Needs additional straps to securely attach to mirror.

Needs additional straps to securely attach to mirror.
I'm sure these mirrors will fit many different autos but they have a tendency to slip off on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The frames on the Jeeps side mirrors are not parallel and the forward side of the mirrors are convex and tapered. I solved this by adding key rings to the upper and lower arms of the extension mirrors and hooking a bungee to them. See the photos. With the bungee in place I don't have to ratchet the straps down nears as much as without the bungee. Just finished a 2700 mile trip. Mirrors are so solid they never moved. Very little vibration. I hit them several times while cleaning the windshield. My wife and I both ran into them by accident. Still never moved or needed adjustment. Based on what others have said I expect the straps to break in a couple of years. Replacement straps shouldn't cost as much as a new mirror. If the company would offer replacement parts, especially the straps, at a reasonable price I would give them 5 stars. One more note. Once I had them mounted, I applied some black RTV silicone to the four points on each mirror where the ratchet straps attach to the short straps. When I release the tension on the straps to remove them, everything comes off as one part. No readjustment to make when reinstalling. I can install both mirrors in less then four minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not much vibration, CONVEX shape, Good overall bang for the buck
Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2021
I just used these on a 1,200 mile trip picking up a small camper. I'm happy with their performance but here's a list of things I found important:

    - The mirrors are convex so the image they produce is smaller than the regular mirror on the drivers side and about the same as the one on the passenger side. This wasn't a problem for me - I liked the extra view but had to remind myself of the difference when backing up. I've attached an image to show the view they provide.

    - I have a Toyota 4Runner and the factory mirrors are tapered, getting thinner as you measure from inside to outside. These mirrors attached fine and held pretty well. They did gradually work their way towards the outer edge. It became noticeable after about 700 miles so I pulled over and reinstalled them. In the future I'm planning to place some silver duct tape on the factory mirror frame next to the inside strap clamp so as soon as the mirror starts to slip towards the outside there will be a gap between the tape and the mirror mount.

    - when installed I found one time the clamp that grabs the edge of the factory mirror wasn't properly gripping the frame even though when I had started it was properly in place. This means as I was adjusting the straps and tightening the ratchets it popped off. Just something to be aware of. Not a product flaw, just my inattention.

    - I expected them to work their way loose so I put a sturdy velcro strap around the base of my factory mirrors and then used zip ties to attach the mirrors to the strap. I figure if one did fall off I at least wouldn't loose it though I could end up dinging the paint on my 4Runner.....

    - My girlfirend is going to help me modify a velcro strap to secure the inner ratchet strap to the inside edge of the factory mirror frame. I'm thinking this may prevent the mirror creeping out and falling off.

To sum this up - these mirrors worked great and allowed me to see around a wider camper. They need to be checked regularly just like you would check the hitch and lites regularly. Simple enough and I don't think I'll ever loose one, but if I do I'd be happy to get another one of these to replace it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2013
I recently purchased 2 of these for use with my Xterra and I am very happy with them. I only have one trip under my belt using them but the last set of mirrors I purchased were returned before the trip, so...

I previously borrowed a family members Milenco Aero 2 towing mirror and I really liked those. Their no strap design was quite slick and worked well. That being said buying 2 of the Fit System 3891 towing mirrors is still less then just one of the Milenco mirrors.

    So whats the difference?

    Attachment Method:
Milenco wins. It is just so simple to clamp on and go. The Fit System ratchet straps worked just fine and held great on my Xterra. They do take a bit more time to get setup and adjusted.

    What you can see:
Tie. Both have a great view and are large enough to see whats going on behind you

    Vibration:
Fit Systems wins. There was hardly any vibration when towing. The Milenco mirrors weren't bad but the Fit Systems mirrors were noticeably more stable.

    Price:
    Fit Systems - Enough said...

Overall I think the Fit Systems mirrors are great and I am happy with my purchase.
