But first, there is some misinformation in some of the other reviews, at least based on the current version of the app, so I'll take a moment to share current state.
You can set whether you want the scale to show your weight in pounds, in kilograms, or in stones in the app. It remembers the setting. You can also use a button on the bottom of the scale to switch between unit types (when the app connects, its setting will override the button).
You can turn off the electrical signals (used to measure bioimpedence for body fat and other body composition calculations the scale makes). You will want to do this if you are pregnant or have a pacemaker or other ICD. In the app, set the scale to Simple mode. It will then record your weight and will forego the other measurements.
You can share it with others in the household, and it will automatically distinguish between users whose weight differs by around 6 pounds or more. If you are all similar weights, it won't distinguish and you have to help by manually switching the user in the app.
Ok, on with the pros and cons.
PROS
It is precise. Multiple weigh-ins all in a row are the same, or in the case of body fat percentage, are very, very close.
I keep my scale in the bathroom, so I love that this scale has an IPX5 rating and I don't have to worry if it happens to get sprayed with some water.
My husband and I both use it and it automatically detects us and gives us each our own data on our phone. (Our weights are significantly different, and it does not confuse us.)
It supports syncing with the Eufy app over wifi if your have it available where the scale is. This is a much more reliable communication method than Bluetooth (less spotty, less hiccups and associated delay), and it doesn't require you to have your phone near the scale in order to sync.
It also supports syncing with the Eufy app using Bluetooth if or when you don't have wifi available. Any smart phone or tablet can connect this way.
With somewhat convoluted app-to-app-to-app communication, I can in fact have my weight go automatically to Garmin Connect (eufy -> Fitbit -> MyFitnessPal -> Garmin Connect). I hope this doesn't break before eufy gives us something more direct.
You can track body measurements in the app, and they provide a measuring tape with the scale. If you're serious about losing fat and keeping muscle, or about increasing muscle, this is much more important to track than overall weight. I love that they have this in the app!
Weigh-ins are relatively quick.
Turning it on is easy - just a quick partial step onto it and off again and then it's ready.
The app is actively being changed and worked on.
CONS
Measuring bioimpedence is not a very accurate way to measure body fat percentage and body composition. This is true of any scale you stand on for the measurement, not just this one.
The default setting in the app for it to remind you to weigh daily is awful and ill-advised. I quickly unchecked each day to just turn this off. A default of weekly is much more in-line.
There is a lot of information in the app that seemed "hidden" to me. It's definitely worthwhile going to the FAQs on the Eufy site and skimming through the ones on app features.
Note: The pro version adds a heart rate measurement and the ability to get the bioimpedence measure without making sure your feet are on the metal sensors. Neither of these was of interest to me, so I went with the less expensive version.
Pros:
15 month warranty (according to customer service)
Cost is not excessive
Easy to read display
Weighs up to 396 lbs
Includes 16 measurements
Wirelss & Wifi
You can adjust the display to lb/kg/st
You can have multi users on it
3D Body Model
Waterproof
Cons:
Smaller footprint - for those with larger feet, it is a bit small
App is rather clunky and not set up to be very user friendly
No customizable Display
Overall, I feel like this is a good scale. I cannot state how accurate it is. It is 1.5 pounds different than my other scale, but withought having the weight certified, I woudn't know how accurate it is. But it is fine for my choice.
Customer service has been pretty responsive so far, which is a huge plus! Although this does work the way that it is designed, because of its small size, I will most likely be returning it and purchasing the larger P3 model which has more features that I am looking for. But if you don't have large feet like we do, this will work great for you.
I paid the asking price (around $70 I think) because I wanted something with an app that would remember all my weigh-ins and let me track things there. But folks I will tell you, at least for me, that app is a bit of a mess. First, it's just not arranged and organized in an intuitive manner. I'm an IT guy by trade and have been in the biz a loooong time and consider myself to be very savvy around tech and can usually figure it out pretty quickly. But this one just took me way too long and I think less tech savvy folks will be as frustrated or more than I was. For example- when you weigh, it shows you your weight in a "dashboard" area, but then my daughter came in to my office and stepped on the scale. Well her weight now messed up my average numbers, so I wanted to remove her weigh-in. It took me a long time of stumbling around different parts of the app and I finally gave up. Well the app was updated a few weeks later and behold, now I can swipe sideways and remove that weigh-in. But overall it's just not intuitive.
As well, the color choice makes for terrible contrast. It is a bright white background with light, lime-green text, and is very difficult for me to make things out. It was such a pain that I finally activated the "secret dark mode": on your iPhone, go to Settings, Accessibility, scroll to the bottom and tap Per App Settings. Now tap on Add App, then add EufyLife. Now tap into that and scroll to "Smart Invert" and turn it on. Now, you will have a black background with white text. It is so much easier for me to read.
TH SAVING GRACE for this for me is, that the app integrates with Apple Health. So when I weigh in, a very short while the weight is in my Health app on my iPhone. So I don't have to use the Eufy app much if I don't want to.
Also note, on the bottom of the scale is an indent that changes the measurement units on the scale from lb. to kg. It is extremely easy to tap and accidentally change.
The body fat measurement seems to be fairly accurate so no complaints from me there, but that wasn't one of the "main" features I was looking for, it was just an added bonus.
Bottom line, I am very happy with the scale itself and will be using it for (hopefully) a long while.
But I hope the app gets an overhaul and becomes easier to figure out and use.
Top reviews from other countries
It will also remind you to weigh-in and the tracking and goal setting is perfect.
This scale is much better than the other “smart” scales, and is highly recommended.
1. The scale is somewhat smaller than the original. If you never had one before it probably wouldn't matter but when you have been stepping on this nearly every day for 4 years to the smaller one it does feel so small.
2. It's not as stable as the original. I step on it, it moves so I have to move it back and had to set the unit measure a few times as when it moves it changed the unit. I compared the underside, they both have grippy feet but this one just slides off my tiles. The original one had square feet. I'm not sure if they were larger feet, but the new one has round feet. It's just not as stable.
My original scales were $74 and these were on special but it's a bit disappointing in 4 years there's no real benefit for getting a newer model. At least I can take one to another location and leave it there so I did need another scale.
