There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Then the car began to have a random misfire from time to time and the misfire was very inconsistent so I was thinking it could be a faulty coil or fouled plug. The check engine light would come on every 50-100 miles and I would reset it with my code reader.
Then the clear sign of a blown head gasket of white smoke and low antifreeze show up. I have owned the car since new and honestly it is not worth the investment of a new head gasket as this is now my spare run around town beater car.
So knowing I was buying a BS product that no way would resolve a blown gasket or warped head I thought what the heck do I have to loose? Junk man or a magic potion.
Well a month later and about a 1,000 miles….no misfires, no check engine light, no white smoke and as crazy as it sounds the car has more power. I guess this magic potion worked…at least for now but i was very skeptical and say it is worth a shot of you have the early signs of a blown head gasket. How long will it last? Who know?
My first application wasn't successful. My car ran hot again after only a few days -- possibly because I attempted a 1000-mile drive to Yellowstone from Cali a few days after I used the product. Most sources I've researched say to *go easy* on your drives (don't rev it up too much) after using the product for at least a couple of weeks to allow it time to cure. So, after my second attempt, I took care to not drive my car too hard for the first two weeks or so.
Also noteworthy is, on my second attempt, the coolant was almost empty when I used the product (on my first attempt, the coolant had been full). This might also be a factor in the successful use of the product the second time around.
The takeaway from all this is:
To give Bar's the best chance at sealing your head gasket, (1) drain your coolant before using this product (despite the instructions saying it isn't necessary). There are coolant flushing kits such as the Prestone AFKIT0 Prestone Universal Flush and Fill Kit that you can use to remove the coolant. (2) Go easy on your drives for a least a couple of weeks after using the product.
There you have it. I hope this product works as well for you as it did for me. Good luck! (I will update this review periodically to report back on how Bar's is holding up.)
[Update 2012-12-17]
It's been 4 months after I used Bar's and that needle is holding rock steady where it should be. The coolant level, as far as I can tell, is the same as it was when I topped it off 4 months ago. I've already put 11,000 miles on it since I used "Bar's Leaks Head Gasket Fix." All signs point to this product working as a permanent fix as claimed. I'll update this review in a couple of months or when Bar's no longer works, whichever comes first. *fingers crossed*
[Update 2012-12-28]
Crud. My car overheated again yesterday when I was making a 250-mile drive. On this last trip, I had to rev up my engine to over 4000 rpm a good part of the trip (I usually shift gears between 2500-3000 rpm) but revving up the engine is hard to avoid when my underpowered (109 horsepower) car needs to climb some steep hills. It seems that the Bar's Leaks won't hold up on long, hard drives. I'm extremely disappointed, but still, I've had a good run with it the past 4-1/2 months. I'm going to give it another go. At 22 a pop, it's still better than shelling out over a thousand for a car that's reaching the end of its lifeline anyway. Product rating downgraded from 5-stars to 4 stars.

Just flush your heater core after if you lose or heat is not as good.
Gracias
heater core. Appeared to be leaking from a few head gasket leaks....nothing getting into the oil. Followed
instructions and topped up with product daily for a few days. Product should not freeze so always topped up
before going for a drive so it could mix with the coolant. Huge improvement....used less than 1/2 the bottle
and still checking but haven't added any for over a week.
