Only time will tell but what a great thing to do!
Update: most of the ladybugs moved onto greener pastures by the 2nd day but I still spot one every now and again and that's ok. They're out there eating the bad guys.So much fun to release. I had some aphids on my Avocado tree I hope they devour them. Leafminers were attacking my Pomello and lemon, hopefully they like to eat those too.My order was stuck in NY for 4 days for some reason and I was worried they wouldn't survive from the cold but a lot of them did.Of course do your research before ordering. Instructions were non existent, did I miss something? First I misted the netting bag and put them in the fridge for a few hours to slow them down so I could pour them out and not have them all flying away.I had spread Tanglefoot goo around my fruit tree trunks that afternoon to keep ants off, they've been known to attack beneficial insects. At dusk mist your trees/plants with a spray bottle. I forgot but thankfully it was dewy last night. This morning I misted first thing to water the ladybugs who stuck around. I actually tied sheets of cheesecloth in the crucks of 6 fruit trees and poured the ladybugs onto the cheesecloth at dusk last night. I'm sure most of them would have fallen on the ground otherwise.I poured more on my 2 big trees, just a few on the little trees, there were enough beetles to do this. Some of the beetles were pretty lazy from the fridge chill and didn't want to come out of the bag but most began to climb around and up the tree limbs immediately. Quite a few are still on the trees this morning. Some are breeding and that's a good sign.Note: If they leave it's probably because you don't have enough food (pests) for them to eat or you didn't mist & release at night. If they're breeding and laying eggs they believe there is enough food for their larvae to survive.I have no problem 'losing' most of these bugs to my neighbors, they'll eat, lay eggs and populate the neighborhood and there's nothing wrong with that. I'd buy these again for that reason alone!
