The lock is jacketed in a sturdy sleeve to avoid the pinchy-pinchy finger effect. The bolts on both ends are nice for security and for getting it on and off, and the thickness of the chain instills confidence and peace of mind that your bike will not be stolen.

Kryptonite will refund your locksmith bill AND replace your lock - that's why this review gets 5 stars instead of 4.
Chain:
Pros: Huge, but not too long. Heavy, but not too heavy. Intimidating enough that it will hopefully turn away any sorry sops with bolt cutters before they even try. Jacketed in a sturdy sleeve to avoid the pinchy-pinchy finger effect. Also, this chain is just downright attractive.
Cons: Ok - so it's a little heavier then what's comfortable for a small or unfit person to move around, but if you bike a lot you've gotta be fit (haha not me), right? And it can be a little too short if you're stuck locking up to a thick pole or column.
Lock:
Pros: Good sturdy lock. Never had mine picked.
Cons: If you don't listen to instructions and force the key, it WILL break, and it's INCREDIBLY hard to fish out, if not impossible - depends on how the key breaks. If the key resists, stick a screwdriver or something in the lock to re-align the tumblers and try again. Once more, DO NOT force the key! It will break!

Now enter the idea of it being a noose. One word: BRILLANT. This design esentially doubles the chainlength without doubling the weight, which is HUGE when these chains weigh as much as they do. This chain comes in at about 6 pounds, which is the highest reasonable weight I'll carry on my bike. Infact I wrap this chain around the top tube when I'm using it and unless I'm jumping my bike around obstacles, I dont notice it's there. Ok, so the noose design as you'd imagine turns this 2.25' (not 2.5' like the title says, not sure why they advertise that) and essentially gives you as much chain length from your bike to bike rack as a 4 foot chain would. A regular 4' chain would have to wrap in a circle and you'd connect both ends, so your bike could only really be 2' away from the rack. This chain ALSO gives you 2' between you and the rack with you looping or "noosing" it around the rack, thread it through ur back tire (always) and lock the chain to your seat tube or down tube. See the pic I uploaded. In the end, this chain gives me the best of both worlds. Lighter weight closer to the weaker locks, but the high security and difficulty cutting of the new york locks. Highly recommended and would absolutely buy the noose design again.

This chain is heavy, the lock is thick and the whole package is bulky. I bought it in conjunction with Kryptonite's 4' 10mm cable, so add that to the bulk. If you're carrying that weight in a trunk, pannier or God forbid in a backpack, it's going to kill you slowly. I purchased Ibera's medium frame bag recently and not only does the whole kit and caboodle fit in the bag (snugly) but it creates a weight distribution that actually made for a much better ride than without it. The extra weight (probably an extra 8 pounds on a 26 pound bike) sits just slightly in front of the balance point and directly below the seat made the bike feel much more grounded while not feeling sluggish. I was able to push the bike much harder without affecting its line and I didn't notice really any difference in the feel or overall responsiveness of the bike's performance or overall weight. I'll specify the MEDIUM size Ibera bag (which I'm also able to use with a sports bottle mounted under it and a bike pump mounted beside it) because the large bag will not only take up all of your frame space, but it will give the chain enough room to shift around as you ride, which you definitely do not want.
After days of looking at U-locks and measuring pro's and con's of different models, I finally landed on this chain and disc lock. It's perfect for what it is. It's versatile, it's heavy duty, it's simple. You're not going to beat this thing with simple tools.
HOWEVER- do your research on Kryptonite's ATPO program. I'm locking up a ~$500 bike on a suburban campus for evening classes. Kryptonite sells locks that are half the weight and 1/3 the hassle for $30-$40 less that rate 7/10, which means they qualify for a free year of ATPO (and $10 for an additional year) and will work with their frame mount. It sucks to have your bike stolen, but it also sucks to lug around 30% extra weight that you don't have to because the value of your bike would be covered by a lighter duty lock in the event it was defeated.
TL;DR
If you're not locking up $2,500+ worth of equipment, consider a lighter duty lock because 7/10 still qualify for ATPO. The extra $30 you're spending on their 9/10 and 10/10 locks literally buys 5 years of ATPO from them as long as you register in the first 30 days.
So, this lock and chain get 5 stars for form and performance, but 3 stars for value for money.
