up was painless and switching from my flex to the Alta was easier on the iPhone ap than it would have been on my computer. The charger is nice and you don't have to remove the band to charge.
The clasp is hard to shut initially, but it feels way more secure than the flex.
I do hope to one day upgrade the look to either the leather or the metal... But for now they feel too pricey. I'll update this review after I have had this more than a day!
Update: After 2 weeks, I will update a few points. First, it's still a 5 star product for me. The reminders to move are awesome. I totally love the fact that it gives me phone alerts. I'm a teacher so my phone is always silenced and put away. This buzzes on my wrist and tells me who is calling or shows me texts. I recently learned that it even sends my calendar alerts. The clasp is getting easier folks. I don't even have to push too hard anymore. Give that a couple of weeks. The fact that it flashes the clock when I rotate my wrist is awesome too.
My only complaint, and it's very minor, is that the texture on the band picks up flecks of whatever. May be dry skin or dust... Either way, I feel the need to wipe into the pattern with something rather often.
So after 2 weeks, I basically love this thing!

Klare Kaufempfehlung!!!
aspetti positivi del braccialetto:
+il design è molto piacevole;
+il silicone del braccialetto è morbido e portarlo sempre anche di notte non dà alcun fastidio; le misure sono da verificare bene sul sito Fitbit perché effettivamente il braccialetto small può risultare molto giusto;
+la lettura dei passi è precisa, non vengono mai contati quando si sta fermi in macchina per esempio come altri activity tracker fanno;
+la durata della batteria mi ha impressionato: 6-7 gg tra una ricarica e l'altra con smartnotification sempre attive e varie sincronizzazioni con l'app al giorno;
+l'app Fitbit per iOs poi è veramente ben fatta: semplice ma completa; la sincronizzazione con il braccialetto è immediata e non ci sono stati mai problemi di mancata connessione; il collegamento con MyFitnessPal funziona bene, cmq anche l'app Fitbit ha una funzionalità per l'inserimento dei cibi ed il calcolo delle calorie; il database alimenti di MFP sembra più completo. Molto utile e stimolante per mantenersi attivi anche il progressivo delle ore attive nella giornata, cioè quelle con più di 250 passi;
aspetti da migliorare:
-sensibilità touch dello schermo: non sempre lo schermo si attiva con doppio tap, o cambia la modalità di visualizzazione con il singolo tap;
-smart notification: le notifiche di testo sono limitate a SMS: dall'applicazione Fitbit iOs non risulta possibile selezionare alcuna altra opzione (tipo whatsapp) per le notifiche di testo; in alcune recensioni su youtube avevo visto che era possibile selezionare uno dei 3 sistemi SMS/Whatsapp/Hangout, ma dall'applicazione (almeno iOs) non mi è stato possibile;
-non è subacqueo, cioè non è da indossare in piscina, ma sembrerebbe ok per la doccia;
-non è possibile abbinare una fascia toracica per rilevare le pulsazioni durante le attività;
First things first- tracking:
- It's very generous when it comes to counting your steps and estimating your calorie burn. I managed to walk 100 steps in my sleep once without even lifting my feet from my bed. Calorie burn count is meant to be based on your height and weight but I find it no different to standard estimates.
- Sleep tracking is very poor indeed: to be frank this Fitbit really has no clue as to what's going on. It will count your steps during your 2 AM trip to the loo yet insist that you weren't awake at all. It has no way of reliably distinguishing between being awake and being restless which is why it lumps them together in the app, as if they were no different.
Secondly- some basic features are missing:
- The silent morning alarm still goes off even after I've already began my day and the tracker started counting my steps etc. there should be a way to disable it.
- Battery level display mode is missing, even though I explicitly selected it as one of screen modes in the App settings
- There should be more flexibility around screen settings. You cannot disable certain modes and you can only change their order but not much else.
Last, but not least- the design:
- The band material is of rather poor quality and the colour has already started fading a bit (after 2 or so weeks)
- The touch screen is not very responsive- certainly not to my touch which means I often have to tap it repeatedly
- The locking mechanism is quite fiddly. I found it a bit painful when putting it on for the first time and I scratched my wrist in the process.
The bottom line is that because the heart monitor is missing, this device will always struggle with accuracy. I will probably still keep it because I'm focused more on distance and minutes active and these two tracking modes still remain fairly accurate. I also like the way it looks it on my wrist, but if you're less vain and more technical you should spend your money on something else.
